Absolutely agree. The fact that we did not identify another alternative should the Taylor deal not proceed, is absurd. Shows Cartwright in a very poor light, if he's told Nagle that they were the only two strikers that would strengthen our team. Shows that he has very limited access to the others who would undoubtedly have improved our team. Worrying...!!! My bigger concern with this is that Alfie May was almost definitely a Duff suggestion (based on Cheltenham days), so once that went out of the window did we collectively, between the manager's and Cartwright's contacts, only have one other option who we thought would be an improvement on an injury-prone or Danny Ward-led front line? Baffling. 100% agree... I would ask them the question, if Ward was playing elsewhere to the same standard with the same output as he is here, would the club try and sign him? If the answer is no (as it should be) then there is no way he should be the mainstay of our front line.

Who have scored Zero goals between them this season. Brown hasn't even played and the last time they were in the Championship he scored 7 in 38. 45 goals in 258 games Since making his debut 10 seasons ago, Morris has had 2 season's where he's scored double figures. 90 goals in 387 games The season Luton got promoted to the Premier League, Adebeyo scored 7 in 42 games. 80 in 287 games. So not exactly prolific strikers to fall back on.... Morris and Adebayo both got 10+ in their maiden season in the Premier League. Did we have a single player who reached double figures across two Premier League seasons combined? So if Luton don't fancy them, they know where we are! I can't disagree with that and yes you would have expected them to have got of the mark by now. However, they were looking for another striker and failed to get their target, just as we did. And now their first striker of the bench is a lad they were willing to let come to us on loan. So their search for a striker over the summer failed just as much as ours did. And they sit second bottom with one point and 2 goals from 4 games. We sit 5th with 6 goals and 9 points (yes I know it's in a division lower). Did we need another striker, absolutely we did. Is it frustrating we didn't get another one, yes it is. I'm not trying to make out we have great striking options. However, there are not many strikers in world football, capable of scoring 20+ goals in league 1, that would actually be willing to come and play for Huddersfield Town in League 1. We tried for 2 of them and got very close. I pointed out previously that only 15 strikers have scored 20+ goals in the last 5 championship season. In that time there have been 42 teams that have played in league 1. Each team will have 4-5 strikers in their first team squads, that's 164 - 204 strikers who probably played league 1 football over the previous 5 season. 15 of them scored 20+ goals. Of the 42 teams that have made up League 1 in that 5 year period, only 13 have had a striker score 20+ in a season, yet every single one will have been trying to sign a 20+ goal scorer. So 29 failed to do so. Surely the above figures prove that it is very very difficult for clubs that are in the 3rd division in England to find strikers capable of scoring 20+ goals, who are actually willing to come and play League 1. We tried and got very close with 2. I'm not sure there are currently that many others we could have realistically tried to sign. Clubs have to willing to sell and more importantly players have to be willing to play in the 3rd division.

The silence on the situation surrounding the Stadium purchase, drags on. Every time he does a diary "it is very close" As previously stated by another poster,it has been in this state for ages now. What the hell is the obstacle that a {Billionare} cannot solve.Alan Sugar would have tied em in knots. I'd suggest it may well be Ken Davy. What happens to the Giants if Town take full ownership of the stadium. They would have to start paying rent to Town and would have no home of their own. What happens if Town go bust. The stadium would be closed and the giants would have nowhere to play. There is currently no viable reason for Ken Davy, as an astute businessman, to sell the Giants 20% share in the stadium company. The only viable reason would be if the Giants moved into their own Purpose built stadium. But that's likely to cost the best part of £15-£20m+ to build at todays cost. Plus they probably couldn't even afford to run and maintain such a stadium on their own. So who's gonna pay for it building and all the running & maintenance costs. They are currently playing in a very nice stadium, which someone else paid for and someone else if paying the vast majority of Maintenance and running costs. Other than rent, it's likely the Giants are paying for nothing. If the Stadium complex is every made into a profitable and sustainable business, then the Giants currently get 20% of any profits. Ken Davy is not going to give up that opportunity easily. As it stands I see little business sense in Ken Davey selling the Giant share. Naturally I hope I'm wrong and the above is a load of bollox, he sells today and Town take over the stadium complex Ken Davy definitely has something on his near horizon. www.londonstockexchange.com/news-article/FNTL/director-pdmr-dealing/16467529£3 x 3,116,167 = the kind of seed capital that attracts *major* outside investment (and its a mere blip, he still has £60m+ in the business) (or he could be about to buy Hudds Town FC ? 😅😅😂)

bells ringing :)I get the point your making and understand it. But are you really suggesting that we should have just signed a fit strike, any striker who was fit and might get 8-12 goals in league 1? At the end of the day, you sign him on a 2-3 contract and if he doesn't score goals, you're stuck with him. We're trying to improve the squad. Not just sign players who are at the same or a similar level as we already have. That's not an easy thing to do. I am sure if we could have sold Ward we would have done. But the lad is simply seeing out his final year with us out and enjoying he home in Skelmanthorpe with his indoor golf simulator. He'll either retire at the end of the season and go play gold or join a club close to home in League 2 / National League. Healey and Bojan have been injured most of the time since we signed them, so we couldn't move them on. We can only have so many players in the squad. No point in adding another striker who's not going to improve us other than having a better injury record. It's why we let Harratt go. He wasn't going to score many goals in for us this season, so might as well let him go play somewhere and see if he develops. Or has a half decent season and we can then sell him for a little more than we could now. I do see your point about having someone with pace up front and largely agree. But pace is only worthwhile having if you can finish the chances. No point signing a fast Danny Ward. I do get your frustration and everyone else's, I really do. And I'm not making excuses for the club or a happy clapper. But I can understand why we didn't have another option for Taylor and I do understand why we didn't just sign another striker just to have another fit player available. Anyway, we have what we have until January....Maybe Bojan will surprise us all...or not.

The next few weeks are going to be really stressful ones for our owner on both sides of the 'pond', Sacramento play at Charleston who are 2nd in the Eastern league tomorrow & then they face top of the Western table New Mexico home & away in the space of 11 days......With Town facing five tough L1 fixtures (SR face six) in the 3 weeks between breaks its going to be a bit of a nervy period for KN.

I think its the statments made after or even with hours to go in the window, in Nagles case last friday.
The improve the squad thing is a very interesting point though, as bar a glimpse to date, i am yet to see any "major" improvement with any signings made by Cartwright.
Bojan- he scored goals in the finish league and we paid 1.3 mil euros. He has yet to impress me at all, looks weak and in the main disinterested when he has played. Further to this , what is this so called "injury" he has ? i think there is something fishy there. Balker- injury prone, then gets a big injury, ok but , we shall see when he returns. jury out really Matos- worked hard, yet could not trap sand, first touch for a supposed Chelsea "prospect". Healey- we paid money for the privilege , to manage this guys injruies. The lad seems to get injured , just standing up.
We then get to the summer just finished Evans- looks lost bar a half hour at peterbrough Kane- picked up the town injury bug already. Marshall- will it work in our system, can finish, but will we ever see the best of him? Nigel L- i think he was brought in due to Spencer injury, he would not have being brought in otherwise. Hodge - looks good, but hogg will start every week regardless, so squad filler unforunately. Sorensen- looks good , but defensively needs a lot of work Miller- was he a huge improvement on what we had ?
What the point of me pointing this out, is was there "no one better " or was it just Cartwrights contacts are not as good as he makes out ? As i am yet to be impressed by his signings or his managerial appointments. It at the moment seems we talk a lot, yet under Nagle have delivered next to nothing. Are these statments made to hide behind, the fact that the money just is not there and will not be there, but hidden behind grandiose statments. Because to say we could not find a cf better than we already have, imo it would not have taken much looking to find better , they were all over the place. Our cf's look certain obvs quailities you need to be a complete front line attack , these will become more and more as time goes on. I say this as the way Duff wants to play you will need different variates on cf's, to break down defences even more so. At the moment we seem very 1 D . I could go on all day and night about stuff and the fact is this squad is lacking in many key areas still. Now if they had not stated their ambitions i would not have an issue, but to state something and then not really back it up is strange.
To get where we need to be standards have to rise thoughout the club, yet "just enough " seems to be the mentaility yet again. We aimed low last year and failed to hit that target!

Where? And I mean realistic ones who would join a 3rd division side. May would have if Brum weren't doing a Brewster's Millions and chucking cash at everyone. Taylor would have but we were left hanging by Luton. (I've explained on another post we shouldn't have waited on them) I haven't seen many names our 3rd division rivals have signed that made me sit up and think "wish we'd signed them". Devante Cole was mentioned; went to a Champ club so we had no chance. Clarke Harris was mentioned; went to the club (and manager) of his choice, so again no chance, not that I'd have wanted him anyway personally. In fact looking at this list I can't really see any that I'd dribble in my pants about signing tbh www.transfermarkt.us/league-one/transfers/wettbewerb/GB3/saison_id/2024

Cole was a free agent for a long time, prior to going to West Brom, therefore it is visable that if we had offered him a deal earlier he would have signed. He can not have being waiting for a champ offer , that may never have come.
Taylor- Good player and very much , would be a good signing for us. Cartwright talked about having lists and lists of players, it seems that after Taylor we had no back up plan, which is not good planning is it really for a club who brought in 3 new recuritment staff this summer alone.
Cartwright was supposed to be linked up big time to , yet does not that seem that way . We talked about being "ready" for this summer, yet we seem very reactive not proactive. Put this way if Hoyle was overseeing this, would people be so kind ? or Phil H for that matter? i don't think they would have got away with saying what they did, yet did not really deliever on it. I mean fucking hell people are still dragging up quotes Hoyle and Phil put out. Our current owner has stated a Premier league ambition and he is going to buy the stadium or at least rights to it . Yet has not backed up a word yet and i say YET as i really want him to god i really want him to. Put it this way i will apologise if at the end of the season we are promoted for "worrying" or showing concern .....

I think that depends. Pre PL Hoyle we'd be fawning over him giving every excuse under the sun. Post PL Hoyle we'd be marching to the Mac with pitchforks and blazing torches Edit: On your point with Cole, when he was a free agent is when most people were saying we don't want him, he's shit. But suddenly now he's signed in the Champ it's we should have signed him.

He’s getting on a bit now, not too long to wait. This situation has been like a blocked drain for far, far, too long.

Ok we know the council want shut of the share they own but how do they do it fairly, give/sell half each to Town & Giants then let Kev & Ken negotiate the best way forward.......The non sport folk will want KMC to get as much as they possibly can but I'm almost sure they could not sell to another bidder, can they?

Genuinely hope Giants go bust, they bring absolute nothing to the table. Pathetic that a shite rugby league team , that barely anyone follows, is potentially holding Town back. Been like this too long.

Been like this too long. I’m no Giants fan but they feels a tad extreme. After all, there’ll be fans of Town and the Giants, people with strong association to the club and the game was born in the town too. The previous points about Uncle Ken not wanting to let a payday slip is probably true, but I see no reason why they can’t relocate. Having such low crowds won’t create an atmosphere for their team.

Genuinely hope Giants go bust, they bring absolute nothing to the table. Pathetic that a shite rugby league team , that barely anyone follows, is potentially holding Town back. Been like this too long. The problem is that Davy soured any relationship between Town and the Giants by his actions. In effect, he placed the Giants above Town and put the club in a position where it subsidised the Giants. One club has held the upper hand over the other in all matters stadium-related since 2003, and thanks to his actions Town have paid through the nose. I see no reason for the Giants to move out, in truth. One stadium in Huddersfield is fine. That they currently rattle around in it with small crowds is down to their relative lack of success and investment (ooh, a running theme). But they shouldn’t be pushed out for that reason. A fair, equitable solution should really be found to the advantage of both clubs. Although what that looks like is open to debate.

Can't Giant play up at Laund Hill YMCA? I bet you could fit their crowds around that rugby pitch plus they own some of it now (maybe all of it?) as it is their training base I believe

Is there space nearby to build a small up to 10K stadium that the Giants, Town B team and Town Ladies could use for matches? Something similar to what Man City have built near the main Etihad stadium.

Isn’t the whole Stadium issue a reflection of the fact that Mr Nagle bought the club to make a financial return, most importantly without any apparent understanding of the difference in English and American Sports Cultures. In American Sports the franchise owners co-operate to ensure mutual financial benefits. In England club owners operate a system of cut-throat competition to achieve promotions, with relegation a constant threat if insufficient money is invested. There are no wage caps and a market that inflates player’s wages to unsustainable levels. He appears to have seen a Google Map picture of the land around the Stadium and an opportunity to make a buck. If only it were that simple. This is a report of the proposed HD One Development from 2010. 'HD One will see 51 acres of unused land around the Galpharm developed into a huge complex including 147 apartments, a 144-bed hotel, a ski slope, a casino, 21 bars and restaurants, a surf simulator, 10-pin bowling alley, two nightclubs, a music venue, offices and a bingo hall. It will create 900 jobs. Building work is due to start in 2012'. That’s aged well. The Stadium Company has overdue accounts, possibly because they cannot be signed of as relating to a ‘going concern’, as the Council have said they are not willing to put in any more funding, and appears to be on it’s last legs The Stadium Company was designed to allow Town and the Giants to focus on running their clubs by having a Stadium provided for them. The money generated by commercial activity in and around the Stadium, would in conjunction with the club’s rents, allow the Stadium Company to operate at a profit and generate funding to pay back the original shareholder investment and ensure that new investment could be made. I would suggest that there are two particular issues. The future of the Giants at the Stadium and whether Mr Nagle can acquire the land on a Freehold basis. The Council own 40% of the Shares in the Stadium and are still actively involved in it’s management as Cllr Turner as just been put on the Board to replace Cllr Davies who has become the MP for Colne Valley. I would suspect the Council would argue that the Giants must remain at the Stadium and the land must remain in public ownership with retention of the Freehold. In America Mr Nagle could just say to the Council that he will relocate the Franchise elsewhere if they don’t give him what he wants. Mr Nagle’s best bet may be for the Stadium Company to go into Administration and for him to buy it from the Administrators-providing Ken Davy doesn’t beat him to it!

I actually think that if KN cannot get hold of the stadium outright, and does a deal to move the Giants out he would probably look at building a new stadium fot HTAFC Plenty of land down Cooper Bridge and Brighouse way that are ripe for development.

I reckon the first aim should be to escape from League 1. Could end up being a long term League 1 team with a great stadium. We haven't quite cracked player recruitment yet.

I think if the stadium moved so that it was beyond walking distance from the town centre it could wipe off thousands from the attendances.

Our 'future town captain' has now gone on loan to AFC Halifax. That just shows what we've been up against in the last few seasons with Bromby, and I don’t think Cartwright is an improvement at all. It's definitely a worry that only two strikers in the world of football were fit to wear the shirt? The most bonkers statement since Scott High was touted as our future captain. We need to get somebody right for the job ASAP!

Still don't see many names of strikers that we could have brought in. Without giving examples of players we could have brought in and just saying "there's loads of strikers that we could have that are better than weve got" is an easy thing to say but the reality is far different.
With Devante Cole he may not have signed for West Brom for a while but Middlesbrough, Bristol City, Swansea and Stoke were also linked with him straight after the play off final so to say if we'd have offered him a contract he'd have taken it is ridiculous because I've no doubt his agent would have already had offers from Championship clubs. I'd imagine it was closer to trying to play clubs off against each other to boost a contract why it took so long. I can't honestly believe people actually think he'd have been sat there trying to find a club and willing to take the first offer that came in, especially for probably his last big contract.

I would say that a third of Towns support don't live in Huddersfield and if there was to be a new stadium in Huddersfield it would have to be built pretty far out of Town. Scammondam maybe or somewhere up Lepton plenty of land up there.

Why have we pretty much exclusively looked at league 1/2 players to bring in? Plenty of leagues with plenty of quality strikers to explore around the world, many without the price tags English players cost. We set on scouts that specialised in LG 1/2 and totally blinkered ourselves from the rest of the world, which led to daft statements that only two strikers were good enough for us.
