I must admit, reading through one or two articles the day we signed him, I didn't particularly like the sound of this (from February): I'm sure the the medical checks were comprehensive, there was just something about the way Warnock appeared to be claiming personal credit for the signing that makes me think back to the 'good old days' when he routinely had Dave Wilson tearing his hair out ;) I like what I've seen in flashes though - If they can get him fully fit I think he'll be an important player for us. |

Thought he was garbage again yesterday. Literally offers nothing and I still don't know if he is a more defensively or offensively minded CM...
That being said, Rudoni was awful last season and has hit form this.
On paper I would've said Wiles is the type of player we should be signing - young, succeeded in League 1 and doesn't break the bank.
Hope he comes good but I don't think at this stage offers us anything in our relegation battle.

We signed him on the back of a serious injury and it seems like he is yet to find the form he showed prior to that. The question is whether that injury has permanently made him poorer or whether it is just a case of gradually getting back to where he was |

Could also be another one who might thrive in a winning environment, but can be mentally shot when you go into every game with the mindset of WTF do we have to do to get a win, WTF do I have to do to get a goal.
Could end up being a good addition to the squad, but this is a squad that is still building its way out of a rut.

We weren't in a rut when he signed as it was a brand new season, yet he still looked to run out of gas after about 20-30 minutes. |

Scott High would be getting slaughtered on here if he was was with us and playing so poorly.
Rudoni was crap last season, but at least he was getting heavily involved in play. Wiles is just a passenger at the moment.

Rotherham fans were happy to let him leave as he wasn’t the same after his injury and was frequently anonymous in games. I can see why we took a punt on him if the rumours of Burnley looking at him last year, but he just hasn’t shown much quality to justify his price tag. |

Maybe he's just not as mobile as he was before his bad injury last season?
Sounds like he now has a disformed ankle going off his rehab interview with the Millers.
"My ankle is still looking a bit chunky but it might look that way for the rest of my career now. That's something that we'll just have to manage further down the line.”
Nothing I've seen of him so far makes me think he's a player to improve the team, looks unfit and slow. At Rotherham he was all energy box to box midfielder who had a good range of passing and a decent shot. The version we have has none of that.

Looked half decent first half. Still doesn't look fit. Could also be a one club man. It was obviously a big move for him after being at Rotherham for so long. He'll probably move back there on a free at some stage and be good again.

Prediction of Ben Wiles' upcoming performance against Preston on Tuesday, based on every single performance so far being about the same.
He'll not really affect the game, but show some flashes of clever play and bursts of energy in the first half. No noticeable moments at all in the second half and he'll fade into total anonymity by the hour mark before getting subbed off for Edmonds-Green or Diarra.

He does bits in games where you can see he has a bit of quality on the ball, which offers some hope. There are times where he does what you would expect and works hard to support attacks. BUT, there are also times where he hides from the ball. I don't mean the anonymous tag he has got, I mean he full-on hides and doesn't make himself available. Four or five times yesterday, he should have moved a couple of yards to take a simple pass but he stood still offering no option. A couple of times, there was space for him to move forwards and get into attacking areas and instead, be stood still. This is the bit I cannot fathom as there are other occasions where he does these basics. I get he isn't, and hasn't yet been, fully fit, but these are midfield basics. He can do them, just seems to choose not to. Definitely a player in there but for whatever reason, it isn't showing yet.
