I’m devastated to share that my Dad passed away yesterday evening, suddenly and unexpectedly. He posted on here as Melc (no he wasn’t a Spice Girl - it was short for Melvyn Coates) He’d just finished decorating the living room ahead of looking forward to watching Town at Cardiff but unfortunately that did not happen. Having just turned 70 he’s seen many highs and lows of following Town and I have him to blame for giving me the Town bug and for me passing it on to my lads! And I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Didn’t expect coming away from the Leeds game on Saturday that that would be my last game with my Dad. Only on Tuesday night he was messaging me worrying that we’d be dropping into the bottom 3!! Love You Dad - can’t believe you’ve gone 💔 Apologies for sharing with a forum of strangers - just know he spent hours on here each day so just felt appropriate! Paul |

He was a good poster and his contribution to this forum are a loss for us as an online Town fan community.
Obviously nothing like they will be for you as his son. My dearest condolence's to you and your family.
Didn't know him in 'real life' only his online persona, did not expect him to be as old as 70. Funny how you build up a picture of a forum member in your head.

I'm sorry to hear your news and it's brought a tear to my eyes. I'm sure he will have thought the world of you and your deep connection with town. I'm about the same age as your dad and my lad has come with me since he was around 5 and never missed. When he was younger I often said I'd understand if he wanted to go with his mates but he said no dad I want to come with you. Your dad would have been so very proud of you, as Yorkshire men we don't show our feelings and I don't normally speak like this but the bond between father and son and Huddersfield town is unbreakable RIP to your dad and condolences to your family.

So sorry for your loss.
How much he'll be missed on here as a poster is nothing compared to the loss felt by those who knew and loved him, but I hope it is at least some comfort to know that his contribution will be missed here too.
