If you are terrible in taking corners

The Numbers A user made a serious analysis with algorithms to test if corner kicks can significantly increase the chance for scoring a goal or not. To test this, he examined 134 English Premier League (EPL) matches from the 2010/11 season, encompassing 1,434 corners. The results were eye-opening for many football fans: Only 20% of corners led to a shot on goal. A mere 10% of these shots resulted in a goal. In essence, a minuscule 2% of corners led to a goal. Last season a team in the Championship averaged 5.2 corners per game. That's 236 per season. Teams score more than 4.7 goals per season from corners. We score significantly more due to a) delivery and b) presence in the box. I'm also sceptical of the research above. Does it take into account the second ball? Different phases of play? Against Millwall our winner was from a corner, but wouldn't have gone down as corner-assisted by the statisticians because it came in the second phase following a save. A good set-piece taker might get you 5-10 additional goals per season. That seems a small number, but might be huge over the course of a season. 10 goals might be worth 8-12 points. Excelling in all departments is crucial. We shouldn't sell a set-piece taker 'because that's all he does' as their value could prove to be greater than any limitations.

Thomas worked his bollocks off this season, running himself ragged on numerous occasions and you reference one of the very few games that he didn't or couldn't get back and cover. Did you consider that there are 10 other outfield players on the pitch, were they racing back at every opportunity? You pick one game, when he could have been exhausted from the work he's had to do, covering for the inadequacy of his teammates. Personally I think he would be a big loss to Town, he is a hard working, skilled footballer. So what if he has an ego or gets pissed off with the players around him not applying themselves properly, I would call that a positive attribute The fact an experienced proper pro like Tom lees pinned him in a changing room tells you all you need to know about Sorba Thomas’s attitude to be honest. Is that a fact or just a rumour? I mean, I believe it's likely but a lot of stuff can sound plausible but not be true. Also, if it is true, how often do players have a tiff in the dressing room? Is this one of many tiffs that goes on normally?

Up to the last few games of the season he was driving us forward and putting in the most effort. An occasion away at Preston springs to mind when he won the ball back at the edge of our box, burst through 2 challenges, sprinted up the pitch but then over hit a 10 yard pass to Wiles that would have put him one on one with the keeper. He put the effort in but ultimately from open play doesn’t have the quality needed for the championship. The guy who created more chances per game than anyone else in the division - and did so in a shit side - doesn't have the quality needed for the Championship??? Must admit, if I was a fan of a club that had stayed up & I was looking to pick over the bones of the relegated teams, Sorba would be pretty close to the top of my list.

I just don’t get this anti Sorba stuff. Maybe I missed some howlers but every game I watched last season he was on it. Effort commitment and at least trying to do something with the ball than simply giving a bad 4 yard pass every time. He is far from the finished article but the quality of his balls into the box is excellent. What I saw towards the end of a long season and shared was his complete frustration at the lack of effort and commitment of others to get forward and on the end of those free kicks and crosses. Maybe he expressed that frustration in the changing room in a manner which Lees and AB considered to be against team spirit. Maybe he thinks he is a better all round footballer than he is ( he definitely needs to work hard on getting past the last defender) but in a Championship team with a big 9 and a 10 alongside, he will be well worth his place.

Thomas had a fight with near enough everyone, at one point or another . Thtats why we loaned him out, as most of the players can't stand him and his "attiude" . Ever since his Wales call up , his ego/ behaviour is Mr Big. His talent does not back this up however and the players in the main can't stand him. which isn't or doesn't help when trying to build a team mentaility.

Having watched the first half of the Leeds Norwich game and seen Angus Gunns performance coupled with Clem being at Norwich and Jacob Chapmans new contract I have a feeling. Nicholls may be heading to Norfolk

Although with Sheffield Utd releasing Wes Foderingham there's another cracking GK option for Championship clubs. Not sure why they're letting him go, he'll be one of the best keepers in the Championship next season IMO.

They won't be renewing contracts to bring down costs, ripping the heart out of their team in the process.

Take note Town, this is fantastic. Looks like Critchlow has been put up for transfer by Posh. And Maliks mother is still clogging on, she isn't pushing up the daisies yet.

Who's out today? Presser yesterday certainly seemed to line up a couple to be out of the door.

Think it sounds like Ayina, High, Hudlin if anyone wants him I suspect loans as we probably have to subsidise the wages. Possibly squad players like Ruffels, Turton and Harratt but they might be used in Brook St Motors. Hudlin could be useful at Brook St Motors as he can reach to clean all over the cars

Hope we're not planning on playing loads of first teamers in the BSM trophy?
We've already lost about 6 to injuries.

Scott High appears to have joined Halifax on loan, can't seem to find a mention on here of it.

Played in their 0-0 draw at Halifax. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/live/cwyx0q7r7qyt#Line-upsThere was a time during the latter end of Cowleys' & the early days of Carlos's time here when he looked like he might break into the side & have a good run there. Sadly he's not just failed to kick on but actively regressed and I suspect Halifax is about the level I see him at now.

Like several, he looked very promising at the beginning, but seems to have lost his way. Halifax is a good move and gives him the chance to resurrect his career. Good luck Scott.

I mean those two through balls, that he played for Swansea that time were great balls. Another player that Bromby took a shine to, then would not be told otherwise that they were just simply a bit shit. Bromby's students of Schofield (future town keeper, what league would this be Bromby) , Scott "future captain" high again what league ? and REG , he was "promosing" for such a long time that he left last January at the age of 24 and was still classed as youngster lol.
