Probably the best player I’ve ever seen at Town. Definitely the case for me best I've ever seen in a Town shirt. I know the older generation have seen other great players too but I've never had so much confidence in a Town player on the ball as I did with Mooy. Could be a persistent injury or he might just fancy calling it a day either way good luck lad and thank you.

Best player I've seen at Town. Ended his time in the farmers league at his wife's home team now retiring very early. A very kept man.

Wishing you all the best Aaron, enjoy a well deserved retirement. I'm one of the old farts who saw Worthington in his prime for Town, 69-72, (yes his debut I think was 68, but apart from the cup run it wasn't a good season for Town) so not my best, but definitely top three. Jimmy Nicholson of course is also up there. Others, Stewart, Booth are also in the frame, maybe just a mm short for me.

I remember him v Wolves in promotion season. Played more passes than whole of their midfield. GOAT for me.

Happy retirement Aaron Mooy, thank you for the brilliant part you played, in our promotion season, & time in the Premier League. The goal you scored at L666ds was superb, up there with Jimmy Nicholson - UTT.

Great player. Our best midfielder since Jimmy Nicholson.

22 wins by a single goal in 2016/17, most of them seen out in comfort as Mooy didn't let them have the ball back.

Without a shadow of a doubt sublime cultured midfielder. In my lifetime him and Jimmy Nick stand so far ahead of the myriads of others I have watched. Classy midfielders who can hold on to the ball under extreme pressure and then pick a pass have never been abundant at town. Does anyone ever see Jimmy around ? Hope is in good health. He like Mooy should be celebrated at town 💙

Best player I’ve seen in a Town shirt and will remain that way for a long long time. It would be fantastic, but I struggle to imagine I'll see a better Town player than Mooy. My lad is 27 & TBH I wouldn't be that surprised if HE never sees a better Town player.

Possibly our best central midfielder in my time
But Chris Marsden was also a fricking brilliant midfielder too
So with that in mind I'm calling it a draw lol

That week was fantastic. Didn't we play Norwich at home too that week? No, just some other tin-pot outfit on the Sunday, beat them 2-1. If Carlsberg did long weekends...

Think it was a Sunday. Town fans singing away after the game coming out of the ground. Im guessing but think we were maybe 15th/16th after that win. Who knew what was just round the corner 😀

We wouldn't have gone up without Mooy. Head and shoulders above anyone else in that squad. Gifted midfielder. 100%, and we wouldn't have gone down two years later with him, either. Someone above asked whether he'd have been even better if he wasn't so shy. Shy players go missing on the pitch, or look to hide. Mooy never did that. In some respects he was braver than Hogg, because he ALWAYS wanted the ball and was never rushed with it.

In some respects he was braver than Hogg, because he ALWAYS wanted the ball and was never rushed with it. Was one of his best qualities. Could accept the ball even when he had two men on him. Also dictated the pace of our play. Watching those clips I’m reminded also that he was two footed.

Some really great - and well earned at that - tributes being bestowed upon Aaron Mooy on his retirement announcement today...
A lot of people were saying up here that he might leave Celtic after Ange Postecoglou his fellow Aussie left for Spurs and I’d hoped an emotional connection to Town might happen but it’s sadly not gonna be the case with his announcement earlier today -
He’s been a fantastic professional and lots of Celtic fans that I’ve been speaking to today are ‘gutted’ and are saying it’s no surprise that The Hoops’ form dipped dramatically after he took a kick v Hearts at Tynecastle that put him out for mostly the rest of the season and one Hoops fan that I know called The Jambos The Scumbos and Tynecastle Swinecastle after what they did to his ‘hero’ (Though he came back for his final match in May when The Hoops won the title there for a sweet revenge)...
Mooy walked Scottish Football and could look after himself well in an ‘agricultural’ football environment where players foul with impunity and little or no protection is afforded and he won’t miss that thuggery for sure, but anyway have a fantastic retirement Aaron and best wishes going forward in whatever you choose to do, and THANK YOU loads and loads for the joy you gave so many of us in your tenure at Huddersfield Town ! 👍 ⭐️ 🥃 😊

We wouldn't have gone up without Mooy. Head and shoulders above anyone else in that squad. Gifted midfielder. Totally agree. So many contributed to our promotion to the Premier League, but Mooy was the most important. Probably even more so than Wagner. As you say, we wouldn't have gone up without him. He wasn't just head and shoulders above anyone else in our squad, he was head and shoulders above most in the league that year. Lots of great memories of Mooy discussed on here. Another that sticks in my mind is when we played Norwich away, live on TV. Norwich hardly touched the ball in the first half. I don't think I've ever seen a more dominant performance from a Town team away from home. And much of that was down to an absolute masterclass from Mooy. I was also at Wolves the day we beat them 2-0 in the second PL season. Our midfield was superb that day. Looked like a proper PL team. Shame it fell apart so soon afterwards. Just a great player and a lovely bloke. Shame injury - a back injury I believe - has forced him to call it a day.

Great player. Our best midfielder since Jimmy Nicholson. Ah Jimmy nic even the camera was an opponent judging by the hard man faces he pulled whilst “posing” for team shots. My dads all time fave town player and I have the 69/70 team poster up in my garage. Would not want to be marking him or be marked by him for sure. For me mooy was world class however, Marcus Stewart is the most natural gifted player I’ve seen Don the famous blue and white. Discounting Rhodes at league one level no one has really replaced him.

100%, and we wouldn't have gone down two years later with him, either. Agree with everyone about his brilliance, He was in the team that went down mind? No, he was in the team which won two in a row in November and was actually playing better football than the year before. Then he got injured and we turned to shit.

Dont know whether this is back injury related or not, but my take would be he went there to play for the Aussie guy, he's now gone, Mooy is a real family man, he's made his dough and played in two World Cups, he's content with his lot so happy to quit and spend time with his family. As for the comment on Coaching job at Town.... not a kangaroo in hells chance! Definitley back related. He was killing it up there but all of a sudden he was out injured. Had nothing to do with the Aussie coach Postecoglou. I’m really sad today. Loved watching him play, has been my favourite player ever, just different gravy 🥲😭

Tough one this. I don't ever really give a shit when a player retires. It's expected when they do, and if they served and entertained, you wish them well and remember the fond memories.
Mooy retiring is almost deflating, it's a shame, still felt there was few more years left in him. It seems so early.
I was gutted when we sold him, absolutely gutted, but we could all understand why. Career development in terms of still playing in the premier league, then the china move (you'd never hate him for setting himself and family up financially), then up in Glasgow close to his wife's family etc.
But, one grip I really have, no other club (Brighton, Shanghai and Celtic) ever really appreciated him the way we did.
Aaron Mooy,, baller, gifted, talented, club legend irrespective of his short time with us.
Enjoy retirement.
