A pacey CB would make Helik twice the (already very good) player he is.

Anyone else think we desperately need a centre half ? Lees - had one great year but very average and getting on Pearson - love the guy. Been a great signing but too slow Helik - the main man Naka - decent at LCB REG - naaa 👍👍

Lees - had one great year but very average and getting on / Not average Tom Lees performances are excellent despite his age especially when on the right. Pearson - love the guy. Been a great signing but too slow / back soon Helik - the main man / Top CB not many better in the league. Naka - decent at LCB / just got a place and playing well and then away for a few weeks. REG - naaa / please dont ever play him CB (or anywhere)
Ayina - Promising youth epect him to start against City. Ruffles - good at LCB hopefully back end of Jan early Feb Turton - can play RCB and should be back in contention next few weeks. Others if playing a 3 for an odd game. Hogg - can do a job in middle of a 3 if desperate especially now we have a new no 6 Spencer - if desperate could play in a 3 Jackson - if desperate could play in a 3

I’m not feeling it with Lees this season With Lees, you have to have pace around him , both alongside but also at wing back/ right back. Lees was good under CC as he either played central in a back 3 or alongside Turton at right side centre half. Turton under CC was not really a forward thinking right back, so could cover Lees.

Massive difference to what we have had this year - lees is still decent enough but like them all when exposed can be found wanting against mobility.

Lees is not bad at all, but you have to find realtionships that work together . CC found a way of playing that suited everyone, its upto Moore to find that now / by either changing what we do, or bringing players in to aid that.

Agreed, Lees has been an absolute quality addition when it mattered, along with Pearson. But 2-3 years on, their flaws are becoming more evident. They both lack pace which is the problem we need to repair. As leaders/experience, no club in the league could do much better. This is not a dig at their ability, commitment or whatever, but reality hits. Both need to be replaced (in terms of starters). Both are very much adequate for cover/playing 15-20 games in the league. For the level we want to be at, we need better.

I said this several times in the summer window but I have no idea why the clamour for JCH. There is a reason that posh want rid. There is a reason that only L1/2 clubs are ever linked. There’s a reason that when posh were in the champ he never played. That reason is he’s not good enough. Simple. Going to Charlton apparently. There’s something wrong here. He’s been out of the team at Peterborough for 2 months. Still scoring goals (10 in 24)but there must be reason he’s not drawing championship interest. Perhaps Charlton filling a spot with another double barrelled forward coming to Town? CF forward for a winger but…

I would even go on to say probably 5 or 6 PL clubs he would start for. Our issue is, regardless.of how expeirenced/good Hekik, Lees and Pearson are; facing pace is an issue. 2 years ago, they were a a yard quicker (bar Helik as he was at Barnsley) but Colwill had that pace to cover in behind. I don't think any team has a more experienced defence. But pace, that is what catches us out.

Well said and i agree 100% with everything you have said, we know it isn't going to happen this window but i really hope they address it at the end of the season like you say 2 -3 season on they are older and slower long term we need younger with pace.

Right now though we arent and yet again just need to steer clear of the trapdoor which with 2 or 3 additions we are capable of doing. Replacing lees and pearson wont be easy though......both are very decent at this level with huge experience. Getting the right lads in front of them are the big issue for me. Cant underestimate the gigantic hole in midfield left when LOB left......nobody since has come close and he and hogg alongside russell in the main were a real compliment of styles. Hopefully matos, hogg and rudoni can work well together.

If we want to be on the front foot it would help to be able to push the back line higher.at present we can’t do that really because the lack of pace means it’s easy to play balls down the side and over the top to run onto. The options we have now are all very good at defending the box and when playing a certain way they standout but if we want to progress at least one back there needs genuine pace.

I personally would be playing reg at centre half against city not ayina, yes he’s not been the best there in some games in the past but he’s looked steady when he’s played recently albeit in a different position.Ayina looked absolutely all over the place against Leicester, his positional sense looked poor at best. I’d actually be amazed if we don’t sign one

Just throwing a name out there being rumoured - a young very skillful winger we are looking at as a Premier loan.....Omari Kellyman currently at Aston Villa. All l know is he - as many previous have gone on to have a very useful career after being Player of the tournament at the Hong Kong Sevens. Anyone know anything further about him?
