I know the post above will be jumped on if the expected happens. But we’ve been here before. I think relegation from the PL was inevitable for a club like Town. That’s not me playing us down, it’s the fact that the PL controls the narrative, and within that division there are clubs that drive things in their favour. You have to be in a very select club or rinse £m’s down the drain in order to even be considered worthy of being in their presence. My views on the PL are probably well known on here anyway. I’m guessing here, but the last time we were relegated to the third division (or whatever it was known as back then), was in the days without ubiquitous social media. Relegation and negativity is simply amplified nowadays, hence you get the stuff on here that would have died down much earlier pre-internet and SM. We’ve been here before, we’ll live, we’ll be fucked off and disappointed, but many will be back next season after the immediate emotions have drained away. Of course we’ll lose a few who won’t be able to cope with L1 football, but they’ll still be watching on with the same passion and trepidation as ever. One last hurrah this Saturday, and see if that gives us the opportunity for another last hurrah the week after. But we’ll be reet, and whatever this is that’s planned, I hope supporters will see it as genuine and not attempt to divert from a truly crap season. We’ve had plenty of crap seasons over the years, and that’s what makes the outliers that much more enjoyable, and where Town are concerned, generally unexpected. UTT!!! You'll like this www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2024/apr/23/for-sheffield-united-and-co-the-premier-league-brings-a-unique-brew-of-miseryIt's spot on. That is a fantastic article, thanks for sharing

All tickets should be £1 for the Birmingham game why haven't we done this If we get relegated on Saturday it will be horrific I remember when Brum relegated us in 2001 and they absolutely revelled in it singing "We'll meet again" and the rest. They will probably spend the match baiting Town fans if its going there way Throw in the bad feeling in the Town fanbase already and it's all the hallmarks of a match you wouldn't want new fans or young kids to experience. I went to the Peterborough play off match at Leeds Road when I was about 12 and there was literally a full blown riot at full time; Riot Horses, dogs, riot police using batons on the pitch and the rest. That was the early 90s and times change but it stayed with me and in this high stakes matches tension is high. I've seen worse violence once as a Town fan which away at Hull about 20 years ago (another high stakes game) We also know the risk of filling the ground with casual fans after what happened also against Peterborough at Old Trafford - where most fans saw that poor bloke getting the shit kicked of him in the stand by the "fans" that ended up in jail. Or at the very least everyone saw 1000's of Believe shirts being thrown towards the pitch Put it this way if I was in charge of Policing on Saturday I'd plan for the worse and hope for the best Personally I'm not sure selling out the ground is the best idea. It's up to the hardcore fans to be there and hopefully create the best atmosphere IMO

There is literally no aspect of Saturday that would make it an appealing day out.
The team, our form, the atmosphere, large away following, prospect of relegation, prospect of trouble…
Good luck to anyone trying to sell it. Last week needed a call to arms, this week is a simple acceptance.

He'd got somehow cut off was trying to peg it into the East Terrance and the German Shepherd was let off it's lead and had him within 5 seconds! Meanwhile there were Town fans - inc my Dad - arguing in the East Terrace as well. Not fighting or offering each other out but emotions ran very high that night. Not great I will be there on Saturday but my advice to all is that there will be some who can't take us going down and if they're coked up and emotions run high best to walk away when people are talking shite or abusing everyone and everything I'm almost certainly wrong (hope I am) but I've seen enough "big" Town games to know when it's a 10 out of 10 on the "this could go very nasty" gauge.

Haha I was 8 and that was my first season. I have exactly the same vivid memories of the end of that game as you. Unless we win its definitely going to get ugly on Saturday. I think Town fans have taken kicking after kicking remarkably well but Saturday was the straw that broke the camels back and now people have years of pent up anger ready to vent. It could barely be against a worse side. A club who have twice celebrated/goaded in this ground. The only saving grace is they will no longer have the entire 4k away end.

Thanks for sharing that. I don’t read any or many match reports any more. That report felt really old school, by a proper football journalist describing the game (with some great old school scribing), not the reports today, which seem to talk around the game as opposed to about it. Probably because it was one of the only mediums available back then. The other thing is that footnote about the attendance, our biggest since the SECOND REPLAY with Man C. There won’t be any of that drama in the FA Cup any more, thanks to the likes of Man C and their bastard owners… I was working away for this game, not too far from P’boro, so had managed to get tickets to the away leg. We were late back for this game, so I missed getting there, driving on Leeds Rd as the game was in the second half. Expectations were understandably high after the 2-2 draw and our general belief that we should have closed off the contest at home. It must have also been the case that there wasn’t a huge time lag between the 2 games? Both were evening ko’s, but I can’t remember which days? Simpler days…

At the risk of not sounding super positive (apologies in advance) is it just me or is the wheels of promoting the weekend fixture totally silent from the marketing department? Is it: - early white flag ? - saving it till Thursday then ramp it up? - or is it let the talking be done on the pitch for this one? - or are they expecting total toxic from KO (maybe not the best choice of words) from home fans so ain’t bothering Just seems very on the back of “let’s pack the JSS for these two games!” ….. yes, Swansea was awful. Yes, certain players clearly ain’t bothered, but the fat lady is only warming up…..she ain’t sang yet. It could just be a magical day all round…….thats me trying to be super positive again. There’s one thing imminent that will be announced, something we started planning shortly after KN bought the club. My guess is, regardless of what’s announced there will be some (maybe many) not too enthralled, but nothing means more to him than the supporters, so no reason not to follow through with a small token of appreciation, regardless of the future holds over the next two weeks. Take care….. shares in the club?

A full week of rallying calls from players and club staff asking fans to do our bit (like we haven't been all season anyways) to then put in a performance like we did and for a 4-0 defeat to follow was the breaking point for many. If the amount of empty seats at the final whistle weren't enough to tell you that, the 'you're not fit to wear the shirts' chants should have confirmed it. That result on Saturday was bad in terms of this season, but it could have much more severe ramifications long term which won't be changed by a free pint or a free t-shirt or whatever other gimmick you have up your sleeve.

Assumed it will be an announcement about the Academy re-opening. I don't know. He said ''a small token of appreciation'' so assumed it would be something more imminently affecting fans rather than the Academy (which is long-term and a huge investement)
