Can't explain how good this tackle was. Against one of the fastest players in the league, playing on his wrong side, so having to tackle with his right foot which is unnatural in that position and to come out of defence with the ball like he did. Deserved the ovation it got at the time... Sky sports using a clip of Archie Gray making a bog standard tackle and captioning it “superstar” when this happened in the same game is genuinely incredible. Brodie Spencer was the best full back on the pitch on Saturday by some distance.

There once was a lad they called Gray. He will play for England they say. Then little old 'Town' Had his trousers down. Boy, "that lad Spencer can play!" Archie Gray is more likely than Brodie Spencer to play for England.

BBC comments from tonight.
Northern Ireland should have had a third before half time but, after the impressive Brodie Spencer had slid a ball in behind for Jamie Reid, the Stevenage man's cross was bundled wide by Marshall from close range.
I know it comes with a caveat of being against Andorra, but Brodie Spencer has been really good tonight.
With Spencer, Conor Bradley and Trai Hume, it gives Michael O'Neill a nice headache.
Thankfully, all three are pretty versatile and could very much become the future of this team.

If Reid is still at Stevenage whilst playing for NI, no reason why Spencer shouldn’t stay. Happy to wait and see though.

I bloody hope we can keep hold of him, fingers crossed. All depends what lands on his agents desk, only a top half Championship offer would entice him away you would think.......Bodes well he & MD are from straight talking Belfast, possibly Town need to up his current contract?

Where he'll play every week. He's just come from his breakthrough season in the first team, where he's played 40-odd games for the first time in his career in the SPFL and the Championship. Championship to not play would not be a step up for him, while League One every week would benefit him - especially if we can put a good offer on the table to keep him long-term.

They are going to have to do something - he's about to enter the final year of his contract, and no mention of any optional years in the press release for his previous extension.

Really don't get what the same nationality has to do with anything
It's all about the money.

Contract extended to 2026. Brilliant news.
Edit - just seen the article that we've triggered the extra years option in the existing contract. Hadn't realised that existed to be honest and thought there was a possibility we'd lose him for free (small tribunal fee) next summer

Are we counting him as a new signing...again? No, but hopefully he’ll be raring to go with a few quid extra in his back pocket…

Great to see, would have been incredibly stupid to not take the option of the extension.
Hopefully we'll be back in the championship by then and Brodie will have really kicked on.

It's a shame his breakout season ended in relegation but I like the lad and think he has a big future. Great to see we've tied him down to a longer term deal.

This should have been done the 1st day he came back to training but better late than never, any clubs that were/are interested in BS will need to stump up some serious dosh for both Towns fee & players salary......Good news for his agent too & should be a defo staying now.

Having gone through the previous press releases looking for any mention of an extra year option this is a welcome surprise.
I'd say, given the timing, this has been triggered as a last resort following an unsuccessful negotiation on a 'proper' long-term contract extension.
Hopefully he's still with us this time next year on a new, Championship contract.

That we've not been successful in renewing his contract.

I can only read this as we haven't been able to get him to sign a new contract and the extra year gives us a little bit more bargaining power if a club comes in to buy him.
