I'll be back for my 4 to 6 games a year. Couldn't give it up even if I tried. 450 mile round trip for me( to be fair I come for the weekend these days, Thursday - Sunday) Always say to my dad, he's 91 and hasn't been for years, it would have been far less painful and probably cheaper if he'd taught me to play golf at an early age🥴🥴

I only do what you do now, at less than half the distance. I simply don't do nights, or even winter games when it's dark, and no, there's nowt wrong with my driving, I just don't like it.

I've stood among a crowd of 49000 plus and less than 2000 watching Town, seen us win at Wembley and hold our own against football's elite. I've witnessed us come back from 4- 0 down at Bury, and both win and lose there 6-0. My grandfather, father were supporters, as is my sister, son and grandson (though he doesn't know that yet). Thirty years a fan at the Old Leeds Road, and now 30 at the new, I've witnessed the ups downs, highs and lows, the elation and agonies. Through all this, Huddersfield Town are my club, and always will be.

Hope the club and the man who claims he is only here to learn is taking note of this. Emotional response maybe, but it's been a long time coming.

I still have family locally (Birstall) what with my mum (101 in a few months), my sister and my best friend in Harrogate, so THEY are the reasons why I’ll continue to coincide my trips back home with when HTAFC happen to be playing at home, but I’ll be 70 in September and there will come a time when I won’t make that 450 mile round trip anymore. Unless things change drastically for the better at HTAFC, then that time may not be too far off.
Over to you Kevin Nagle et al.

I think you do take stock as you get older, especially if there's a significant amount of travel involved. I was driving from Nottm but last couple of seasons found I was getting up less and less often despite having a SC. Coincidentally I was also in same section as Bassingham and Walton. Mum used to be there too, she and dad were ST holders from the day the stadium opened. Dad passed away in 2016 but mum carried on until this season. She now comes occasionally with my brother but now sits in Kilner. She was there today but doubt she will do many if we go down, she's in her 80s now and I turned 60 last weekend. Time rolls on. Moving to Torquay wiped out any hope of me realistically making it to JSS so quit my SC this season. Went to Plymouth first game (we lost!) and if we go down I'd probably go to see us at Exeter but that would probably be it other than the odd iFollow equivalent if not daft money. More than a tenner and I'd probably not bother.

“Me done” pathetic attention seeking thread. We’re all upset and pissed off but come on. "Come on" what? I will not be renewing. I've had enough of driving up and down for two hours at a time when the players don't put in the effort that I do to get there. I've been doing it now for 45 years - how long have you been doing exactly the same? I'm not attention seeking; I'm simply agreeing with a like-minded fan who has decided that enough is enough. I'll follow Town's results from afar from next season, perhaps popping up for the odd game to meet up with friends that I have made through football. Is that ok? As I’m not even 45 years old obviously not as long as you, but when I’m your age, probably longer. Don’t moan about driving long distances, nobody asked you to commute from wherever you come from so don’t play the martyr. Enjoy watching from a far you won’t be missed. It’s shit , it’s disappointing but we’ll carry on.

I’ll be honest, I’m in awe of these fans who travel in from afar. I struggle to motivate myself from Brighouse, yet these lads do it week in, week out. Total respect.

Best thing I did was not renew a couple of years ago. Hoyle destroyed all my enthusiasm and I wasn’t prepared to keep shelling out every week not to be entertained. I’m tired of football clubs expecting people to keep going because they are fans. Any other business would be fucked if they provided the entertainment we have done, but football clubs know they have all these folk who will go even if you lost 8 nil every week. Players taking home more money a week than people earn in a year and can’t give everything for 90 mins. We get taken for granted and Kev will be in for a shock when attendances drop below 10k

Kudos to the OP and others of our generation commenting on here for supporting for as long as they have, through thick and thin. After 54 years of following Town, I've never been more disillusioned with what's going on so I understand. It's disrespectful for anyone to suggest that there's attention-seeking going on ! These are people that have cared deeply but have had enough.

I've watched Town since the early 70's. Witnessed the ups and downs of the roller coaster ride that is Huddersfield Town. Visited both Wembleys to watch them in the Autoglass (Swansea ironically) and every play off including Old Trafford and Cardiff. Travelled the country for away games in all divisions. In all those years I saw a team that generally gave their best. Today was not the case. Will I be there next season? Probably, I'm a Town fan but I don't begrudge anyone who feels they've had enough. We'll come good again.

1pm pre match in the pub , I was full of hope . Beat Swansea , beat Birmingham , we're almost there . 2-0 down , I'd had enough and left the stadium to get home and off to work to do a 12 HR night shift . "It's only a game FFS" was all I got off my non football supporting workmates . My Leeds supporting mate arrived and fearing the worst he said "It's shit mate in't it , onwards and upwards mate and it's not over yet , you can still stop up" That's football togetherness for you , he could obviously feel my pain . "Cheers mate , and I hope you get the automatic place you deserve" I replied. So , onwards and upwards then it is , Birmingham at home , Ipswich away , maybe Barrow away next season . I'll be there ,it's truly in your blood... By the way , I hope Leeds get a right fucking tonking Monday night , and get beat 6-0 in the playoff final.. UTFT

I’ve had a good run but reckon next week will be my last game for some time. I almost certainly won’t be renewing next season. We’re awful to watch (the entertainment value is almost zero), we hardly ever win and that’s before you factor in the whole play-acting, time wasting and appalling officials we have 4 out of every 5 games. The only part I enjoy is the pre-match pint. Time for a break and re-set for me probably, like many others I’m guessing.

In all my years here on DATM I’ve always found Towner47 a fair and reasonable poster and I’m certainly not going to criticise him for saying he’s “done” with Town. I don’t know Towner47 personally and don’t know where he lives but I wish him all the best and I respect his feelings at the moment. I doubt he’ll have taken his decision lightly. The hierarchy at Town ought to be very concerned that long term supporters like Towner47 and Bassingham (who I do know personally and sit with at games) feel the way they do, but I fear this is not just a Huddersfield Town thing but a feeling about how football in general is nowadays and how different it is to the game we used to know and love. Brilliant post, and the last paragraph sums up exactly how I feel about football (and RL & cricket)

Like a daft sod I’ll be renewing. I am disillusioned with the upper tiers of football and the big money clubs. I wouldn’t mind a couple of years in the quieter leagues with harder working players and friendly away days.
Only thing I ask for at the club is Kev and co to pack in the PR, hype and big talk on ambitions. It’s hard to listen to and swallow. Start being a realist and use the words we will try rather than we will. No one enjoys seeing nothing happening of substance and someone constantly talking everything up.
Some superb fans to talk to yesterday in the ground and leaving the ground. A good lot we are

Some great posts on here citing the state of modern football. Over hyped and over priced is what it is… Bravo to those that have spent £k’s over the years on long distance travel just to see home games. I hope football rights itself and we have a new generation of some of the posters on here. 👏👏👏 A lot of the players of today are over paid prima Donnas they strut around like they are film stars, get off the team bus with their I pads and wearing their 800 quid earphones, the game is shite now ruined by greed and TV.

Also are you gonna tell the bloke who called me a “disgusting human” to wind his neck in? As you seem to think you’re running the show! Is that really called for? I simply pointed out , if you don’t wanna come to games anymore then don’t, why do we all need to know!

You have to respect his decision even if you dont agree with it. This is a statement that needs relaying to all at HTFC and the playing staff (Not that they will give a shit) I find it so very sad

It's impossible to give up on this club
Once the club is in your veins then that's it..a life sentence!..literally
Yes you might stop attending games,,but on a Saturday morning you will still have that little bit of anxiety and wondering if you are going to be happy come 5pm....and at 3pm when your in the shopping center with the missus you will have an unstoppable urge to keep looking at your phone to see the latest scores
It's literally like having a curse put on you!!
The only way you escape Huddersfield Town is death!!

You'll be back, it hurts and we all feel shit tonight but football changes very quickly. Hell, it may even change next weekend! My Dad gave up his season ticket at the age of 93, he'd have missed the Schindler penalty in the play off final if he had given up at 77!! I am not renewing for the first time since I nought a season ticket Enough is enough Yes, we get it.
