I went to Munich to watch Arsenal. The food looked terrible, slop. Boiled everything with boiled cabbage. Even the hot dogs or whatever they want to call them are pink.
Beer was awesome but for food i stuck to mcdonald’s.

The hot dogs you're on about are Bochwurst (boiled) and you're right aren't anywhere near as nice as Bratwurst (grilled) or any of the other foods I mentioned. The boiled cabbage I think you mean Sauerkraut, which is like a condiment type thing. We have Piccalilli, Branstons and the like, they have boiled & pickled cabbage I certainly wouldn't choose McD over a currywurst and I'm not even an anti-McD snob Edit: if someone offers you a Berlinner, they're not a people-smuggler, it's what they call jam-filled doughnuts

But they had a massive influx of Turkish immigrants in the 80s so their Doner Kebabs are also great usually. That influx had a negative effect in some areas though, huge battles (think 70s NF in UK) between Turks and indigenous population that our squaddies invariably got caught up in on nights out. I remember in Soltau around 89/90 there was a massive brawl in the town centre between a load of Turks with knives and Germans with bats and clubs; half a dozen squaddies got caught up in it through no fault of their own but still ended up in Soltau's equivalent of the Glasshouse (military prison) for the night

Now the beer, wow Rocket Fuel and that's before you even try the Snapps. I think there will be a few mega hangovers that is for sure and it brings back great memories when i use to go to the Oktoberfest in Munich.

Oktoberfest is so over rated Bergkirchweih In Erlangen, or Annafest in Forchheim are both so much better. They’ve retained the less commercial element and are still very traditional Added to that, you’re only a short S-Bahn trip from Bamberg which is like a beer festival every weekend 🤪

But I would agree about it becoming over-commercialised, my previous sentence being the reason. But like you, nowadays I'd avoid going over during actual Oktoberfest and just take in the regular weekend/holiday ambiance of German beer-life, although I've never been to either of the other Fests you mentioned, will have to give them a try. And soapystevens with Schnapps you're supposed to drink it like an aperitif, not knock them back like shots** ** Yes I know we ALL drink Schnapps like shots

Germany is a great place to be and having travelled to many places there, the Towns and cities all have decent pubs with great beer and decent food. Dependent where England end up in, hopefully in the ruhrgebeit region, then I would opt to stay in Dusseldorf altstadt which is a great place to stay, for beer - try the Uerige brewery in the centre of the altstadt, which serves alt bier & schweinsaxe. Loads of footie grounds in this area too Koln, Schalke and Dusseldorf to name a few.

Can also recommend the "Sandkerwa" in Bamberg that takes place about a month later. Bamberg is absolute heaven for beer drinkers with good taste!

Germany is a great country to visit the people are friendly enough and i should imagine that most England fans will be on a liquid diet while they are over there. If you are camping your best going off the beaten track and there is some really good sites. For fans who are staying in or near to Frankfurt, i would give Heidelburg a visit it is a lovely city and just one of many.

The thing with the white sausage is you are not ment to eat the skin. Your ment to suck the meat out of it. I think it's the Victoria Market just down from the main city square in Munich. A normal market for cheese, ham, bread etc but got a bar in the middle of it. Got myself some bread, ham & cheese. Made a sandwich and ordered a litre of beer. Bloody marvellous 🥪 🍻🍻

Germany is also home to some of the best kebabs in the world Their Schashlicks are great, skewered meats, if that's what you're on about. But they had a massive influx of Turkish immigrants in the 80s so their Doner Kebabs are also great usually. That influx had a negative effect in some areas though, huge battles (think 70s NF in UK) between Turks and indigenous population that our squaddies invariably got caught up in on nights out. I remember in Soltau around 89/90 there was a massive brawl in the town centre between a load of Turks with knives and Germans with bats and clubs; half a dozen squaddies got caught up in it through no fault of their own but still ended up in Soltau's equivalent of the Glasshouse (military prison) for the night Went to Bremen in the mid 80s and got off the beaten track and ended up going into a, mainly Turkish frequented, bar. Not much muslim adherence, so plenty of beer being drunk. When we walked in it was one of those piano stops playing moments from a western - we though we were in bother. As soon as they heard our English accents at the bar though, they could not have been friendlier - because we were not German.

insights.betfred.com/football/euro-2024-predictor/This will be more fun than watching that first half of England v Bosnia. I've helped build this over the last few months and if you have a betfred account you can win £10k if you predict the most fixtures correctly in the first 24 games... Let me know what you think and who you have winning it!

I know you’re a decent poster when it comes to Town Bolton, but not sure that the admin should allow this shameless promotion of a betting company to be on the main page of the board.
Pop into one of the sub boards to have a think as to where the best place to put this post is.

Just for context, I’ve moved the posts rather than delete the thread as no current rules have been broken but I feel it would be better to not actively promote gambling on a thread of its own.
Mixed in here is palatable and not ‘in your face’ for people who may have issues with gambling; and there are some who have struggled on this forum with that issue.

For anyone taking a flag that’s over 1.5m x 2m, looks like there is an online form to fill out and they don’t accept the label that’s stitched on to the flag with the fire safety certificate. A paper copy of it is required from the supplier.
Easier to take 100’s of flares through though!

Two days to kick off, another surprise winner or semi finalists (like Wales) this time around or will the so called elite leagues fill the semi final places?......England are 3/1 favs but I quite like the look of Portugal & Spain, surprise teams could be the Scots or the Poles?
