Thats really not what the word 'man' is being used for at all. Exactly. It's being used to denote who was the best PLAYER on the day. Hence PLAYER of the match. Player of the match = the same term used whether it's the men's game or the women's. To equate it with those who will not only refuse to listen to any opinion that differs from their own or makes them uncomfortable - but will attempt to stop anyone else listening to said opinion by being as obnoxious as possible seems a bit of a stretch! "Man of the match" trips off the tongue a lot easier because that's what most (if not all) of us are most used to saying, but in terms of accuracy the new word is better. Its not more accurate at all. Its less accurate! 'Person' includes a lot of people who arent even playing! You might aswell call it 'Living being of the match' so you can widen it to sea lions.. none of them are playing either!

Football commentary had always had an element of parody. If it gets folk talking or even better, arguing, they've won. Job done.
Not a problem with either Man of the Match or Player of the Match or Thing of the Match but when they start asking each other for their MVP I shall be reaching for the mute button.
'Set plays' instead of 'set pieces' already grinds my gears.

The change seems to be causing offence to some. Poor little snowflakes that need to hear the word man rather than player Dont be silly. Its been changed so presumably 'progressive' flowers like you dont get upset about the word 'man' being used.. you know, to describe a man. Like that is somehow offensive. Why does it have to take into account the women's game? It isn't the women's game! There arent any women playing! It is a classic example of moronic woke idiocy. If it winds up the gammon, it'll do for me 🤣

Apologies, I'm terrible for taking things off-track.
Don't want to take anything away from Kasumu and his Living Being of the Match performance on Saturday.

Wow! I'm not upset about anything, you clearly are. It's up to them what they say, not me. And do you know what, it's not up to you either. I take it you will be demanding they rename the Hargreaves Memorial Player of the Year into something more testosterone fuelled. You were upset enough to come into this calling people names. Sort of thing an upset person does. It is up to them what they call it on their TV channel. And its up to me to think of that what I like. Let's re-read. You: woke stupidity(aimed generally) Me: snowflakes(aimed generally) You: progressive flower (aimed at me) You say I'm name calling. Laughable.

The award is not for how good a man, how good a person or how good a sea lion you are. It's for how good a PLAYER you were in THE MATCH = Player of The Match.

Reckon we should have a Twot of the Match.
Well done Kasumu for getting MOTM & not the former that has been won & awarded by me to a steward involved in towel gate.
& if anyone finds twot offensive please read it as twit.

Man of the match? Player of the match?
Who really gives a fuck? Anyone getting worked up over these terms needs to get a sense of perspective.

Person of the match include officials?
Man of the Match doesn't offend, but I've got used to 'Player of the Match' as both my kids play on mixed teams. Going forward that's likely to be the universal name in football.

Also mustn't understand the definition of progressive.

No debate for me (and anyone else who paid attention) David Kasumu was unequivocally MotM at the weekend. I've noticed Sky Sports or was it BT, I dunno, have changed it to 'Player of the Match' now. Sky sports do. Just incase it offends any of the women who played presumably. Obsessive, woke stupidity at its finest. A similar thing has happened in cricket. You don't have a batsman any more, they are now referred to as a "batter". Personally I quite like "batperson"!

And all the players are men.. and like you say it trips off the tongue much better.. which will be why its always been that. Player of the match isn't 'wrong'.. the reasons for changing it are whats wrong IMO. this absurd desire to make everything gender neutral, even things like this, which are obviously male and male only.

Going forward that's likely to be the universal name in football. Lets not include the officials in this, they already think they are more important that anyone else as it is. They obviously are more important than fair play, and too arrogant to explain their weird decisions. Can you imagine how pompous they will be if they got the "Person of the match" award.

Frankly I'm amazed that anyone living in this country in 2022 has tthe energy to give a flying fuck whether it's "Man of the match", "Player of the match" or any other innocuously named variant of the award. The mind boggles.
