Balker looked really good today. A classy operator. Matos has a lot to learn in terms of using the ball, but he absolutely tormented Barry Bannan all afternoon. Radulovic will need a bit of time to adapt to the pace and physicality of the Championship, but I think he'll be fine in the long run. Loved Wiles' performance, he seemed a lot more confident? The right choice of manager, plus Burgzorg to come back, and I think we could beat the drop with relative ease. Today's win doesn't make us a great (or even a good) team all of a sudden, but we'd have definitely won a lot more of our games if someone credible had been in charge. I'm maybe overplaying it, but I thought Balker looked immense.

A championship version of Van Dijk

I agree the game was not great till that 12 mins spell but for me no matter what happens now the players look like they enjoying the game not scared to make mistakes like they were under Moore, in fact just how they were under Warnock. From what I saw today most players look like a huge weight has been lifted from their shoulders in terms of playing style. Confidence is huge in any sport and todays result will have given the squad a great boost and makes you think if only we had got rid of Moore sooner how much more relaxing in the run in could have been. Its only one win sure, but under Moore I had lost hope of them ever winning again. If we go down we go down but at least we will go down fighting not boring the fans so much we just accept it.

Perhaps getting ahead of myself, but how do we fit Pearson, Balker, Helik, Lees, Nakayama into a back 3/4? Unless it's the Keighley Cannavaro RB, Yuta LB and perm 2 from 3 Bit to mention at some point Ruffels and the Ginger Cafu are due back (2026 for Turton I guess, sadly)

As bad as Sheffield Wednesday were, there is no way we would have won that 4-0 under Moore. He would have set up very differently and played for a draw. Ok, first half wasn’t great. I actually think the wind played a factor. The injuries I think actually helped in that healey wasn’t great and Wiles played very well. Sometimes teams and formations etc just seem to come together. Either way, we wouldn’t have played those forward balls or gone looking to capitalise on what we had. There was also better movement. Never going to complain about a 4-0 win.

First Town win when I've been in Australia since 2-0 at Wolves, 5 years and 10 games ago. Unbeaten in 4 this visit.
More goals against Wednesday at home in 12 minutes than 900 previously.
I see from a photo of Nicholls celebrating that the DM experiment of choosing to play 'the other way' hasn't been continued. (He never won a game that way and won 2 and drew one, so never lost playing 'the right way'. Do you think he ever knew this?)
Saw Adelaide United 0 Central Coast Mariners 4 last night. Tidy ground, 11,538 present. Home crowd very relaxed - no relegation - and an away contingent of 20. Mariners' manager is Mark Jackson, ex- MK Dons manager, who played 5 times for us under his namesake in 1998-99, including the 7-1 at Barnsley. Also played v us for Scunthorpe with Andy Butler against his namesake's team in 2003-04 - 2-6 away and 3-2 (Macca's two injury time headers) at home. Adelaide have just sold two keepers to Villa and Brighton and have a totally nesh winger, on this evidence more like our speed twins than Doku, bound for Bayern Munich. Zach Clough, still only 28, and Ryan Tunnicliffe both attended for the home side.
Well done Hudders.

Oh Forestieri!
What a warm memory singing that song, remembering going mental at Hillsborough when Danny Ward saved that penalty kick.
Beating Wednesday has to be one of the most satisfying wins in the football calendar.

That would have been 1-1 under Moore.
No Helik, No Rudoni. No problem.
Honestly thought we may loose this 1-0 when it was 0-0 and we lost Rudolovic. But Koroma - that’s our striker!! Also think their first sub took all the wind out of their sails, Ugbo was causing us problems, really don’t know why he was taken off but glad he was.
Anyway, Fuck off Wednesday! They were so confident before this game!
Now let’s get this manager appointment right!

When I heard that Helik and Rudoni were missing my heart sank (IMO our two best players) but thankfully we got the points. Good job the two 'centre forwards' departed, they look like a complete waste of money. I thought we looked awful until Pearson stooped to head in the excellent corner from Thomas; and I thought Wiles was much better than usual. But I hope everyone isn't getting carried away - as the bloke sitting next to me said half way through the first half 'I can't see this team escaping relegation'.

Just watched his post match interview, he admits it took him the first 15-20 mins to get up to speed with the English game. Seems like a good character too, I can see him and Helik being the new Heff and Schindler

Home debut and walks off the pitch like that will not endear you to Yorkshire folk, you need to be harder than that. I think he will get there but this 'tactical football in Spain' and 'physical in Scandinavia😂😂😂' is nonsense for me. (Why I'm I looking at negatives we won 4-0 FFS) But being at the game, this is exactly what we needed as a club and fanbase long may it continue UTT

Nervy performance until the goal and helped by some awful defending after it but a brilliant result. The goal difference could be huge. Matos was excellent winning the ball back all game.Wiles showed some good touches and played 2 very good passes, bit of a rest,a point to prove and feeling like he maybe had some more freedom possibly helped. Spencer did some good stuff but also some poor, though not been left footed playing on the left I think contributed to the latter.Yuta coming back should see him slot back over to right back. Shame for Healey, hopefully it’s not serious. Radulovic will come good I think,he’s shown in other games he has good movement and link up,should have laid off to wiles end of first half but probably desperate to get a goal and up and running. Can forgive it this time. Tough game next up but get the right manager in and we will win games even in this supposed tough run.

Radulovic looked so weak and slow it was untrue and Healey just looks pants (in every game I’ve seen him). Dreadful recruitment in the striker department. Matos and Balker played very well though so credit there Tbf to Healey - he wasn't playing up front again. He was playing almost in the No. 10 position to drop in as Matos was following Bannan all over the pitch. Need to await judgement on the lad until he has been played up top. Radulovic can be an asset if we use him properly. He isn't a target man and needs balls into his feet. A Yorkshire derby, relegation scrap was hardly likely to suit him. Healy looked like he want off with his groin so may be out for a while.

Bizarre scorline tbh.. Came out of knowehre.. Best player Ont pitch for me was bannan.. Quality player.. Simple passing comfortable on the ball.. Just what we don’t have.. 🍻 Not bad considering he was also the referee. Even more impressive when you consider he played most of the match in Matos' pocket

Don’t think it’s overplaying it. Looked calm, composed and very capable with the ball at his feet. Looks a great signing. Perhaps getting ahead of myself, but how do we fit Pearson, Balker, Helik, Lees, Nakayama into a back 3/4? Unless it's the Keighley Cannavaro RB, Yuta LB and perm 2 from 3 Bit to mention at some point Ruffels and the Ginger Cafu are due back (2026 for Turton I guess, sadly) Lees & Pearson have been far better recruits for us than I thought they would be & have never let us down, however, my 1st choice back 4 currently (& that can easily change with the others pushing for their places) would be: Spencer Balker Helik Nakayama Spencer as he's matured so well, even though he's only 19 still, Balker for some pace & quality on the ball, Helik as he's the best we have & Nakayama for his composure & passing. However, this window has now allowed us options all over the pitch & noone can be coasting now as our bench has gone from being filled with kids that had no hope of getting a game to genuine 1st team contenders waiting their chance for someone to drop their standards. I'm not going overboard & saying we are certainties to avoid relegation but we are in a lot better position now than we were at the end of 2023. I know I'm stating the bleeding obvious but this next managerial appointment is crucial, if we get someone who can get the best out of this squad, we'll be ok.

That was great to see a 4-0 win, first time for a long time I’d imagine.
However, we need to be careful not to get euphoric about this one. Wed gave us the 4th goal and arguably the first should have been better defended. The other 2 were sharp play from us and 2 good finishes. (although the Wed player who tossed the ball back to us for the FK for the third goal will be kicking himself)
This isn’t a pro DM post, but one swallow doesn’t make a summer, the first half was more of the same.
This wasn’t dissimilar to the home game v Blackburn, when we were on the front foot and led by pace. Maybe this is the way we need to go? Hope that the pace of our front players (inc. Burgzorg) does the job while our back line do theirs?
A great win though, and obviously huge in creating a bigger gap to one of our relegation rivals. Next week will obviously be a sterner test against a side that’s not lost in months, but who knows…. I’m sure Saintly Terrier will be hoping for the bragging rights on Mon 12th…
