Shows how disconnected these players are. He earned all that money and then moans about doing a few training sessions and getting home at 7. What a numpty

This type of interview and elaboration on certain areas in this manner irritate me. He’s on complaining about training times yet pocketed all that brass from his time at the club, likely including a slice of a £5m transfer fee. Yet there will have been many, many people paying to watch the team, including him, who would have been struggling to survive on maybe £15-20k a year with kids, bills, a mortgage. Yet here he is making a joke of earning £9k for being in a football matchday squad that wins a game. Scott Malone you are a Grade A Prick. Irritating is a good way to describe this. Fans reading this when some will be dreading the SC price increase in case they can’t afford to attend next season. These people need to think before they speak.

As much as he’s a prick, why would we think footballers would be any different. Of course it’s all about the money. In his first season Wagner didn’t know what the bonus scheme was and when he found said if he’d have known we’d have finished mid table. It’s all about the money and always has been. The difference is in days gone by, the win bonus was what made your wage attractive. Now players have to almost double their wages for it to be a successful motivational tool and make nearly as much again with image rights etc. When I played Rugby you got £100 for playing that went to £500 for winning and down to £50 if we got beat by a certain number of points. We finished 2nd. Following season we got a flat £350. Finished 8th. 🤷🏼♂️ I don't care how much he was offered,we were a club desperately trying to stay in the Premier league,I just take offence to the prick spouting on about it trying to be entertaining and a bit of a comedian too,he comes across as a right wanker tbh

I did meet Scott very recently and when I mentioned I supported Huddersfield he swiftly replied that he didn’t enjoy his time at the club! I also met Connor Mahoney and when I said Huddersfield were playing Millwall he replied I hope Millwall fcuking batter them!!! Luckily it didn’t come true! I had to Google Connor Mahoney, never heard of him. Didn’t realise he was on our books

The majority of young players at academies get spat out at some point and never realise their boyhood dreams.
It appears that the minority who do make it soon take it all for granted and are mostly motivated by money.
What a dreadful system. It's obscene

Best episode by a mile is Kevin Lynch the ex ref. Also highly recommend Mark Crossley and Paddy Kennys episodes. I was going to post about the Kevin Lynch episode - it is available without subscription and is one of the funniest football podcasts I have ever heard (the story about “The Rochdale Pie Man” still makes me chuckle). Like you say the Mark Crossley and Paddy Kenny episodes are good and whilst as others have said there is a laddish, drinking banter than runs through the series - generally they are worth a listen.

Would have been a lot cheaper continuing to give the players a week off during the international breaks. Under NW we won both games either side amassing 12 points (Mar 23/Sep 23), under DM/AB (Oct/Nov 23 & Mar 24) 6 points from a possible 18......Whoever decided to scrap it should foot the bill, was it KN or MC?

What highlighted the ridiculousness and obscenity was at first he couldn't actually remember whether it was £3k a win or £3k a point

What highlighted the ridiculousness and obscenity was at first he couldn't actually remember whether it was £3k a win or £3k a point And when you actually see some of the win bonuses out there, it's nothing. Basic wages are just that. Then there's the appearance bonuses, loyalty bonuses, goal bonuses, league position bonuses, competition bonuses... A basic wage is just that. A player might be on £30,000 per week. Then they have a £12,000 appearance bonus for starting a game. They score - another £10,000. So that £30,000 a week becomes £52,000. No matter that they lost 3-1. They then finish 14th - another £250,000 bonus. All in all, average weekly wage of nearer to £40,000 despite poor results and being out of the team for long spells. Our £3,000 per point scheme might be the discussion now, but we're a long way from the only club to have a stupid scheme that distorts the basic wage.

I listened to the whole thing (on Patreon) and it’s a good listen. He didn’t like the amount of training they did. Moaned about the fact he was getting home at 7 yet the silly cun+ chose to live in Harrogate. Quite happy to sign a contract with handsome bonus’s but not happy to work for it. A few players weren’t and he talked about how the German guys couldn’t understand why some didn’t like it. Whilst I’ve seen worse than Malone at town, the way he spoke on the podcast just kind of sums up everything we’ve got wrong since that first PL season. We’ve signed a lot of players with rank, bad, unprofessional attitudes who have very little if no care what so ever for the Football Club. And it’s still costing us dearly. Agreed. It might be why trying to keep AB (irrespective) of what league were in could be a solid foundation to bring in players with work ethic required. We know that Warnock did the opposite. Shortened sessions, less sessions etc enabling players that may be somewhat similar to Malones way of thinking. Granted we've had various coaches since Wagner. But, fittest I had seen us was Corberans team, and you knew they grafted. Mark Fotheringham (as much as a bellend he was) alluded to it, Moores backroom team had players sitting in media rooms watching footage more than on the grass. That German era of professionalism that we had was unbelievable. Would love for us to get back to those levels.

Useless player and a terrible attitude.
I have a colleague who's a Millwall fan and he says that nobody liked him there either.

If you ever think to question why a player would stay at a club not playing than moving to another club for game time, I think this interview gives a big insight into some reasons.

The same fans who want better players on more money and are willing to pay more for their season tickets to get this are slagging off Scott Malone and the money he was on. I say good luck to the lad, if town are stupid enough to offer him that deal then why would you turn it down?

Hang on
the blokes a bellend quite obviously, but not sure why folk are pissing themselves over the bonus'
"wages should be performance based" is what every fan says, he might not have done much personally but its a squad game and the squad acheived its remit. players like him can be very thankful to the likes of aaron mooy, but you want the squad to be all on the same page. it's the big money signings in the second season that fucked us, i've no problem with the money any of them got in the first season to be quite honest..... even PRITCHARD
PL is big money and them getting cash for points still will have likely had the squad on less than the 4 teams below us
i would guess its a bit more nuanced than he's suggesting in how the bonuses were distributed across a season

The lad has ability to be fair, but comes across as a Weapons Grade arsehole. Came here on a free transfer and we still overpaid.

In case anyone doesn't realise, the reason he was moaning about being on the grass at 3pm was because it was something Wagner brought in to replicate the time we'd actually be playing on a Saturday. Previously they'd have finished training by early afternoon. This was something that had affected Andy Booth in that on a normal training day, he'd be taking a nap at 3pm, then his body got used to that sleep pattern and it affected him on match days.
After the Palace game that we won 3-0, we stayed behind and went to greet the players after they'd changed and were about to board the coach. Was with my wife who speaks fluent French (amongst other languages) and we and a few others were having a brief chat with Steve Mounie who seemed like a nice guy, he said he was trying to speak only English not French though, as was trying to learn it better.
Most of the players were obviously very happy after the result and came and chatted with the fans and signed autographs, but when Malone appeared he refused to engage or acknowledge the Town fans at all, and went straight onto the coach. If I'd known about this bonus scheme, I'd have asked him why he was being such a miserable bugger when he'd just got £9k in his pocket for sitting on his arse all afternoon.

I feel he was one of the good guys out of all those Premier League signings and I've got the upmost respect for him that he stayed here in the Championship and openly said that he didn't want to leave when he was transferred. We never ever played to the bloke's strengths, and he was far better than that other waste of space Depoitre.

He was an absolute disgrace during that period where he came in for three games when Mounie was suspended. He was unfit, and just couldn't be arsed. He missed an absolute gobber at Bournemouth that my Grandma (who is blind) would have scored. Then did the usual trick of slagging us off when he'd left. He was shite.
