Just had a look on that distance measuring website and it is only 238 yards to the back fence, 265 to the turnstiles, 280 to the roof and 320 to the pitch. No wonder they used to prohibit the use of driver on match days. If you rocked up with some standard balls rather than driving range balls you could pepper the stadium I definitely remember golf balls on the pitch during a game once.

I was too young to hit it that far. Remember hooking a few over the left fence though in to that top car park, still my miss to this day when the pressure is on

It was so popular that the company that operated it folded due to lack of sufficient cash. I thought it went bust due to a dispute with Mike Ashley. As they used the Golf Direct name? I thought it was because the lease expired and a new one was not offered because of the HDOne proposals for the site ?

Can't see anyone hitting sufficient distance with height enough to clear the fence at the far end, but then again I wasn't looking.

Switch it to satellite, click your start point and end point and it gives you the yardage. Definitely only 240 to the back fence. The signs were probably based on the adjustment factor for range balls which are 20-30% reduced distance www.freemaptools.com/measure-distance.htm

I think these were been thrown from the kilner bank hill. I seem to recall that you could hear them bouncing along the roof.

Does anyone remember when some idiot launched a fire work onto the pitch from over the kilner bank hill, if I recall correctly we’d not been in the stadium very long as the Panasonic stand (as it was known back then) wasn’t finished.

I remember the promotion season away at York and some dickhead threw a firework at Iain Dunn when we were attacking their goal. To this day the most stupid thing I've seen from a Town fan.

Correct.
You could hear them landing on and rolling across the roof before dropping onto the side of the pitch. Once everyone realised what was happening, a detachment of Keystone Cops went running up the Kilner Bank from the cinema end and the kids chucking the balls legged it!

We were down to 10 men, lost 3-0 and it was foggy/raining on the open terrace- the firework topped it off 👌😂

We absolutely were that day! IIRC a certain Paul Barnes was playing for them at the time?

I also seem to recall the guy who "did it" getting slapped about a bit for it - then I heard they got the wrong bloke and it was someone completely innocent.
Whether that was true and some guy got a smack for minding his own business I'm not sure.

I'm sure the ref was Mike Riley and it was the biggest game he'd got so far. Tbh I always thought the firework was thrown by a Chestie that had got in the Town end.

We absolutely were that day! IIRC a certain Paul Barnes was playing for them at the time? I think it was our first away defeat of the season. Warnock blamed himself for the loss, said he'd picked the wrong team. Imagine that. The board wouldn't stump up for us to sign Barnes later in the season; Warnock promised that we'd win the league if we could get him. My mate got married on November 5th in 1983. Town hadn't lost away then either and we were winning 1-0 at half-time at Brighton. When someone said the final score was 3-1, we refused to believe that we'd lost. I've been to 6 other weddings on Town matchdays and we won 5 of them. The only defeat was 3-2 at home to Bolton in 2000-01. In the 5 wins, we scored 23 goals! 5-0 at home to Halifax in 1980, when the club let us in to sit in the stand at 3-0; 2-1 at home to Wimbledon in 1984 (0-0 at half-time, saw the second half); 5-2 at home to Bradford in 1986 when my sister got married at lunchtime and I slipped away to see the whole game; 6-0 at Bury, a wedding at Newcastle racecourse and 5-1 at Cardiff, another wedding in the north-east. Honestly never listed them before, although I posted long ago about the coincidence of the big away wins. Saw the 6-0 defeat at Bury, of course.

Given KN stated in his diary that they've achieved everything they came to do..should we expect some positive news on the stadium soon?

I’m no expert, and of course there are arrangements that have been in place now for 25+ years, but I wouldn’t have thought that selling off what is partly a LA asset, is a simple thing to do?

Depends on how keen the council are to move it on. In this instance I'd imagine the sooner it's someone's else's problem the better for Kirklees. Just depends whether it gets political with Mr. Sheerman or the giants kick off.

I think any local MP might have a say if this came to pass, not just Barry S.
But I was thinking more of the covenants etc. that might have to be overcome. The world has changed considerably since this was done initially and I’m not sure if KMC would be able to simply offload without offering the opportunity to other interested parties? It might be that there’s preferential clauses for the co-owners?
I’d agree that KMC would probably be happy to get this off the balance sheet, particularly as it sounds more like a liability than an asset.
Hopefully more news on this in the weeks to come. I doubt it’ll be as quick as some people on here would like it to be though.

Poor Iain, but great gallows humour on a shit day. I remember the infamous Shrewsbury debacle, immortalised by the Warnock rant, as being an amusing day out too. One of those that’s just comically bad that it becomes a memorable away trip.

When he has stepped off the political gravy train it is highly unlikely he'll live anywhere near the stadium gym.

Nope, he has had one one the cushiest jobs in politics. 45 years knowing he will continue to be re-elected despite doing jack s**t for the town. Unless of course I've missed his contribution.
