Surprised at that as he's only coming up to 33 which seems quite young to retire these days, but arguably the best central midfielder I've seen play for Town in my lifetime

Is it to do with a back injury I read the other day, shame though as he's a cracking footballer

Such a consistently great player for us. Found passes you'd struggle to see from the sky.

Probably the best player I’ve ever seen at Town.

Good luck for the future Aaron, comfortably the best player I’ve seen play for us, and a top bloke as well. Thanks for the memories.

We'll do well to ever have a CM as good again.

Wow. Thought it sounded like he was still playing really well up there.
What a great player. Certainly for me the best since 1977 when I started watching and also the catalyst for what happened on the pitch in 16/17

Best player I’ve seen in a town shirt and the most enjoyable to watch since Gorrë. Great memories and that goal at Leeds will always be remembered.

For some reason the game that sticks in my head is 16/17 when we beat Brighton at home. I have it in my head that he absolutely ran the show.
Another player to add to the "always be welcome back pile".

Dont know whether this is back injury related or not, but my take would be he went there to play for the Aussie guy, he's now gone, Mooy is a real family man, he's made his dough and played in two World Cups, he's content with his lot so happy to quit and spend time with his family.
As for the comment on Coaching job at Town.... not a kangaroo in hells chance!

no offence to him but can't think of a less likely coach! always came across very shy and quiet, completely at odds with his on pitch personality

What a season to go out as well. His performances at the World Cup reminded me, and showed the world, how good he is. I know a few Celtic fans as well and they absolutely adored him, he took a bit to warm up for them but absolutely ran the show once he did.

Another player to add to the "always be welcome back pile". I left that game genuinely thinking to myself “wow, that was the best performance I’ve EVER seen from Town”. That is the reason why that Brighton game should stick in the memory of everyone fortunate enough to have been there. It was magnificent, no other word for it. As for Aaron Mooy. What I would give to have seen him play alongside the other true greats of Jimmy Nicholson and Frank Worthington.

Sad news. Never a player to rely on pace so expected him to play for years. So graceful on the ball; an unbelievable ability to get out of tight spaces or play a ball through the eye of a needle. But also decent at the defensive side of the game. Those strikes against Leeds away and Newcastle at home will live long in the memory. Coolness personified in the Reading play off pens. Up there with Stewy as one of my all time faves. A late developer by all accounts but hopefully will have made his millions in china and be able to enjoy a comfortable retirement.

Gutting news.
It was a pleasure to watch him play every week. Without doubt the best player I've ever seen in a town shirt.
Best of luck with your next chapter, Aaron.

Class footballer. Didn't have any pace really but made up for that with a good footballing brain.

His best game for me was at home to Forest on boxing day 2016. Virtuoso display, dominant in all areas, Forest threw everything at him, yet everything we did still went through him! There was a 'how's he managed that?' moment every 5 minutes

No, just some other tin-pot outfit on the Sunday, beat them 2-1.

Never forget Brentford at home first game of that season, he had 3 players crowded around him and made them look complete amateurs. At that point I knew we had somebody special. The best player I have ever seen at Town. Enjoy retirement Aaron.

Everything about Aaron Mooy is class.
I hope he enjoys his retirement and whatever he does next.

Massive shame this. So much of his game was played in his head the you got the impression he could still play at a decent level (or Scotland) when he was 40.
