Thought the ref was just going to play until Argentina knicked one. They might have needed to switch the floodlights on for that...

Remove all the background and that was what it should be, a football match and had all the twists we love it for.
Id be ok watching a talented Argentina win by a few playing well, but its always there that, that can happen.

I certainly wouldn't rule out Argentina just yet, they lost because they thought they had won it at half time, then momentum took over for the Saudis. Argentina were inches away on 2 occasions in the first half from putting the game to bed. They won't make the same mistake of coasting again.

Tough group that one with Mexico and Poland. Could be curtains for the argies.
This is Messi's last chance to really stand out at a World Cup which IMO he's never done,. despite laughably being awarded the player of the tournament in Brazil '14.

He's got a job on his hands, he was poor for that 90 by his standards and should be dragging his team by the scruff of the neck in them situations.

What’s the point of letting him run through from the halfway line (just over), scoring a good goal and then flagging offside? Totally pointless and ridiculous.

One of the reasons id always put Ronaldo ahead of him as a player. Ronaldo has carried Portugal in world cups and euros.. to success too. Messi has always been pretty average at best, never getting close to his club form.

See the Argies struggling with that stiff breeze today, the number of times they fell over...and over and over...

He's the oddball compared to a lot of S American players in that he gets on with the game & doesn't writhe around for 2 mins after every foul. Although it looks like his flame is flickering far sooner than Ronaldo's did, even though there's only a couple of years between them. Had to have a look at the comparative records, given you mention Ronaldo has carried Portugal to success. They won the Euros in 2016 but that's about it. I wouldn't say that the Copa America has the same level of competition, but Argentina won that last year. If anything, it proves that any sort of reliance on your true superstar player makes life difficult, definitely the sum of the parts that wins success at international level.

Refereeing teams taking inspiration from Moss and Tierney, it seems.

Commentator and expert watch a replay 4 times of a possible pen for Denmark. They both miss the bleeding obvious foul by a Danish player before the handball, they then berate var? Ffs..

They then go to an ex ref and he explains why it wasnt handball? It wasnt fucking handball because the fucking foul before it made it fucking moot??? They gave a fucking foul to tunisia, WHY, instead of a corner??? Because there was a fucking foul seen by VAR when asked to look at a handball that came AFTER the obvious foul? Ffs..

The Argentina Saudi game is what i love about the world cup, sure you sometimes get the big guns coasting to victories but stuff like this makes the competition, unfancied, backs to the wall, heroic defending, fantastic winning goal, reminded me of town versus a certain team from London not long ago.

A certain amount of allowed physicality, which I approve of highly, helped the Saudi team. Its a competetive game after all..?

The Argies made a reet mess-i of that. Thirty-odd matches unbeaten, then fall to the head-choppers.

Both the Polish and Mexicans constantly wanting to play 60 yard worldy passes that amount to nothing.

Lineker now saying the ref stuck with his on field decision in the denmark/tunisia game? The var saw a fucking foul just before the handball so instead of a fucking corner, which was the result of the game continuing after the ref played on after the handball, it ended up being a free kick to Tunisia? Var and the ref gave Tunisia a free kick, the handball was never in question.
