This sounds plausible given Sheerman's tweets - clearly we're trying to manoeuvre some sort of deal here that presumably isn't 'in the interests' of the council, and he's fretting. Why would he be fretting? Sheerman hasn't got anything to do with the council. Clearly his tweet over the weekend was a touch irritable - whether it's a personal view or a professional view

I know the Council gets a lot of stick, often warranted. But I think that’s in part due to what you might experience in the town centre most week days. Retail is dying on its arse everywhere, much smaller places than Huddersfield, which has a lot of retail space to fill anyway.
But if they could get more events at the stadium then they are capable of organising events to support those. Plenty of street traders would be attracted by a few thousand footfall going to watch a concert there in the months of the year where we get the better weather and longer daylight. (not just BST before some wisecracks say that’s what I’m describing)
Kirklees is fighting a losing battle, but as a Town we have so much to be proud of. If they could do something with a small section of the land where the old power station was, then they could actually make the walk from St George’s Sq down to the stadium quite pleasant.
It would be nice to see some life put back into the Town, but it’ll take a lot of effort and cooperation.

I'm hoping he doesn't buy it. Or anyone else for that matter. I think people ought to be careful what they wish for. At the moment, we are not solely responsible for the massive liabilities. The ground never makes any money. If the club or Nagle gets hold of it, who's going to deal with those liabilities, which are in the millions? He's going to have to sell an awful lot of fancy pies and Magic Rock beer to raise the millions of pounds a year it's losing, and has always lost. A agree, I should have put the if in capitals or something. While I broadly agree it shouldn't be in an individual's hands I'm hoping (and it is only hope) that KN is true to his word about development in and around the local area. Although when you've got people from DATM (mention no names) constantly tweeting the guy abuse I don't think it'd take much for all his plans to be withdrawn. Some people are more liable to take their bat and ball home rather than ride the abuse, I just hope KN isn't one of those types. Like I say it's all hope and what do they say about hope killing you I just don't trust him, I'm afraid. We know very little about him, he's been in charge for three months and already some of the fans are happy for him to have total control of our ground, which is something that even the likes of Terry Fisher, David Taylor, Ken Davy, Dean Hoyle and Phil Hodgkinson never came close to. We ought to be incredibly cautious before making such a decision.

There's been talk of developing the surrounding land for 30 years and no-one has ever done it. Why would Nagle be any different? It's just fantasy land, as usual. I'd much rather he put his money where his mouth is where the team is concerned first. I don't trust him and don't trust anybody with full control of the ground. It works as it is and we are protected from getting kicked out of it as there's three shareholders. If Nagle gets hold of it and has 100% ownership he can basically do what he wants with it. I don't think he should be afforded that power. I agree we should be investing in the team but I think it is quite small minded to assume that just because others have failed before him he won't be able to make a success of developing the land, willing to give him a chance anyways Small-minded? Or just going by history? That ground has been there almost 30 years and nothing has ever been done.

Without the Council's input there would be no stadium. The old ground and the land it stood on was sold for about £4m and the rest of the funding came primarily from grants - Sport England, the Lottery, etc, with the Council and the football club funding a couple of million shortfall. My understanding about the grants is that in the event of a sale to a private buyer, they would be required to be repaid, but, of course, more than a quarter of a century has passed. It may work like it did at Woodfield Park - given in trust to Huddersfield police in 1922 but sold by it to a private individual a decade ago. And untouched since, apart from someone burning down the clubhouse and a big gate being put at the entrance.

I guess the idea is that you will have a successful billionaire entrepreneur and his team running it who are experienced in such things albeit across the pond. I'm guessing there aren't many highly motivated and driven entrepreneurs on the current board of KSDL. Hopefully a private company will make a much better go of it. There needs to be protection for both town and giants though, hopefully the deal can be structured to protect the clubs now and in the future. There seems to be a lot of scope with the surrounding land, I'm sure if it's done right it could thrive. Let's face it there's not much competition in Huddersfield, where else would you go to spend your money except to another nearby town or city! There's been talk of developing the surrounding land for 30 years and no-one has ever done it. Why would Nagle be any different? It's just fantasy land, as usual. I don't think he should be afforded that power. I agree it needs to be handled carefully and I want to see investment in the team first. I'd also like to hear exactly what the plans are for investment because what I've heard so far doesn't make any sense and is contradictory. Regarding development though just because it's never happened in the past doesn't mean it wouldn't work. I'd say KN is exactly the type of person that could make it work. What I don't want is a L1 or L2 football club surrounded by a nice profitable commercial asset. The worry is that KN is more motivated by the possibilities around the property asset than creating a successful football team.

You say leave the stadium as it is because it has been fine for the last 30 years, so how do you come to that conclusion? ( losing money hand over fist) and has done for most of towns tenature. ‘Oh’ and by the way other clubs own their stadiums, get full benefit of income streams etc, that enable them to invest in other areas like their team.

Facts are: The stadium is badly in need of repair and the council are too skint to pay for it. The club doesn't make enough money to sustain the kind of players and wages people want here so it has to identify alternative revenue sources. If we own the stadium and surrounding land then all proceeds go direct to the club. I have seen absolutely nothing to make me doubt KN at all.

Aside from buying the club when it was on its arse, providing a constant presence in light of a previous establishment that hid in the shadows, investing in the infrastructure of the club, looking at bringing back the academy? Just because we didn't sign a 5 million quid striker and swopped our manager a couple of months earlier than expected, the knives are out. You can deny it all you want but it's blatantly obvious. Instead of spreading your negativity and overreacting why don't you sit tight and let everything unfold. We were seconds away from liquidation in the early naughties, we have been through much worse times. Enjoy the ride.

Okay Remaining cautious over a new owner isn't "spreading negativity". Trust has to be earned and I'm waiting to see what he's like before I start giving him trust. He hasn't actually done anything yet? The only people overreacting are the people jumping on me because I dare to share a different opinion and choose to wait and see what he does before putting him on a pedestal. I do wish people like you would stop twisting every single fucking thing I say. I WANT NAGLE TO DO WELL BECAUSE IF NAGLE DOES WELL THAT MEANS HUDDERSFIELD TOWN ARE DOING WELL. NEIL WARNOCK HAS GONE AND DARREN MOORE IS THE MANAGER. UNLIKE SOME I'M NOT CALLING FOR HIS HEAD. I'M WAITING FOR NAGLE TO ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING BEFORE I START HERO-WORSHIPPING HIM.

Having seen what's happened with other clubs in the last few years regarding their stadiums being owned by someone holding them to ransom, or even evicting clubs, I'm being cautious. Stop putting words in my mouth, stop telling me what I'm thinking and actually read what I've said. That's the thing on here, if you don't follow the majority everyone just wants to have a go at you without actually reading what you're saying.

It's all well and good everyone saying that the club should run it, how do they propose the club covers the liabilities each year? That stadium has never made any money, what's going to change now? And that's it If things people enjoy are on their doorstep and of equal or greater quality then why would they travel especially with the way trains and fuel prices are Why can't huddersfield become a venue/place others want to travel to. Money goes out of the towns economy as its not comparable to even towns like Halifax,Wakefield Barnsley who have upped their game If nagle or whoever wants to help move this town forward surely its a good thing. In relation to the stadium if he does get it The Americans are shit hot at advertising sponsorship bigging it up etc so I think it will automatically start to get more revenue than it ever has.

While I'm on your side in this argument, generally, has it worked fine for 30 years. KDSL are going bust and the stadium needs millions spending on it 🤷 When has that stadium ever made any money? It made £229k profit from the Green Day gig last year. A relatively small amount in the grand scheme of things, but we need more of these sort of things.
