Under CC we had a younger hogg and obrien protecting the back line. Massive difference to what we have had this year - lees is still decent enough but like them all when exposed can be found wanting against mobility. Agreed, Lees has been an absolute quality addition when it mattered, along with Pearson. But 2-3 years on, their flaws are becoming more evident. They both lack pace which is the problem we need to repair. As leaders/experience, no club in the league could do much better. This is not a dig at their ability, commitment or whatever, but reality hits. Both need to be replaced (in terms of starters). Both are very much adequate for cover/playing 15-20 games in the league. For the level we want to be at, we need better. Totally agree, I love the Keighley Cannavaro & both he & Lees have done a great job for us but if we are to progress & play more football, the CBs, at least in a 3, need more pace & passing ability. |

A pacey CB would make Helik twice the (already very good) player he is. A pacey center back? What's one of those? I’m sure we’ll find out this afternoon! Not sure I fancy any of our fit forwards in a race with Kyle Walker. |

I'm no tactical genius, far from it, but are ball playing, pacy centre backs really necessary at this level? I remember lots of successful teams having no nonsense quality centre backs with no peace. Surely if you setup right it shouldn't be necessary. I think we're blessed with three top quality centre backs and have backup with Hogg, ruffles, reg. I also think our first choice three can pass the ball just fine. I think it's the least of our worries personally but like I said I'm not expert! I'm guessing they don't grow on trees either. |

Couple of things as iv mentioned in another post,lees and Pearson are both(can probably chuck Helik in this too) very good defenders for the level.However if we do want to progress the style of play we should look to be after at least one centre half to come in who is quick and also good on the ball. I personally would be playing reg at centre half against city not ayina,yes he’s not been the best there in some games in the past but he’s looked steady when he’s played recently albeit in a different position.Ayina looked absolutely all over the place against Leicester,his positional sense looked poor at best. I’d actually be amazed if we don’t sign one "Probably chuck Helik in this too", he's streets ahead of the other 2 Tbf was only referring to the pace element.didn’t really explain very well.although he in fairness is probably slightly quicker than the other two. Don’t get me wrong if we stick with a three he’d be first name on team sheet or if go to a two the same. |

Just throwing a name out there being rumoured - a young very skillful winger we are looking at as a Premier loan.....Omari Kelllyman currently at Aston Villa. All l know is he - as many previous have gone on to have a very useful career after being Player of the tournament at the Hong Kong Sevens. Anyone know anything further about him? Hong Kong 7's, we're after another egg chaser 🤔 I know we need to bulk the forward line but this is taking it a bit far. Hopefully they’ve heard the rumour wrong and we are selling Simpson to the HK 7’s. |

A pacey fullback who can tackle can cover up the weaknesses of no-nonsense centre backs. I remember Peltier (1st spell) would sweep up behind a high line.

One to mark, one to cover behind and to bring the ball out and one to cover the wing backs. The one covering behind needs some pace. Colvill did get the gig after a while. We are ending up in open play having all 3 centre backs all stood next to each other somewhere between the goal keeper and the penalty spot and acres of space on the edge of the box and down the sides of it. I like having full backs if im honest, one centre back marking and one covering. Helik plus one.. I like having 4 proper defenders on the pitch and one proper holding midfielder, the other 5 can be of varying attacking types. I know its old school..😔 |
