Does anyone know if there’s any chance of us keeping Helik? They’re saying we don’t need to sell, and surely there’d be no better sign of intent than convincing him to stay with us?

I think Helik was one of the ones who left in the fire sale when Duff took over so I’m not sure how much contact, if any, they would have had. I hope he can persuade him to stay though.

Why a fire sale? I would have thought (and hoped) that if we were having a fire sale it would only be for any bad eggs that we may have and I don't think that helik would be seen as one of those.

Just a feeling I have no inside knowledge but i'd say no chance, lets be honest he is way above league 1 level, its a short career and can't see him wanting to waste even a year below his level, he gets into most championship teams, absolute respect to the lad if he does stay but IMO he is off, along with: Sorba....bridges all burnt and a championship side will take a risk for his set piece play Spencer Rudoni Healy Nichols Koroma Also think a few more will feel they are better than league one, Baulker(Sp??) Headley and don't think radulovich(sp??) will fancy it either Doesn't leave us with much, just hope Duff and Bert and Ernie can do a good job convincing a few players the club is not a shitshow as last seasons well publicised failings will make it hard to sell the club and attract players

The 'Fire Sale' talked about was at Barnsley when they were relegated. It was when/how we signed Helik. It has been said that we don't have to sell anyone, for financial reasons, but I suspect some will be sold for other reasons!

Cartwright alluded to their being a pot of money allocated for transfers this summer which hasn't changed, despite relegation. One would optimisticly hope that the funds generated from player sales would also be reinvested in the playing squad.

Perhaps in the January window if he stays fit. His injury record over the last 2-3 seasons is absolutely horrendous, and he's a bad knee injury away from retirement. Looks a great player, but no-one remotely sensible is going to gamble on him at this point. In terms of Helik, no doubt there'll be a few bids for him. We love him, but there's no getting past the fact that he's now been part of two relegated squads in the last three seasons. That won't go unnoticed and potential bidders will absolutely scrutinise his form before paying silly money. I wouldn't be surprised to see him still here at the start of 24-25. Sorba will go to one of the clubs promoted to the Championship, most likely Pompey. His stats, which are all important nowadays, tell their own story. Rudoni; again, clubs will consult the stats men and be told that his actual output is nigh on being negligible in terms of goals and assists versus games played. The first half hauling against Ipswich won't help him secure a transfer away, either.

Danny Ward shares things like that at the school gates? Come on, why on earth would he do that? There’s every chance, as you have just shown, that those comments would turn up on social media. No way he would share anything like that. He would as he doesn't seem to care mate, 7k a week on a 2 year contract. He doesn't need to play jsut be paid. Remember players are human beings, lips slip and when you don't care either way, as you have gaurnteed money and all that. Remember during his interviews this season alone, he has yawned his way through them , which tell you as much. Reckon he is on alot more than that. Highest earner in the club apparently. 2 x that & the rest. Could be wrong. Naughty Warnock.

Nicholls will be gone. Daniel Iversen fits as his replacement. Used to play for Stoke and represented by Bewick Sports. Bingo.

Agree with your post, except nowadays clubs don't really even look at goals and assists as stats they use to sign players, unless they have a very old-fashioned scouting department - they use highly complicated algorithms with things like 'expected goals' and 'expected assists' factored in. I am not an expert on the area, but I would recommend the book 'Football Hackers' - a really good read.

Personally I don't think Helik will go.
I was thinking earlier that in the last 3 seasons he has had 2 relegation to League 1 and a miracle great escape.
His mental strength must be shot.
He also didn't actively seek a move upon relegation with Barnsley.
I'd say that he would be more than happy to actually have a season (hopefully) of more wins than defeats.

No real surprised in that retained list.
Most surprising for me were Bellagambi and Ondo and but neither of them really cemented themselves in the first team
Rhodes, while may have been handy this season, seems to have enjoyed his time at Blackpool. I'd have a guess that his wage wouldn't have been the cheapest too. Yuta has had a frustrating 2 years with injuries, and now a relegation. Given hes a Japanese international, League One isn't where he'd want to be plying his trade Thank god we've got Mahoney off the books. What a waste of signing that was Diarra, another I'm happy to see the back of. Seemed to have talent, but dissappeared out of the squad, and rumours of him being a 'bad egg'. Good bye fella! Can't really comment much on Rowe, he started off well for us and just seemed to tail off.
Also happy to see the back of the loan signings, especially DB for obvious reasons.
Assuming Hogg does sign a new deal, I really hope it's more of the Whitehead mould, than being a primary starter.
