Looking forward to watching this but that sums up 90% of footballers on Under the Cosh. Most players they interview only care about their wage, days off and drinking. We played against Malone last week, really thin legs for a footballer. Did he have his socks pulled up to his shorts too? Pippy Longstocking. One of the least likeable players (and fucking hell, we've had plenty over the last few years) ever to pull on the famous blue and white shirt.

Thought the Simon Ferry one was quite funny about DiCanio.
Malone seems to be a bit of a prick. If you work in Huddersfield then don't decide to live in Harrogate then moan about it when you're getting paid a ridiculous amount of money. It was only for 10 months as well and probably set him up for life with wages and bonuses.

Dean Hoyle has spoken before that he changed the bonus scheme in Prem year 2 and the players didnt like it and he puts their attitude down to why they basically packed up and gave up round about December time.
Think Hoyle's incentive was that they had to get more points or a better place than year 1 and would be heavily rewarded, rather than it being such a lucrative bonus scheme per point.

Imagine staying in bed until 11 and then complaining about the training regime not allowing you to see your kids enough.

I do really enjoy the UTC podcast, but the more I listen the more I realise footballers are in their own selfish bubble, detached from reality and will blame absolutely everyone else before taking responsibility.
When there’s no one left to blame, they’ll blame the fans. I think we’re starting to see that shine through in our own circumstances.

When there’s no one left to blame, they’ll blame the fans. I think we’re starting to see that shine through in our own circumstances. Most have spent their lives being told how great they are and having their egos fluffed. They reach adulthood and instead of growing up spend the next 15+ years continuing to be treated like children - do this, do that, eat this, be here at this time, wear this, say that…it really is no wonder plenty of them are complete tossers with no grounding in reality.

The money paid to players is insane. You can't blame players for taking it though. Even players like Malone, who was crap can earn big coin.

Do all lower end prem clubs pay these insane bonuses ? It's economic madness and gives me yet another reason to dislike modern day football

For me this merely supports my long held view that I didn't want more money put into the club but I did want the money we had used more wisely.
Pounds for points as an incentive seems to be sensible but it just depends on what the basic pay was.
It doesn't matter now but surely another lesson learned? That assumes that we are fortunate enough to have the problem in the future.

He was there until 11o’clock in the afternoon apparently. Thats a long afternoon 😂
I generally don’t prescribe to the common notion of footballers are thick that is portrayed by parts of the media etc as some quite clearly are not.
However mr John “ I can’t say two words without one of them being the F word” Parkin and mr Scott “11 o’clock in the afternoon” Malone make it increasingly difficult to believe 😂

Best episode by a mile is Kevin Lynch the ex ref. Also highly recommend Mark Crossley and Paddy Kennys episodes. Jeff Winter and Glen Little as well. Little tells some great Stan Ternent stories. Recommend the Si Ferry one as well. Had to stop a few times to laugh whilst running!

I did meet Scott very recently and when I mentioned I supported Huddersfield he swiftly replied that he didn’t enjoy his time at the club! I also met Connor Mahoney and when I said Huddersfield were playing Millwall he replied I hope Millwall fcuking batter them!!! Luckily it didn’t come true!

Just seen a clip on Facebook of Scott Malone on Under The Cosh. Assume the full episode will be out soon He was talking about the bonus system that Town had for that first season in the premier league. At the start of the season players were getting £3k each per point regardless of whether they came on or not and by the end of the season it was £7k per point. He also got £800k for staying up. No wonder we burnt through all the money so quick although you could argue it was the only way that squad were going to stay up. He doesn't speak highly of Wagner at all Didn't all the players and staff get a million pound bonus for us getting promotion to the Premiership. No, that’s ludicrous. Squad of 25 plus X staff… x £1m plus ERs add ons ? Give your head a wobble ! The figure I’m told under Hoyle for non football staff was 30% ATB.

This type of interview and elaboration on certain areas in this manner irritate me.
He’s on complaining about training times yet pocketed all that brass from his time at the club, likely including a slice of a £5m transfer fee.
Yet there will have been many, many people paying to watch the team, including him, who would have been struggling to survive on maybe £15-20k a year with kids, bills, a mortgage. Yet here he is making a joke of earning £9k for being in a football matchday squad that wins a game.
Scott Malone you are a Grade A Prick.

It’s all money. Fans celebrate a win, players celebrate a win bonus.
I think the only player I liked when interviewed was Malcolm Christie.

As much as he’s a prick, why would we think footballers would be any different. Of course it’s all about the money. In his first season Wagner didn’t know what the bonus scheme was and when he found said if he’d have known we’d have finished mid table. It’s all about the money and always has been. The difference is in days gone by, the win bonus was what made your wage attractive. Now players have to almost double their wages for it to be a successful motivational tool and make nearly as much again with image rights etc.
When I played Rugby you got £100 for playing that went to £500 for winning and down to £50 if we got beat by a certain number of points. We finished 2nd. Following season we got a flat £350. Finished 8th. 🤷🏼♂️

I agree that Christie (and others) comes across well and a lot better than others but I take a lot of what they say with a pint of salt as most things are exaggerated and said to make themselves look better. He was probably very different at the time when he was a young footballer.
