Fuck em shouldn’t be in the championship anyway we’re only promoted because of covid that’s why I was happy the hatters beat them in the final. Having worked in Coventry when they went up from league one illegitimately you’d have thought by their arrogance they’d won the champions league spending £50! What position was he playing?

What position was he playing? Think he wore the No 19 shirt. Played up front but was very often isolated.

"Seems an odd decision." They sold Gyokeres for just over £20m but in his two full seasons at Coventry they finished 12th and 5th, that 5th place finish was with 70 points, most seasons that wouldn't even get you in the playoffs. After 15 games that season, they were in the relegation places with 17 points. They always seem to start slowly and then Robins gets them going (as he'd just started to do again this season). It always amuses me that owners and chairman believe that the next manager is sure to be an improvement, as ours did when sacking Buxton, who was followed by Smith, MacDonald, Hand and Ross (who Mick came back to help keep us out of the 4th division). May the same happen to these sky blue twats, except Robins doesn't return to help and they go back to the basement where Robins found them on his second time there). Seem to have a strong dislike of a club we've hardly played in the last 50 years?

I'd have written this about any club doing something so stupid, but you're correct in detecting an underlying dislike for this club. They infested the lower reaches of the top division for 30-odd years starting in 1967, surviving on the last day several times, cheating to stay up under Jimmy Hill in the late 70s (combining with Bristol City to send Sunderland down), one FA Cup success and they're nearly everyone's favourite team, we got a brick through our coach window after they beat us at Highfield Road, they sing along to the tune of the Eton Boating Song and that chocolate away strip. More than enough transgressions to incur any proper football supporter's dislike, I would have thought.

If they've got good times because of that prick** then I understand the hatred somewhat. ** for sticking his nose (and chin) into the Kevin Gray business, wanker.

Created a very cheap and shite all seater stadium BT bolt no back seats onto open air terracing.

Why? He left us high and dry after one game and has been a total failure at Coventry with the budget he has had. League Two to the Championship play offs, an EFL Trophy and an FA Cup Semi Final in the 7 years he was there. Wish we'd had a total failure like that at Town in recent years... Exactly, and how many managers don't end up getting sacked eventually. Fergie, Klopp, there aren't many without failure on their CV. He's had way more success than failure and they're not exactly sunk!

All three teams had 34 points, with Sunderland having the best goal difference (and so only needing a point to stay up), then Bristol with Coventry in the last relegation place. Two draws would relegate Coventry. The Cities were drawing 2-2 and Sunderland were 1-0 down when Everton scored again. Jimmy Hill got the final score from Goodison on the scoreboard and Bristol City kept the ball in their half for the last 15 minutes. Town let Barnsley keep the ball for 90 seconds, was it?, before the ref blew his whistle, but Barnsley were risking Peterborough equalising at Palace and sending them down. Jimmy Hill made sure that neither his team nor Bristol were risking anything. If there had been a winning goal the loser would have gone down and if they'd started at the same time as the other game they'd have had to keep playing because Sunderland were only a goal behind until very late on. As recently as 2010-ish, Jimmy Hill had to leave the Fulham-Sunderland game early because his safety couldn't be guaranteed. What made it heartbreaking for the Mackems was that they'd just been promoted from the second division and had started so badly that by the turn of the year they needed snookers. They brought three young players in and began to get results, including two 6-0 wins. No comebacks from the Football League, of course. In the days before they changed things so that the final games all started at the same time, Coventry had to win all three remaining home games after the Cup Final to stay up, with none of their rivals at the bottom having any games left. I thought finally these sons of bitches are going down, but they won all three. Their descent to the bottom division wasn't far enough and didn't last long enough for me. They'll have had lots of people feeling sorry for them when they had to move out of their stadium and play at Northampton, but that won't have included anyone who recalled their antics in 1977. To coin a phrase, I hope they go bust.

Good article about it. My errors above are that Coventry were charged, found guilty but only reprimanded and the Fulham match was in 2008. I would have thought that the Sunderland supporters would have been queueing up to thump him given the chance.
