Look at Birmingham. Absolutely terrible last year but invested in providing a quality team. Guess what, they are selling out every single game. That's 1000s more in revenue, merchandising, food sales etc etc. We have an owner who can't understand why we have a half empty lethargic stadium. It's because the quality is not on show. If they want that they absolutely must invest in the team first 100 % correct. Nagle and Duff contradicting each other. Quotes from Duff re Bojan " The club invested a lot of money in him, so they obviously saw something...." - I take that to mean that Duff doesnt. Bojan is a shocking player. Our attack simply has no quality and pace. Until, as you say, proper investment happens then nothing will change. I always look at players we’ve signed like this - would another similar club sign him. Bojan has got to be one of the biggest pussies I’ve seen. He’s won about 3 headers in 10 months. He’s somehow been worse than healey. He makes Marshall or whoever he’s paired with look average because he has to do the work of two strikers.

I find it difficult to criticise some of the players who have been with us a few years because relative to their outlay many of them have actually been half decent signings. Pearson, Lees both free transfers and both have been okay for us. Hogg has given us now 11 years service, again you can't grumble. The problem is though that many of them now are in rapid decline yet they still form the backbone of our team. Pearson aside who I actually think looms better than last year the rest of those who have been with us for a while just aren't cutting the mustard anymore. Ward, Ruffels and even Turton (who I have a soft spot for) are simply not good enough anymore. Koroma is doing okay this season but if we are serious about being winners we need better than okay. We needed a clear out this summer and we didn't get it. It appears though that only town fans can see it.

The others are the same, deadwood who’ve stagnated - none of them are on the up. I know he’s gone now, but look at diarra - was expected to go on to big things but we didn’t let him go out on loan and didn’t really give him proper playing time and as far as I know he’s still without a club

That lad will always be a b team superstar imo.

When will this bloke learn Number of players who faced Tamworth from the start who didn't start in any of the immediately preceding 3 league games = 3. Iorpenda, Headley, and Maxwell. To say thats "not our best starting 11" is technically correct, but its a BIT FRICKING RICH!! That was pretty close to the strongest team we could have put out. Will be interesting to see how different our "best starting 11" is for the next league game - and if its not very different, why aren't we playing our best 11 ?! (we are, and we did!).

Iorpenda will probably get loaned despite the fact he’s our only midfielder above about 5 foot 10 I think the club gave Diarra enough chances and realised he wasn’t going to make it. I agree about Iorpenda but the comparison would be Billing, he was given limited minutes despite being clearly better than what we had, and was then only played regularly in our decline. Still we got great money for him. I do wonder if the club are protecting Iorpenda, because it’s slightly baffling why he’s not the first name on the team sheet every week.

I'm assuming you weren't around in the 2003/4 season when we lost to conference side Accrington Stanley in the first round of the FA Cup That season also included losses as follows 1-0 at home to York City 2-1 away to Bury 2-6 away to Scunthorpe 4-0 away to Macclesfield Town 2-0 at home to Darlington 1-0 away to Carlisle 2-1 away to Kiddeminister Harriers That season included winning 1 in 7. That was all after being relegated into the bottom division the season before. Losing 23 games and scoring just 39 goals all season. To say that last night was the worst in our history, after a bad run and getting relegated just 6 months ago is just a dumb as fuck comment I'm afraid. To be fair, the circumstances of the club at that point in time was very different to now. Only had several players on the books and the squad was made up of academy players, put together months before that defeat to Accrington. Exactly. Also the defeat to Accrington wasn't a none performance like Tamworth. Jon Worthington was very harshly sent off iirc which is basically why we lost. We were beaten by the better team v Tamworth. Not the same. We did get beat 4 0 at Macclesfield which was a low point and managed to recover.

I find it incredible that so many people struggle to spell a surname containing five letters. It's 'Nagle', for christ's sake. Check your last post in the Duff thread where you spelt Corberan, Coberan. Clearly a typo.

I can’t believe Nagle will allow the club to walk into another transfer window with Cartwright pulling all the strings on signings yet again. The guy is utterly clueless and has to go asap. That in itself would go some way to repairing any rift with the fanbase as we all think he’s absolutely hopeless.

I told all this to Nagle when he was appointed. Nagle said he had got fantastic reports about him. Probably from Beswick sports who were involved in Nagle’s takeover.
Nagle has total 100% blind faith in Cartwright. He won’t be getting rid of him sadly.
The only decent signings he has made have been Miller and Kane.
Hodge and llonwijk are loan players.
None of Cartwright signings have any sort of decent sell On value. It’s a shit show.

I just can't see a way out of it. Beswick are so tied up in the club. How can you sack him when we're in a contract with Beswick to advise us. Pay up their contract? How does that work when our manager is also one of theirs? We've really painted ourselves into a corner with this.

I’ve been in a couple of situations in my working life where I’ve spoken up to management about certain individuals who weren’t up to the job. I did it politely and professionally, it wasn’t a whingefest type thing. Nor was it said with envy, I was quite happy with the tasks allocated me, just that I (& others) could see that these people were doing things wrong and pointing out the detrimental impact of their approach. On both occasions it was a “thanks, but concentrate on your own area” response. It feels like it may well be a leading another horse to water scenario with Beswick Sports. The strange thing is Nagle can’t have got where he is without sniffing out bullshitters? The thing that Maynard (I think) mentioned, about Cartwright taking the Managers office when Warnock left. That’s an ego on steroids something like that, and Nagle & Edwards should have put him back in his box… Feels a bit like the tail wagging the dog….

Think it's unfair to say Cartwright was an obviously poor pick at the time.
The transfer record at Stoke during his tenure is at worst mixed. There are some stellar transfers. Arnutovic, Shaqiri, Butland, Martins Indi, Pieters, Bojan. Selling Sobhi to us.
There are a lot of flops too, particularly when they started shopping in the 10m+ range.
How much of that success and failure is down to Cartwright alone is hard to know, but for a league one club it was a decent CV on paper.
Cartwright also seems to have been part of success in the US that Nagle will have seen first hand. The leagues tramsfer record was broken multiple times and sounds like Cartwright had a big impact on the academy side.
But,,, after appointment you have to judge on what people do now and are likely to do next. Not what they have done previously. We only see half the picture as fans, but what I see:
3+ year contract for Moore, Bretenreiter, (maybe Duff?). All costly flops.
4*£1 million pound transfers all are flops so far as well. Wiles the only one that has any value left, and that value is maybe half the outlay at best.
Ladapo 2 year contract. £400,000 wages over those 2 years as a guess.
I think the loans have been his best bit of business.
And we don't know what improvements.he might have made behind the scenes. It could all be very impressive and progressing well.
If they are happy with Cartwright then fair enough they can trust him with another £5-10 million of fee and wage decisions in January. I wouldn't, but it's Nagle's money.
Perhaps if they go that route they should appoint a global head of football overseeing both his clubs. A fresh face without the ties to Beswick etc. The role Klopp has taken up at Red Bull.
Sacramento can pay the bulk of his wages for FFP reasons and he can live in California to make it more attractive. I'd go for something out of the box and get a director from Central or Southern America and target those leagues. Under the post brexit new visa rules there is a whole new market for English and League One clubs. Birmingham have signed South Koreans and Japanese players, let's get some Mexicans and Paraguayans.

Not sure there is a great deal of longevity to it. If that's the case then fair play but lets not pretend its anything different.

Diarra was due to go out on a season long loan to a league 1 club but then got injured and the deal fell through. He played a bit when he was back from injury and the club (Bromby) decided to keep him in the January window. He's currently in Abu Dhabi with Al Wahad. Shit league, but a Muslim country. So he is very happy Camara was the one we mismanaged. Bromby refused to let him go on loan a few times, promising him he'd get regular game time, but he never did. Lad got pissed off and so refused to sign a new contract. Hopefully we don't make the same mistake with Iorpenda Young players need to play regularly at the level that right for them at that time to develop. Diarra should never have been anywhere near our Championship squad when he was. He was an average League 1 player at that time and should have been out on loan at that level.

Disagree, looked a poor pick at the time. In a totally unrelated role in America and clearly a jobs for the boys pick rather than picked on merit. Said it when he was appointed. I can see why it was done but just picking two Brits who you liked and were doing a good job with USL in a similar (actually not) role was too simplistic. Same applies to JE imo although his performance is impossible to rate due to the fact we hear nothing from him and nothing about what he does. He seems to get off scot free as we see him as more of an administrator for some reason. I'm convinced the club will go nowhere until one or both are replaced. I won't hold my breath although I'm not sure how much longer they can keep blaming the past for present performance. Will it be measured in years or millions spent I wonder. So far they've blamed Warnock, previous losing mentality, and even the fans are in the firing line this year. You couldn't make it up. I'm afraid if you tried that line with a seasoned English owner they'd laugh in your face. Kevin's main take from Fridays debacle seemed to be that some naughty fans told the players to FO afterwards. How does the owner even get to find that out? What kind of relevance is it? Who is deeming that to be suitable feedback for the owner after one of the worst results in the clubs history? Someone making excuses, that's who. Does poor Kevin honestly find it surprising? Judging from his tweet he clearly does. It's a measure of his nativity I'm afraid. He should speak to any other owner of a similar club and ask whether that reaction from a few fans is to be expected or not and whether it should impact the players or the coach in a significant way. We all know any team would get that and a lot worse, it's normal and not worthy of note and it says nothing other than the fact the team are getting a metaphorical kick up the arse from fans who deserve much better.

Perhaps a fair contrast is our progress under Mr Nagle off the pitch and on the pitch.
Off the pitch no one can really argue that there has been significant progress. There is an organisaton structure, there are credible (on paper) appointees, there has been investment in the academy structure (with it being repurposed), despite relegation jobs have been retained and the working environment upgraded, the stadium has been effectively spring cleaned (much needed too) and there is a deal in the offing to change the ownership. All of those actions are visible and credible.
On the pitch, well let's be honest we might have differing opinions on what the issues are but I think we are all far from convinced about the decisions taken at 1st team level. Over the 18 months of the Nagle era we have regressed. Although the Duff era shows signs of hope the inconsistency, wild inconsistency, very quickly diminish those hopes. The message that "everything is fine" and we need to "trust the process" don't help/wash in the face of capitulations like Friday. In simple terms the team doesn't convince and there is too much evidence to support that opinion.
As a result there is a significant imbalance between what happens in the background and what we watch on a Saturday/Tuesday. And for all the positives they count for nothing if people have little/no faith in the team (NB: I would give MD more time as I think he might be the catalyst to change this, but he needs to be robust in telling those in the club what needs to change - and he needs supporting).
3 days on from Friday we start to look forward to the next game. The pressure is now on, there is little wriggle room both in terms of league position and the perception of the team if it isn't already hitting the bottom (fairly or not) it is pretty close.
I feel this will go one of two ways. Either the team will galvanise, start to really build momentum and get results required (for promotion) or they will continue to stumble between the ok and the bloody awful. If the latter happens then no positive rhetoric will convince fans we are on the right track, because we aren't so gullible.
The period between now and New Year has to convince otherwise Mr Nagle has to accept something different needs to happen.
