Nope, he has had one one the cushiest jobs in politics. 45 years knowing he will continue to be re-elected despite doing jack s**t for the town. Unless of course I've missed his contribution. Has anyone ever seen the tosser stand up in the Commons and actually have anything to say ? Has he ever done anything for the Town ? Good riddance. He was on his feet the other day to be fair, but 45 years with one brief spell as a junior minister is the epitome of a vanilla career. I’m in the Huddersfield ward, was first eligible to vote in 1978 so have never really counted for my whole life, whoever I voted for the result would always be the same. If you count the old Huddersfield East ward as the successor to Sheerman’s fiefdom(he was MP for it 79-83), there have been a grand total of 2 different MPs since 1945 (seventy fucking nine years). I vaguely remember Curly Mallalieu being quite popular though.

They could put a Burton's dummy in a red tie and they would be elected round here.

I would imagine other more fervant Labour strongholds than Huddersfield have been turned over before in recent times.

Huddersfield ward has a student community and an asian community that often vote labour.
Sheerman unsuccessfully contested Taunton before moving 240 miles away to our safe seat.

Why would anyone vote for the corrupt bastards in power now. Used to make me laugh as I passed the Con club in our village, towards the end of the lockdowns, a sign supporting the NHS in the window next to a poster of the hypocrite Jason McCunntney, just as he was voting against giving nurses a pay rise.

McCartney lost Colne Valley to Thelma Walker in the Corbyn 2017 GE, but won it back in the Brexit 2019 GE. He blocked me quite early on even though I was never abusive, just asking questions and querying his answers. So for 4 years I've been disenfranchised with no MP to contact. He's a slimey toad and I'm really surpised so many voted for this chancer but he didn't have a majority of the votes...48%, as the other parties split the opposition vote and Labour were 5,000 short. I expect him to be kicked out this year.

A lovely man...and born in 1908, same year as Town !

I used to live in Honley - where McCartney lives. You'd often see him around and he's open to talking to the public
I also emailed him regarding the whole mess a few years ago with foreign travel - Red, Amber, Green chaos - and he replied
There are counsellors who are too busy to reply to constituents so fair play to McCartney for making the effort
He also put his head above the parapet saying it was untenable when Cummins went to Barnard Castle - when the rest of the career politicians backed Cummins as they saw the risks in crossing him. He also voted against the Tory line on the Marcus Rashford free school meals. He was very vocal about the Holme Valley being in special measures as well
He also talks up the area in a way the other 3 Kirklees MPs have failed to do (one Tory, two Labour)
I doubt he'll survive the next GE but in my experience he's been a decent MP

I get a vote again this year for the first time in 7 years ("ex-pat and all that), and had he worn a rosette of any other colour I would have voted for him based on that. Unfortunately for him, that act doesn't counter my desire to get rid of the current government... having said that, I suspect this particular seat will be very close and could go either way.

He voted for the law to allow more housing on green belt land before he lost the election, as the last one was approaching he joined the committee to stop houses being built on Netherton Moor. They were only allowed because of the act he'd voted for. When I pointed this out I was told not to make it political 🙄. He got voted back in, wasn't seen at another meeting and the houses are now being built. He voted against pay rises for the nurses, he voted to allow shit to enter the waterways. He took £5,000 from 2 Russians, denied it, then gave the money to the Colne Valley Con's when it was proved. He turned up at the nursery where my sister worked, was as miserable as sin until the Examiner photographer turned up. He then became the life and soul if the party until the journos left.

Remember before the last election where he refused to turn up to a Q&A unless it was Tory voters only.

Well if we’re going to keep this politically neutral we need to ask for the roofs to be painted red to offset all those blue seats….

I’m not defending the council here, but maybe what was offered wasn’t in the best interests long term?
If it has fallen down at this stage then it’s surely just situation normal, unless KN decides to try strong arm the council into some sort of deal?
