If he'd have scored 10 in 20, as a 19 y/o, his first senior football, in a mid-table team, he wouldn't be coming here.....

Can't see the sense in that one, myself. If we're going to develop a kid then we have Harratt, Hudlin, Phillips & Simpson still on the books. Fair enough if he'd just smashed it in Lg2 but 1 goal every 7 games at that level doesn't strike me as somebody ready to be the main striker at a 2nd tier club.

Hudlin won’t make it to L2, and that’s based on seeing him three or four times.

As a potential striker signing that's about as underwhelming as it gets!! Hope we're aiming a bit higher than that. Sounds like he still has plenty of development to do at L1 and L2 level before seeing if he's ready for champ football. The new coach was at Newport I believe so might be a fan although its a big step up from being mediocre at L2 level to coming to the champ as a regular starter. Utd won't be wanting him to warm the bench presumably. 

Speaking of strikers I'd forgotten about Tyreece until NW mentioned him in his press conference! Could be a real asset and interesting to note that NW said he was nowhere near fit enough, same with REG.

I saw McNeill play for Newport County at home to Sutton United back in February (I had to look it up as I couldn’t remember him, but now I can). Sutton won 2-0. McNeill played wide on the left, he got over a couple of decent crosses, but I also remember him getting wound up by the Sutton fans for feigning injury and messing up a throw in.

Maybe not, but that still leaves Simpson and Harratt.

My main point though is that I can't see the sense in bringing in a striker that isn't ready to be a first team regular at this level. If we'd been relegated you might take a chance on the guy hitting the ground running but jumping up 2 levels and expecting the same makes little sense to me.

A new striker, Ward or Rhodes as backup and youngsters/B-Teamers pushing to stake a claim.

Permanent signing I could see the argument for (assuming that we feel he has more potential than we have here - I have no opinion either way on that). Maybe he'll be great in 3 year's time. Wouldn't address the immediate need though.

Loan would be baffling.

The reason I posted what I did was. I was at the gym (won't say which one) and I'd seen the lad being put through his paces. Then having his picture taken. So I went onto the Gyms insta page and it came up with who it was.

It’s not though, is it. A striker who is contracted to Newport, aged 35, with 0 goals would be worse, wouldn’t it. As it happens, it’s a youngster that’s highly rated.

I really hope not, that’s exactly the type of player we need to avoid signing. We’ve got enough old, slow strikers who were last effective over 7 years ago
