I accept we are the underdog but ‘David and Goliath’ isn’t appropriate. Maybe if it was Fleetwood vs Man City…..

He was pointing out the obvious disparity in squad value on paper and wage budgets, no problem at all with that and was very positive throughout about our squad and the fact that we are fully aiming to get the 3 points (not a 'result', but 3 points). Nobody should be getting their knickers in a twist about his David v Goliath comment if they have seen it in the context of the whole press conference.

No idea, but it's about time we snapped out of it. Shouldn’t be difficult as we are Terriers after all ! 😉

I hate the underdog bollocks as much as anyone but I think in this instance as previously mentioned it was used in the context of squads. I hope if anything what Smithers and Kev can take away is that we don’t want to see any small club, underdog rhetoric coming out of the club again.

we've still spent 38 seasons in the top flight and 43 in the 2nd tier in our 109 seasons...that's not a minnow, a small club or a 'David'

He based it on squad budgets, he said there's was worth 200 million ours 30. He wasn't referring to club size or stature. People need to relax and let him do his job, also remembering there is a language barrier. In that case he’s been very truthful and got it spot on I guess... Shortly I’m gonna take a wee run up to the shop in the motor, I’ll be in Huddersfield Town attire and will time it for when Lewis the Leeds fan next door comes home from work at Kilchoman Distillery - I’ll be saying to Lewis to ‘Go easy on Huddy Town’ on Saturday... He’s a modest and not in any way arrogant lad (probably because he’s not from Leeds even though he very much supports them)... He’ll probably tell me he’d be happy with a draw - I certainly will be - though a win will be bloody pure exquisite indeed !!! 👍 😊

The club and the manager obviously can't win with some fans. All this whining about feeling "belittled" is f**king tiresome. If André had made out that we were the "Goliath" no doubt there'd be some accusing him of having a "Billy big b*ll*cks" attitude (even though Leeds United wouldn't exist without Huddersfield Town).

It was Wagner, some fans, and the media in our promotion season. With Wagner it started off as this galvanising 'terrier spirit is when the small dog fights the big dogs' or whatever it was. The fans and media bought into that, and the narrative was compounded by us having one of the smallest budgets in the championship that season. Then Wagner arguably took it too far once we'd been promoted, repeatedly telling the world we were a small club in a big league to take the pressure off. When we almost went up again a couple of years ago, that narrative was nowhere to be seen to be fair. The new ownership seem intent on changing the remnants of that culture. Maybe today's another stage in the death of the little old Huddersfield myth, here's hoping. I think the ankle biting tiny terrier in a cage with much bigger dogs gubbins was of it's time - it worked well because it suited us perfectly in 2017 and the following year or two. But NOW we are rich beyond our wildest dreams, not afraid to spend our way to the top and shout about it whilst doing so

Managers been in not even two weeks. This David and Goliath stuff is a quick, easy motivator for the dressing room and as others have said. David won.

I blame the rebranding of the early seventies. I've never referred to Town as the Terriers and never will. Other teams are named after predatory beasts like Wolves, Tigers, Eagles and Hornets, or weapons like Gunners, Blades and Hammers, while we're named after a little yappy dog with a girlie haircut that when wet looks like a small piece of alien gristle. It could be worse, we could be named after little chickens (bantams) or in L666ds case small penises (peacocks) Or even crustaceans as in Southends "Shrimpers" . My son supports them, accident of birth and my work, but good for him, and yes the hats have a shrimp on them. Always Town to me, but nowt wrong with a Terrier, especially as Huddersfield is where Yorkies come from.

Hes trying to explain to his players that unless we put on the best performance so far this season, we will get beaten.
Even then, it might not be good enough BUT if we do lose, it might be because Leeds are a very good side this season and not the end of the world or condemned to league one if we get beat.

Leeds are a much bigger club than us..no point in denying that, though he probably was thinking of the squad value when he made that comment. What did he say,,£30m compared to £200m ? It is a bit David and Goliath when you look at it like that.
I like that we're the size of club we are...small enough to have that 'family' feel to it, a local club, where just about all the fans live or were born within a few miles of the ground...but big enough that we can still get somewhere if enough things go well.

That quote doesn't play on being the underdog at all- "it doesn't matter how big you are" literally discards the underdog mentality. What killed us wasn't the head coach trying to motivate... it was the naivety and lack of experience in the boardroom and behind the scenes, leading to money being spaffed up the wall on shite like Diakhaby and Mbenza, and on mercenaries like Pritchard and Kongolo.
