I have spent nearly 40 years stood/sat at Town matches with Mel chuntering in my earhole and I am in total shock that the Leeds match was the last time. He and my Dad worked together at David Brown's and we were football family. I've seen Paul grow up to be as Town mad as his Dad, and his grandkids, too. Mel was a great friend to my Dad especially when he was ill and I get some comfort from thinking of them both back together moaning about Town again!
Paul; you, Charlie and Frankie are a credit to your Dad and his passion for Town. I can't believe he's gone, but I know he lives on in you all xx

I’m devastated to share that my Dad passed away yesterday evening, suddenly and unexpectedly. He posted on here as Melc (no he wasn’t a Spice Girl - it was short for Melvyn Coates) He’d just finished decorating the living room ahead of looking forward to watching Town at Cardiff but unfortunately that did not happen. Having just turned 70 he’s seen many highs and lows of following Town and I have him to blame for giving me the Town bug and for me passing it on to my lads! And I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Didn’t expect coming away from the Leeds game on Saturday that that would be my last game with my Dad. Only on Tuesday night he was messaging me worrying that we’d be dropping into the bottom 3!! Love You Dad - can’t believe you’ve gone 💔 Apologies for sharing with a forum of strangers - just know he spent hours on here each day so just felt appropriate! Paul So sorry to hear. Condolences to you and your family

Sincere condolences from me too. Melc was a long time poster and Town through and through. It will be a tough few months ahead but time is a great healer. Take care and best wishes. UTT.

So sorry to hear that. I never had the fortune of attending with my dad as he was more of an armchair fan. Look back and smile at the happy memories you shared. He has passed something to you you had a common bond with. I miss my dad even though he passed away 15 years ago. I still have happy memories though and know he's still in my heart. God bless you and your dad. He will always be with you each and every match and I'm sure he will be proud of you x
