A lot of managers in recent times have come to a sticky end at the Toffees...... Problem was he didn't have a clear plan, just tried to fudge his way through. I thought he would be mint at Everton.

So Big Sam or Sean Dyche? Seen a post saying Jack Duckworth, but there's no way he'd keep them up

Appointed by both Chelsea and Everton despite having no credentials as a manager. Next stop for him will be some lucrative job abroad in a league where his name will matter more than his ability. He did take Derby to a play off final didnt he? So some credentials really. I thought he did pretty well initially at Chelsea after they'd just sold their best player in hazard and were under a transfer embargo. Think if hes going to manage in the PL again, he'll have to get his team promoted into it. On your reckoning Carlos and Wagner should be in charge at citeh and arsenal. Incredible that clubs the size of Chelsea and Everton give him a job. Funny though. They’ve spunked 500m since the current bloke took charge in 2016. 500m!!!!!

Proof if ever it were needed that you can buy mediocrity and keep buying it. Takes a very special recruitment team to spend half a billion in 6 years and not get anything like close to winning anything..

According to the free Metro paper (yes I know) it's £716 million since he took over, going through 8 managers too. Insane

Is that £716m the net figure? because presumably they've had some big incomings too like for Richarlson?
If the net figure is £500m then crazy as that is, is it even unusual over 7/8 years in the PL ? Suppose what would be unusual is spending that kind of money and not making any progress at all..going backwards if anything.

Might be interesting to see the money 'chucked totally away' from paying off managers and coaching staff? Cant sell them on, even for a loss.

The list of managers is more laughable than the list of players. They really are a total shit show. Spending something like 500m on the new stadium as well.

The Monday Night Club on BBC 5 live had an informed and intelligent debate on the situation at Goodison.
To precis; It referred to a lack of a long term coherent plan and losing sight of your identity.
Hmmmmm.....now I wonder, in relative terms, that could apply to?
What it does show is it's easy to waste money when you lose focus.

He wasn't good enough for Burnley and they are now flying without him. Seems like he's got the job over Bielsa though who didn't want the job until summer. I wonder if the supporters are relieved or underwhelmed?

I wonder if the supporters are relieved or underwhelmed? Dyche that's worked miracles on a shoestring over Bielsa, that was taking the neighbours down at an alarming (but brilliant) rate combining record breaking amounts of goals let in and red and yellow cards 🤔

I wonder if the supporters are relieved or underwhelmed? I think Dyche should guarantee them Premier league survival, so it will be relief from that point of view. And no doubt many will be underwhelmed too.

Interesting as he plays a very specific way which requires players who are able to fit into his system. When I look at the Everton squad, they have very few of those kind of players. Although it looks like a solid appointment from the outside, it could actually be a disaster.

Gordon will be a substantial loss to them too. But another 40m in the coffers though. He’s very overrated. Don’t think he has contributed much over the last few seasons (not many have) and they won’t miss him. Dyche has the likes of Keane, Tarkowski and McNeil from his Burnley days. If he can make them solid at the back and Calvert-Lewin gets fit then they will stay up.

He's looked alright when I've seen him. Quick, lively, direct. Haven't seen him in months though, might have even been last season. Agree with you regarding the ex-Burnley players. He'll make them hard to beat.

Many of them still think they should be a top 6 club. No one has a devine right to be a top 4,6,10 club at all, however, overall and everything considered, they should be a top 10 club. But maybe I’m biased as I’ve always liked them, from the 80’s when they were very, very good.

Speaking to a couple of contractors at work who are big Toffee’s fans. They have sort of accepted that for a while now they have been surviving by the skin in their teeth, and perhaps finally dropping down to the Championship would allow them to visit new grounds, to have a reset, get back into a habit of winning and if they could keep a decent nucleus of the current squad, go straight back up taking with them a winning mentality, and get off to a winning start in their new home. On the other hand, they fear that once down, it may take years to get back up. Nice new ground and stuck in the Championship.

I was just thinking of teams who are bigger/better.. Bigger.Liverpool Arsenal Man City Man Utd Spurs Newcastle Chelsea Better (currently)Brighton Brentford Fulham Villa Palace Whereas, taking away the new money I'd have Everton and Villa as bigger than City, Spurs, Newcastle and Chelsea. For me, growing up, the big 5 were Liverpool, Utd, Arsenal, Everton and Villa. City were perennial bridesmaids, Spurs were a bottom half team with an occasional cup run, Newcastle last trophy was 6 months before I was born and Chelsea were yo-yo'ing between Division 1 & 2.

We were born in the same year, 1969, so I remember sticking Asa Hartford stickers in my Panini album too.
You could argue that Liverpool's fans at Heysel cost them a European trophy.
But this is 2023 amigo, not a top 10 club anymore. Not currently.
