It's a tough call because there's reasons for and against literally every candidate I've seen.
The heart says Wagner. Obviously. And a large part of my head says it too. He'd galvanise the place simply by standing on the touchline. But a large part of his success here came from ideas that were easily replicated. Ideas that many sides HAVE replicated.
The Chelsea/Belgium coach may be a fantastic coach, but being fantastic at one job within football doesn't necessarily mean that you can turn your hand to another. Jan Siewert was/is a great youth coach. Mick Wadsworth was too. And the late Glenn Roeder was by all accounts ridiculously good, but his record as the head honcho is underwhelming to say the least. Same goes for Carrick and others.
The lower division managers doing a great job at their clubs? May find that they're great at a lower level but can't do it higher up.
Neill Collins has done an outstanding job across the pond, but Jos Lukuhay was brilliant in Germany but clueless at Massive.
There are no perfectly good candidates, nor any obviously bad options in the frame. It's an interesting time.

Are you mental? The reason we are so financially fucked now is because he WAS backed, with plenty of money. He was just backed with the wrong players! Yes,and who bought those wrong players not Wagner. I could have found 2 better wingers playing within kirklees than those 2 for nowt Pritchard was Wagner's choice. I love him but he ain't infallible.

I can’t remember DATM producing such a largely reasoned debate re new coach speculation before. It’s interesting reading different points of view. One things for sure, we all want what is best for the club.

Dean has a type. Usually someone in their 40s that’s shown promise in a lower league. The big question is whether he’ll go back to the best of the bunch (kaiser Dave)

My heart says Wagner, but that's sentiment speaking and they say there's no room for it in football. If it is to be him I'll be happy of course.
But my head is intrigued by what Anthony Barry and Liam manning would offer as young upcoming coaches, however, one name that hasn't been mentioned that I would be interested in is Hannes wolf.
He seems to tick a lot of boxes that the club and us fans have. He started as a coach in reserve football, before becoming an age group manager, so he's proven he can work with the younger players. He then moved on to manage Stuttgart, winning the second division with them and getting them back into the bundesliga, so the working with senior players box has been ticked, with the added bonus of being able to get promoted. After leaving Stuttgart he went to Hamburg and didn't do terrible there before he moved abroad to genk, where the results weren't what either party would want. Since then he has had a spell as caretaker of Bayer Leverkusen but has been managing the German age group sides, he's currently the u20s manager and hasn't been there that long but the lure of club management would probably be of interest to him.
He has been linked with jobs over here, he was rumoured to be one of the final candidates for the Swansea job, but Martin got the job, I'd say Swansea's recent managerial appointments haven't been bad, what with cooper and potter prior to Martin, so there must be something about him, I think he was also linked with barnsley after Ishmael left but something broke down between him and the club leading to them appointing the Austrian guy. but if he was even speaking with barnsley with their transfer philosophy of 'moneyball' then he'd work with ours, although it could have been that that caused the breakdown, I'm not sure, but he's evidently keen on a move to England.
It feels like he'd be a perfect candidate for what town are after, he's 41 so still young, but has a bit of pedigree with him and experience which are big ticks for me.

Done a damned good job at Rovrum, and probably champing at the bit for a challenge at a higher profile club. Not on the face of it an exciting appointment, but could prove to be a shrewd one.

Pritchard was Wagner's choice. I love him but he ain't infallible. Having a good season at Sunderland There’s a player in Pritchard it just didn’t work out here - thrived at Norwich and Brentford and now doing well at Sunderland.

every man and his dog knows who we want as our next manager. who we get is another matter. warne wouldn't be a bad shout but I feel we need someone to galvanise everything at the club from the supporters to the players. there is one man that would do that but i'm not sure he would want to come back.

W seems to be the bookies favourite letter currently:
Wagner - not sure after LB interview on radio L666s Warne. - he better get out of Rotherham quick following last nights post match interview 😕 Wolf. - looks like a proper potential manager for some lucky club , someday Warnock - genuinely just one last role before genuinely retiring ……genuinely 😉
