A transfer window where you don’t know your manager or the system you’re recruiting for seems very Town. That’s what they were hoping to avoid in both windows. And one of the reasons why they waited so long to pull the trigger on Moore. But it didn’t work out for one reason or another.

What makes you think there wouldn't be a place for Burgzorg? We're going to need all the goals we can get over the run in, and he has been one of our better performers over the season. I know we've got Radulovic and Healy, but they're both yet to prove themselves. No I meant when Burgzorg is back there won't be a space for Koroma in the side. Ah right, apologies.

Ndlovu is STILL the best loan player we've ever had.

Ndlovu is STILL the best loan player we've ever had. Think that's nostalgia talking, fella. Close second, without doubt (I bloody loved him) - but how can you look past Mooy?

All good shouts. You could probably throw together a very good XI.
Harper
Chalobah (RB) Kongolo (Loan version) Colwill Chilwell
Kachunga Mooy ESR Thornley (Loan version)
Knight Ndlovu
Mentions for Kelly, Morrison and Vaughany too and probably missing some.

OK... Loan only is what i meant. Who is yours? Steve Harper was class in that half season we had him. I was sure we'd had him for two, but you're right, only 24 league games for us. Seemed longer, and what a wasted career being No.2 for so long.

Southend wanted £350k for him, apparently, and, of course we wouldn't pay it. He went to West Ham for £500k later on. With Marsden injured again, (after we'd finished the regular season with 22 points out of a possible 24), we went into the play-offs with Kieran and fat John (and they didn't let us down, but we were surely nailed on to win the play-offs with our first-choice midfield).

I was wondering if I was mis-remembering, but he was good for us - right? Seemed to lose his way a bit, though he hasn't had too bad a Prem career. In fact I just looked him up - on loan at Wigan. Decent club, I've got a lot of time for them.

Exactly as I remember it. Didn't Town win every game with Butler and Marsden in midfield? They said Southend were taking the piss, but it cost Town promotion and we had to endure 3 more years in the third tier.

There’s a pattern going back decades where we wouldn’t stump up what was required for a player, typically we wouldn’t stretch to that extra hundred grand or so and it was the difference between promotion (or safety) or not and it’s still going on. Very short sighted.
