You read through this thread and we don’t half come across as either a bunch of entitled pricks or the most miserable set of tosser ever.
Do you not think Dave (and the club) know being at the bottom is depressing. Do you not think Dave (and the club) know it’s hard to get excited when we’ve seen more of our fair share of disappointment over the last 15 years.
We’re all quick to lay the blame. Cartwrights signings. Hogg too old. Chelsea dictating playing time. Kevin being a yank. Edward’s being half a yank. No one being good enough as they don’t have championship experience either as players, managers, owners, chief execs. It’s a load of codswallop. “Experienced managers average 1.18 pts per game whereas as “first timers” average 1.38. So let’s put that bollocks to bed shall we.
The bottom line is we’ve not been good enough. On and off the field. We’ve not been good enough as fans either. This from Dave is an attempt to find out how we can try make a difference in the last couple of home games. And yes it may sound desperate but that’s the situation we’re in. Every 0.01% makes a difference. And we have the opportunity to make that difference. To paraphrase…..
I don’t know what to say really. 2 Home games of the biggest battle of our professional lives. Either we heal as a team, or we’re going to crumble, inch by inch, play by play, til we’re finished.
We’re in hell right now, gentlemen, believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb out of hell, one inch at a time.
You find out life’s this game of inches. So is football because in either game, life or football, the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half a step too late or too early and you don’t quite make it. One half second, too slow, too fast, you don’t quite catch it. The inches we need are everywhere around us. They’re in every break of the game, every minute, every second
With our team, we have to fight for that inch. On this team, we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch because we know when we add up all those inches, that’s going to make the f**king difference between winning and losing, between living and dying.
I’ll tell you this, in any fight, it’s the guy who’s willing to die, who’s going to win that inch. And I know if I’m going to have any life anymore, it’s because I’m still willing to fight and die for that inch because that’s what living is, the six inches in front of your face. Now I can’t make you do it. You got to look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes.
Now I think you’re going to see a guy who will go that inch with you. You’re going to see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team because he knows when it comes down to it, you’re going to do the same for him. That’s a team, gentlemen. And either we heal now as a team or we will die as individuals. That’s football, guys. That’s all it is. Now, what are WE going to do?
Rant over….

The fact it’s taken somebody who is incredibly close to the club to come on DATM to ask just goes to show how badly this club is run. People say the club has a bright future? To not be able to create basic marketing offers/scenarios is frightening. How can a self made millionaire/billionaire not think of this stuff? Do you actually think any of what you have just said is sensible? Are you 12 years old? Na pretty successful middle aged man to be fair. Hope you’re well joey.

Sorry it was out of order really my post. Just tired of people moaning about things that are meant with good intentions. The guy just asked a question. Someone with very close connections to the club, asking for a bit of input, getting us involved a little. Theres not really any need to for the sniping to be fair, that’s all I meant.

We’re all very emotional at the moment because it’s just been years of relegation battles bar a couple. It does take it’s stress not matter what anybody says. Be just nice to see the club have this sort of plan in place without having to ask. Maybe that will come with time, just feel it’s running out on an hourly basis currently.

Seems to me Dave has more fight in him than most of this team right now. Maybe that’s because Dave and the owner are here long-term whilst the squad (hopefully) are marched through the exit door this Summer. The only problem there is they’ll know it and a fight to stay up or getting injured isn’t their idea of fun.

Does the post at the head of this page refer to the fans, or the Players who are responsible for the position we are in {whilst still collecting their undeserved wages}

We’ve not been good enough as fans either Id absolutely dispute this statement. Id say as a fan base since we came down from the Premier League we've been incredibly patient ans understanding as fan base. Not including this season, since we got relegated from the Premier League we've - Finishes 18th, 20th, 3rd, 18th - Been knocked out of the FA Cup in the first round we've entered 3 out of the 4 seasons - Been knocked out of the League Cup in first round we've entered in 3 out of the 4 seasons - Had a minus goal difference in 3 out of the last 4 seasons - Had 3 separate owners of the club - Had 12 different managers in charge of the squad - Seen 100s of millions on pounds wasted on players who were, on the whole absolutely shite Yet in these seasons we've averaged 18k, 17.5k,and 19.k attendances. We've heard very little in way of disgruntledness from the stands and on the whole I think the atmosphere has generally been fairly decent. The Club have been very lucky so many have stuck with it for so long as many other clubs would have suffered dogs abuse going through what we have over the past 5 seasons. To call the fans out for not being good enough os just wrong IMO.

Smacks of desperation to me. Smacks of you never having anything positive to say. Smacks of you conveniently ignoring anything positive I do say. I've already said the club have improved off the pitch, but that doesn't suit your agenda, does it?

Don't the club employ people to think of schemes and ways of getting more fans through the door? The fact it’s taken somebody who is incredibly close to the club to come on DATM to ask just goes to show how badly this club is run. People say the club has a bright future? Personally as someone mentioned earlier packing the place full of school kids is not the answer in the short term. How about contacting those who have in the past had a ST and offer them a freebie ? Loads of regulars have found other things to do I feel, including myself. Offering every ST holder who turns up a free pie n a pint would be a nice gesture as well (loads don't go despite paying)reward the loyal. Anyone who can prove they're unemployed, let them in for nowt. I'm away most weekends loving life on the east coast so I wouldn't take up any offers I'm afraid. I still love them from a distance though UTT

I thought this - and initially the post felt a bit weird - but then we have insisted that the club should've listened to us on the squad last summer, and the hiring / firing of Moore, so perhaps we can't complain that they're actually asking for advice. Smacks of desperation to me. Smacks of the chairman and Dave trying to do everything within their power to stay in the league. It certainly ain't gonna do any harm! I welcome the interaction personally. Companies pay good money to canvas their customer base. I think they'd be daft not to use datm!

Not sure how that changes going forward. Perhaps we fans, as a whole, have to become proactive from kick off, rather than reactive. Maybe that's what bigtruck meant as "not good enough".

It’s a wonderfully symbiotic relationship.
Sadly, it’s hard to euphorically start a conga when you’re watching your entire midfield unable to pass the ball 5 yards to a fellow Town player.
Equally, it’s hard for a player to try express themself when they could hear a pin drop and the slightest error brings a torrent of abuse.
I don’t know what the answer is, but one will not elevate itself without the other.
