I bet those England supporters at the game will just be glad to get to the pub…

Fuck Southgate. Talentless, tactically inept. Our at the round of 16, at least Southgate will be gone then.

Fucking criminal that Foden didn't play a second. If I was him I'd be sticking two fingers up and going home

When the dust settles, what this means on Tues is that Wales and the USA know they have to win their games to stand any chance.
Let’s hope Southgate doesn’t set up on the basis of a draw meaning we’re through.
On to Tuesday then, at least there’s plenty of interest in both games.

Soon be time for Gareth to come out and say how well USA pressed us, and how well organised they were. We take the positives and move on. Still got things to work on. Clean sheet though. Etc etc blah blah blah. He says we controlled the game. Must have watched a different match.

Gareth says our centre backs were great against the press. Ffs. I’ve joked they had a massive bet on the number of times they could pass it to each other.

Good job we played Iran when they were probably over awed. I think Iran targetted Wales and the USA for points, as we saw today. They sat off us and were down and out before they could change things, plus England get better after they are 2 or 3 up..

England 55% possession , 45% of which was Maguire and Stones passing it to each other. Poor tonight, no tempo or creativity, boring safety first football. Agree regards Foden, first name on the sheet for me.

So a winner in the USA v Iran game means the only way England fail to qualify is if Wales win by 4 or more goals (as we've scored 6 goals compared to their 1). At least I think I'm right in that. Failing to qualify wouldn't be the worst thing in the world......would it? I mean let's be honest, we have literally 0% chance of winning this tournament, and everyone is fed up of England being boring, dull and negative, and I doubt people want to waste much more time being bored by England.

Fucking criminal that Foden didn't play a second. If I was him I'd be sticking two fingers up and going home I find it incredible he doesn't start, nevermind not get on. He doesn't look anywhere near out of place in a side featuring unbelievable players like DeBruyne, Silva, Haaland yet can't get in the England team.

Play Foden. He'd get in any other side in the world who wasn't managed by the world's most defensive manager.

What I struggle to understand is how USA found so much space and we found virtually none. They moved the ball better, tackled better and they were on the front foot nearly the entire game. I thought after the Iran game we were going to see a more vibrant England. Just back to the same old stale stuff. With so many good players it does seem strange that we can look so clueless.

They have been coached to press really well. You can argue whether its right or wrong but we don't play that way under Southgate. It is a more measured approach. I'd like to see us play more of a high intensity pressing style as a lot of our players do so for their club sides

Southgate reminds me of one of your Dads mates who owns a Ferrari but drives it at 60mph in the middle lane of a motorway.

Thats organisation in a nutshell, you have to be there when this happens, you have to be here when this happens. It enables you to attack as a 3 or a 4 and defend earlier and deeper in open play. England had a 3 man move 3 times in the game and huge gaps behind the bloke going to engage the ball all over the pitch. Workrate and desire was missing, we did not want to match them.

Southgate reminds me of one of your Dads mates who owns a Ferrari but drives it at 60mph in the middle lane of a motorway. Are you sure he’d even venture as far as the middle lane? Might take an hour to leave the hard shoulder… I think I’m going to try and watch some highlights of the previous competitions to see how we managed to reach the SF and a final. I know it’s a dissonance thing and other things were happening in our lives back then, but we don’t seem to have had anything like the edge of the seat stuff we saw in 1990. That Platt goal v Belgium was marvellous. Football is very homogenised nowadays.

Good to see England get the same toys out of pram reaction Town get if they dont win a game! Yeah we didnt play at all well tonight. Lots of performances WAY below what the player is capable of. But the USA arent a bunch of mugs, theyre a decent side. As lots of other 'fancied' sides are finding out , if youre not at your best, then you will struggle in games against these so called minor nations... Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Holland, Portrugal.... Brazil were toiling for most of the game against Serbia. Anyone would think were on the plane home! Weve all but qualified after 2 games and a win against Wales will guarantee top spot in the group. What have england done in recent decades to deserve the expectation we will win every game with ease like a lot seem to think we should??

Southgate's post match comments appear to show he was watching a different game entirely.
Bizarre.

Nobody I know expected mondays result and most expected a tough game tonight. Being outrun and outplayed wasnt expected though. I did and do expect more desire and more attacking purpose from England. Its dissapointing not terminal but it does show a continuing lack of consistency in performance and graft that trips us up eventually.
