I've seen us concede 4, 5, 6 and 10 at City (the 4 was a League Cup replay in 1968-69), but it's either a hatful or, quite often, nil. Their offside 8th, 9th and 10th (and the first) were the last goals they scored against us at Maine Road and we went there 3 or 4 more times, including the 0-0 after extra time in the Cup replay in 1988 ('go on, score 10 against us again, you bastards') and the Rob Edwards match. This doesn't have the look of a nil, though. What a night, the Rose & Crown in Almondbury had a City following of around 8-12 blokes (older lads & a few ex squaddies), that night we decided to travel together in 4/5 vehicles around 20+ of us & parked up at the boozer near the ground. The Town following (est 6-8k) was truly unbelievable coming only 8 weeks after the (unmentionable) game in November.......We gained loads of respect from City fans too, missed the 3rd tie working away but was there for the league win (1 of 6).

Shame VAR will be able to bugger us up when we get revenge for the first cup tie from 88 by scoring directly from an indirect free kick like Gidman did to get them a reply

On paper the sides are only one league apart In reality ... If you were to make this a fair contest you'd give us a 4 goal head start We couldn't meet a worse team. City are used to dealing with teams sitting deep and defending - and they batter sides far far better than Town who do this. I mean City played Spurs yesterday in a 3-2-4-1 formation! We also have a small squad and won't be able to rest players over the busy Festive Period (this will be our 8th games in 4 weeks between 9th Dec and 6th Jan). We can't put out B Team lads out in this - I mean they recently got thrashed 7-0 by Derby's reserves and DM won't put most of them on the bench even! So we'll have to put out a side of very leggy first team players with some of the B team padding out the numbers ... and all chasing shadows for 90 mins as Man City have 90% possession and move the ball as they want and pull us all over the pitch The only plus I think is City will ease down though once they have the game safe - after 30 mins - as they have a congested fixture list and need to save legs Personally I can't get excited for this. We've no chance and I've done the Etihad a few times Exactly how I feel, awful draw, couldn't have been any worse. Sad indictment on the state of the squad. Shame we can't just opt out of the cups. The 10-1 was in danger of being bettered last time we played them as a PL team and we've since regressed to the stage where we play mediocre championship teams like they're man city. We have Leicester away a few days before which will likely be another 20 percent possession game and a spanking. It's just a case of how humiliating its gonna get.

Brilliant tie for the profile / PR machine.....should help them to sell the HTAFC brand to the yanks and overseas, where you assume City have more of a following and interest.......

I’d swap your tie for our home game against Brighton Either way we’re getting hammered but at least a trip to the Etihad would be a good day out

I’d swap your tie for our home game against Brighton Either way we’re getting hammered but at least a trip to the Etihad would be a good day out exactly - I dont know what some are moaning about. City away is surely better than say Peterborough where we would play an even more weakened side and probably lose...

Fantastic draw for the club.

Looking at it cynically we couldn’t have got a better tie to show the new ownership exactly how far we are from the top of the English game. KN and team will get a close up look at the best facilities, infrastructure, organisation and players, could be really valuable as a learning experience.

I had a dawning realisation yesterday that I've just gambled £100 on us & QPR both getting knocked out, having bought train tickets for the 27th. Couldn't they just have left 4th round day blank like they used to! Those who i sometimes go away with were oohing and aahing about this a while ago, risk it and go for the cheap train tickets or dont bother as one of us might make the 4th rd, well we wont be in the 4th rd draw but QPR could possibly cause a shock v Bournemouth, the 5th rd is on a weds for some reason so the Watford game will still be going ahead.

Ill be honest, I screwed up on this one. It just didn’t occur to me that it would be the 4th round & I doubted it would be Sky, so bought train tickets for me & my lad while they were still cheap(ish). So I’ve got a vested interest in Man City getting lucky against us.

Randomly, one of my favourite Cup ties was at Oldham about 15 years ago We were having a tough season ...for a change. Apathy ruled and we had just 6004 in for a game versus Brighton and 6326 versus Millwall - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007%E2%80%9308_Huddersfield_Town_A.F.C._season#FA_CupIt was the season Hoyle took over because clearly change needed to happen We took over 4k to Oldham in the 4th Round and filled the stand behind the goal - great atmosphere in there Another FA Cup game I really enjoyed that season was Accrington away when scored two in the last 10 mins won it late and Town's away following was bigger than the home support We also beat Birmingham - then of the Premier League - at home. We were a League One side so it was a proper upset We went out to Chelsea with Collins making the tie level at half time The cup gave some respite and that cup especially was full of good memories. That has to be the most enjoyable Cup run in my time as a Town fan

Seriously though, I had thought Massive looked doomed but they appear to have improved enormously under Danny Röhl.
QPR's new boss seems to be improving things in West London (& TBF they have some very decent players) and Rovrum are about to change manager.
I think it's going to be interesting at the bottom this season.

23rd April 1984, man city got two quick penalties just before half time if i remember rightly after we'd gone 2-0 up. I remember it well. Went on the special train & the Police told us to expect the train to be attacked at Stalybridge on the way back. One kid chucked a stone at the window in the end! I can't remember if it was that one or the year after when all the double-deckers taking us to the ground from Victoria were trashed. Its a rough hole is Man City, the old Kippax at Main Road was just like the Town terrace and they parked the away coaches at the back of it too and they always got trashed. Good draw though just hope we keep them down to 5/6.

This doesn't have the look of a nil, though. I also went to the 4 nil night match in 68/69. We were belting out ‘Those Were the Days My Friend’ even when 4 nil down, Getting back to the coach was quite tricky given the seemingly murderous City fans hanging around the car park. Good job they hadn’t lost. Our coach had one whole side of windows put through as it was snaking its way through the lamplit Coronation Street style area. Some lads jumped off our coach when it came to a halt to assess the extent of the damage and they quickly came back with a ‘captured’ City fan. He was pleading to be released - in his defence he was pleading that he had earlier pretended to through something at our coach just to make us all duck for a bit of fun but hadn’t actually thrown anything. This was true, I had seen him and had ducked and he had laughed at us. Nonetheless, he was taken on our homeward journey and was not released until we got back to Huddersfield (which was quite late). I’ve sometimes wondered how he made his way back to Manchester. I don’t think anyone on our coach was seriously injured by the shattered glass, but I was combing bits out of my hair the next day. Nowadays they would probably have somehow obtained a replacement coach but then we just travelled back in the freezing coach, (it was a very cold night), surrounded by shattered glass.

Shame VAR will be able to bugger us up when we get revenge for the first cup tie from 88 by scoring directly from an indirect free kick like Gidman did to get them a reply There seemed to be a great deal of injury time, almost as if the ref was playing on until they scored. Thanks for the reminder about VAR; mustn't jump up and down when we score until all the checks are complete. Remember VAR's wavy lines for offside when Man U beat us in the Cup? It was clearly onside but didn't count. We also got away with one at Southampton two seasons later, when they had one chalked off by VAR for offside. Neither ruling in our favour had the slightest effect on the outcome of either match, but look what happened the third time we had VAR. Talk about evening itself out.
