Well that's the best first press conference I've heard since Wagner. Spoke really well, sounds hungry and like he knows exactly what he's doing. Also realistic. Very encouraging.
Probably the best we've heard from Cartwright also.
Interested to find out who his coaching team will be. I guess they were told bit to ask about that.

I am going down to Port Talbot working next Tuesday so it will be interesting to see what they have to say about Duff, plus i haven't been down prior to us getting stuffed at home by them so it should be interesting.

Can't argue with that - humble, well spoken, honest and clearly excited. Feels pretty much like the prefect fit for where we and where he is right now. Superb stuff. UTFT

Duff also said a few times "we don't need to sell, people are on long contracts so there will be no fire sale."
Seems obvious that we won't be letting players go for tuppence like some on here seem to think we should do.

Listening to that press conference reminded me why I wanted Duff after Moore had been sacked. Duff impressed me with what he said and how he said it whenever I saw Cheltenham on Sky, which actually was quite a few games, and I enjoyed the way they played as well.
I thought MC came across quite well too and seemed more humble than previously.
Hopefully, this time, Town have got the right man in, and I think they have. It’s going to be an interesting summer.

Irony at its best from someone whose favourite post is “let’s wait and see”. Other than to say he’s here, no purpose was served. I’m happy to wait and see what happens with him, the team, and the club. There was no way that he would have said anything of importance. If there, my question would have been How important is this Press Conference? He should then say none, and depart. All questions will be answered in the fullness of time. All I want to see is an improved team, less talk more action in other words. I suppose managers have to appear in front if the press but it's a mistake to make promises that can't be carried out! IE not so Brightner get players in the box score lots of goals etc. Duff has a big job on his hands but I'm sure he'll want to properly assess the squad so he knows what or not they are capable of, and who to get rid of before making silly promises. And to get some of his own style of players in!

Ward, Koroma and others like that who the club might be happy to sell have only a year left too which will help to shift them. Hopefully we still bring in who we want and leave it to the players we want gone to find a club rather than being messed about late in the windoe.

I’m shocked people think Cartwright spoke well, after an absolute shit show of a season, 3 permanent managers, two abysmal transfer windows he actually sat there basically patting himself on the back for the club ‘being in a better place’ than 12 months ago.
I’m sorry but I fear we’ve got an owner who’s prepared to invest in both the club infrastructure and playing squad and we’ve an absolute chancer in charge of it.

Agreed on Cartwright. Jury absolutely still out on him but he can across better as a character - probably humbled somewhat from last season's experience, and realises he needs to prove himself in this role he's been gifted.

So given our club is fucking shite now at putting out anything other than videos or YouTube links when it comes to wanting to hear what anyone has to say, rather than writing an article, can anyone go over the gist of what was said for those of us who couldn't watch/listen live? Luckily I’m on a long train journey so have been able to listen. - the club thinks this is an opportunity to have a re-set - Duff is very Dyche-like in his approach and hard work is the minimum expectation. - promotion is the aim and it is talked about a lot but Duff is very clear that you can’t expect to win the league just because we are a bigger club than most. - Cartwright thinks that behind the scenes we are in a better position than we were 12 months ago. - last summers transfer window was shit. In January the fact we had to bring in 4 players and bring back Spencer shows that there were issues with the squad. Usually we wouldn’t want to throw in players who weren’t match fit but we had to and it caused injuries. - club are expecting to bring in players within a matter of weeks (I suspect players who are going to be out of contract and we may not announce them immediately.) - once initial business is done we will wait to see if any further players leave before we replace them. Valuations have to be met for players to leave. - Duff is reserving judgement on the character of the squad. When things are going badly everyone try’s to deflect blame and it may have been the case that AB was doing this. - Duff made a mistake leaving Barnsley and Swansea wasn’t a good fit. He’s had a break from football and ready to start. - When discussing recruitment at one point Cartwright mentioned bringing in 16 players. No one seemed to notice and ask if that is how many they are targeting. Might have been a throw away comment and not the actual intention. Thanks for that. Not everybody has a spare hour today to listen to the broadcast.

He's a highly professional, focused, realistic, industrious person. Definitely got his head screwed on the right way. Seems to be a great fit for us.
He also wants to prove Swansea wrong, whilst also admiting his mistakes and learning from them, even looking at coaching in other sports.
It's early days, but I a feel that he'll be the best coach / manager we've had since Wagner. BUT, we all need to STFU on the terraces if we lose a game or three, stop panicking, stop the negativity, just support him all the way.

Clearly there's some right arseholes about this evening. Simple question, not exactly unreasonable, and then a couple of arsey responses. Sounds about right for this place in recent times Dry your eyes mate

A humble manager is always a good one. Duff spoke really well. I know pressers aren’t much to go by these days but he damn sure got me excited! Strangely looking forward to the next couple months. The best months as a town fan do tend to be in the summer months… It's the 10 months that follow that usually end up being so disappointing

Came across well. None of this small club business that’s been trotted out over the last few years. Calls town a big club in the league. May not happen for him straight away so as someone else said we do have to be patient.

“I should have stayed at Barnsley” was a key moment for me. It’s not exactly the sort of sound bite the club would have briefed, it’s not the sort of thing a town fan necessarily wants to hear. So you can tell he’s authentically reflecting rather than being a company man going through the motions with what everyone wants to hear.
Doubles down on it later too.

It’s good that he’s in early too.And fresh, not straight off the back of another job. So far the club is giving themselves the best chance of bouncing back, let’s hope that trend continues

I think he is more saying, look i learn from mistakes. That i jumped too early that time, i wont be doing that again if i get sucess here. Which he later goes on to explain, that he wants to be here for a long period of time and build something, something he should have thought about more before his last move. To be fair to Duff, its something Barnsley fans said, you will never hear BS come out of Duff, he says it as it is.

Getting him on a longer contract during the season might be best though as he's the only Town player I'd bet on to go on to play in the premier league (because of his age and international experience).

Well he interviews better than any of the managers we've had for a long time. Whether that equates to being a good manager remains to be seen but it certainly beats having to listen to Fotheringham or Moore.

No mention of an option, think he only has a year unless mentioned elsewhere

I am sure the club have mentioned it in interviews with him, but hey ho maybe not. Probs best to sell him now , give us a million with a good sell on .

Definitely no need for any fire sale, my point was only that he might be the only player who realistically attracts interest where we might be pushed to sell at a lower price than we like. Not out of the question to see him in the Premier League at some point as he is young enough and already does the defensive bit well enough. Hope the club tie him down for another season and convince him 40 odd games for us is better than being part of a championship squad next season.

If he could have said it about any team in Yorkshire, he picked the right one. Always felt like it was a camaraderie rather than a rivalry with Barnsley... except when we're playing them of course (2013 notwithstanding)
