Funny you mention Halifax, I get the impression from the handful of Shaymen I've known that they don't hold us lot in high regard. I think they find the way a lot of Town fans consider them a sort of "second team" a bit patronising, which is understandable. The team I consider either our "main rival" or even just the most hated does change over time though. During the 90s Leeds barely registered as we never played them, I even had a bit of a soft spot* for them because they were West Yorkshire's only top-flight team, until my dad put me right. Right now my "most hated" top five list is (from worst to least-worst): Notts Forest Beeston Massive Citeh Brum Manningham are barely on my radar. *- in my defence, I was young and daft, and as we hadn't played them since I started watching I wasn't aware of the history. Yep. A mate of mine was from Elland but moved to Huddersfield when he'd already become a Shayman. I've been to a few of their games with him. We're generally referred to there as "The Poodles". They don't like us much, and although the mates he was with knew where my true allegiance lay, nobody else did and I kept quiet. Still, we're not Burnley. Bloody glad your Dad put you right regarding the Chestwankers. That comment almost made me vomit! Halifax fans are an odd lot... my French teacher in the last year of high school was a Halifax fan, at the time the original club had their brief return to the EFL... he also had a very unhealthy obsession with Vanessa Paradis, to the extent that he put a poster of her and a 7" copy of her 'Joe le Taxi' single up on the wall in his classroom. End of each term he'd wheel the TV in so we could watch a video of one of her films (in French with English subs), some of which were a bit racy to be shown to a bunch of 15-16 year olds.

From 1995 to 2006 I studied, then worked and lived in Bradford. I can confirm they were chippy fuckers, especially when they fluked their way up to the Premier League.
Even before that, there was the Geoffrey Richmond, Kevin Gray, Gordon Watson, Etienne Verveer etc issues. I hated them back then, far more than Leeds.
And Halifax Town fans do indeed have a massive chip on their shoulders about us, for some reason. Enormous inferiority complex, I think.

Well this thread has got a bit lost.
I thought it was about Nottingham Forest.
I'm hoping they go down and their ground gets burned down.
Couldn't give a rat's arse about Leeds or Bradford.

Just seen they have appointed Ross Wilson as Sporting Director.
What is their interview process?
“Have you been previously employed by Huddersfield Town?”

Being from Keighley & working all my working life in the Bradford area, I hate Bradford much more than Leeds. The season City got promoted to the Premiership I had people I'd worked with for a few years coming up to me going on about City, yet most of them I genuinely hadn't realised they were football fans as we'd never had a conversation about football before. Quite a few of my mates are, naturally, Bradford fans & we have banter but I can't think of any team I'd like Bradford to beat, with the possible recent exception of Forest. Yet growing up, none of my mates were City fans, they were mostly Burnley, Man Utd & Leeds, in that order, nobody supported City full stop in the 70s & early 80s, let alone in Keighley. Bradford fans in Keighley like to think Burnley are their rivals.

Sadford are an irrelevance to us and have been for over 20 years but I remember we played them a bit late 70’s when Bobby Campbell played up front for them and I recall one particular game when it all kicked off big time in that alley behind the old Cowshed. It would have been in the days when the Bradford ointment were operating (a cut price version of the leeds service crew) and our lot were climbing over the back of the Cowshed to join in the ruck, proper old fashioned bovver boy fighting. I was only 10/11 so watched from a distance and it was fucking brutal and then the old bill joined in. Mental! Outside of that, all of the above. Richmond had a lot to answer for charging Town fans more when we were in town as he knew we’d sell our end out, typical 4x2 thing to do, and that caused a lot of resentment before the whole Gordon Watson episode. So long since we played them in a meaningful game a whole generation of Town fans have grown up not knowing who they are although I miss those games, they’d never replace leeds as the team to hate but we had some memorable games against them and it could get spicy.

Funny how topics come around again... and again... and again. We've had this discussion before regarding who is our greatest rival... the team we really hate. From previous discussions on the subject it appears that most who watched in the '60s still hate Leeds and this extended into the '70s, even though we were no longer playing rivals by then. Perhaps, the Leeds City story was still remembered amongst supporters.
By the '80s and '90s the younger generation viewed Bradford as rivals, because of their rejuvenation and playing them more often.
I think the Notts Forest rivalry today is born out of the fact that their supporters are graceless c unts.

I think I might be in the minority who don’t see Forest as rivals at all. Not a local or derby game and I’ve never really thought any more about them than any other team.
Not come across many fans outside of that playoff day and most we met after the game were pretty normal / decent folk.
Had the referees done their job properly on the playoff we likely wouldn’t be taking about Forest!

I worked in Bradford for 18 years and lived there for 4 years and I still don't know more than about a dozen City fans. Theres a few in Wyke I know. I think south Bradford was Park Avenue territory historically. Plus they were only getting 3k in div 4 when I was a youth. Historically ALL of Bradford was Park Avenue territory, Shitty were an afterthought at best

My personal experience of forest fans on that day wasnt particularly negative at all either. We stayed in High Wycombe before and after the match and the forest fans there were fine. No problems at all. Guess others werent so lucky, but I dare say a few Reading fans had similar tales to tell about gloating delusion after the match in 2017. Some people dont handle winning very well. Id also say anyone who goes on any kind of social media for respectful, gracious dialogue with fans of another club is going to be very disappointed in the main. Too many people see it as a green light to be as c*ntish as they possibly can be.

Even if we'd won I'd still detest them. I never bought into the rivalry that was building up prior. The fireworks didn't bother me at all. The graceless manner of the behaviour of a significant proportion of their fans on the day and since is what turned me.

Always had a soft spot for them, as the likeable upstarts under Clough who were winning trophies and getting to cup finals at the expense of the usual suspects like Liverpool and Arsenal etc. Not now though 😂 Edit - the bit in bold was also my experience of them that day, even before the game. Big groups of them just mouthing off at any Town fans they saw.

One of my favourite off-pitch moments last season was the walk back to the centre after last seasons away win at Forest and tram back to the park and ride. The moaning about the result and how much better than us they were was off the chart. None of us had colours on so it wasn't for our benefit, just them talking amongst themselves. My and the kids spent the entire journey trying not to laugh. It was brilliant.

Forest fans on the play off day were without doubt the most aggressive, uncouth and confrontational that we encountered in many a year. I wish them and their club no goodwill at all

This side of Batley the rivalry between Town and Leeds is a bit more intense, i have a few Leeds fan mates and they've had lots of digs in the past, other side of Leeds i dont think many of them care that much, some will but apart from wanting to beat us when we play them most wont have any loathing of us. I moved to the other side of Leeds a couple of years ago, and that definitely tracks. The attitude towards us from Leeds fans I know around here isn't really one of a big rivalry. Not in the 'we're too big for you our rivals are Man United' kind of way, just fairly polite and interested, I think particularly when Corberan and Bielsa were both in charge. Nothing like the Leeds fans I know in Huddersfield.

I remember spending my pocket money on a key ring which had a small booklet attached and was made of leather. Inside was a pullout concertina of photos of all the Leeds team. I can still see the look of absolute disgust when I showed it to my dad. There... I feel much better getting that off my chest.

Ha, that reminds me of my cousin buying a beach towel thinking it was just a Yorkshire Rose. He didn't see the LUFC underneath because of the way it was folded in the plastic. He got some shit for that

As a kid I think it was Esso garage's that did a collective FA Cup winners medals. Which you got one when buying petrol. It was to commemorate Leeds winning it in 1972. With Leeds been a gold medal & the rest been silver. After doing swaps with mates I Got the full set which was sadly on the wall of my bedroom. Thankfully Town made the cut.

They acted like it was the first time anyone had ever shithoused an away win. Yes they were better than us, yes they deserved to win but football is a low scoring game and that exact game happens numerous times a season.
