Yeah im clinging onto the hope that those in the know here are being relatively cryptic and avoiding saying he has started in a head coach capacity.

The club certainly have some hubris.
Another coach with little to no experience.
No knowledge of the league.
It's either ego or finance ruling this decision.
I'm sure Fotheringham will be a cheap option.
Suppose if it goes tits up we can sack him before the World Cup 🤣

You would hope that we could attract someone who has taken a first job lower down the pyramid and excelled at it but we don’t seem to go for those kinds of appointments.
This is ultimately a big gamble and could go either way.
He has recent experience of being at a team near the foot of the table so let’s hope that helps him here.
Would be nice to know what kind of football to play. The quote about him talking down tactics is actually quite positive. Schofield and Corboran to some extent were very complex with what they wanted the players to do. Against Cardiff we played simple football and put square pegs in square holes, the result was a breath of fresh air.
We have decent players at this club. He needs to get them playing in their preferred position and play to their strengths. Do that and we will move up the table.

Things go badly with our latest rookie we'll need more than a game in hand to cling onto hope. |

Expect official announcement very soon most likely tomorrow. The club see him as a similar mould to Wagner when he was appointed in 2015. MF is very confident in his ability as a coach & man managing this group. He's certainly no shrinking violet & won't mince his words. He's a very hands on coach who is completely focussed on what happens on the training pitch & will not impose on the transfer dealings conducted by those above (suits Bromby perfectly) The Wagner deal was explored for a while but as everyone knows too many barriers for it to happen. Chicho & Harsley will be staying expect him to bring one possibly 2 Germans on his coaching team. For what it's worth I think he will keep us up but I think most on the shortlist would have anyway. I am assuming the similarities we see are approach, personality & style based as I see very few similarities when comparing David Wagner's 2015 CV with MF. Wagner had played at the highest level for a consistent period of time, played for his country and won the UEFA cup. He then had 4-5 years coaching experience at one of elite European clubs working under Klopp so they are miles apart on that front. Wagner did not play at the highest level for any consistent period of time. He played a total of 31 times in the Bundesliga. Thirty One. Most of his two hundred and odd appearances were at second tier and below. |

TBF if it was his ego he was thinking about surely he'd have gone for a safer option? He's already getting absolute sh*8te for this. ....& surely Finance has to be a consideration in any decision doesn't it? Maybe just maybe, he's gone for the person who is available who he feels will do the best job. He's made some sh*8te decisions in the past but also some very good ones. Hope this is one of the latter. |

Just let the guy get started and give him a chance to prove himself. He has a decent squad and few injuries at present so lets see how he does. It will take time and he is taking over under pressure after the poor run we have had so lets get behind him and the team.

It does seem like a risky decision given our position.
I really thought we were going to bring someone in with experience to steady the ship until the end of the season. The younger players need it.

Well, to say I’m underwhelmed is understatement of the year. There’s another thread running with close to 20 names on it, admittedly some are fanciful(!), but there were some decent options on there at least on paper and I’d wager better than this bloke none of us have ever heard of. Of course he’ll get some backing from the fans but his honeymoon period will be very short so he has to hit the ground running. First thing I said when we appointed Danny Schofield was cheap option and here we are again.

I am personally excited to see how this appointment turns out, as I am every time we get a new manager in. I don't know whether we are getting another master stroke like Wagner or Carlos or another Siewert or Schofield but the unpredictability is half the fun. I actually enjoy watching a team where we genuinely dont know from season to season whats going to happen.

I really thought we were going to bring someone in to steady the ship until the end of the season Lets hope it works out Completely agree, it’s a huge gamble. We’ve just had a promising young coach with no managerial experience who knew everything about the squad and the club believed in fall flat on his face and yet we’re trying again with someone external. On top of that, his recent contacts are all in a country we can no longer recruit from post Brexit. Praying it turns out to be a stroke of genius rather than what it appears. |
