I think people need to get real over this though. The Piece Hall is great, and is really bringing money to Halifax (although some Halifax residents moan like fuck about it). But the capacities of The Piece Hall and the John Smith's are vastly different. As far as I'm aware, about 40,000 people went to the Bryan Adams gig. In contrast, The Piece Hall holds 5,500, so the only gigs that they're realistically going to be able to host here are far beyond what they can host at The Piece Hall. For example, I've seen The Specials and Madness at The Piece Hall. There's no way those bands would sell anywhere near enough tickets to make it viable at The John Smith's. How many of the bands and artists that are playing The Piece Hall this year would realistically fill the John Smith's? The downside is that the capacity is simply too big, so it limits the gigs we can get. Most stadium bands will already play Leeds, Manchester and maybe Liverpool/Sheffield, so that's also another factor. Didn't Blue or McFly or whoever they were play to a crowd of about 2-3000 at the John Smiths? Not sure on the attendance but Blue have played at the stadium. Nagle was talking about wanting to get Elton John to perform their, he already has done in around 2005/06 but don't think that it was particularly well attended. |

They were the band playing when Bataclan was attacked by terrorists No, I started on the heavier stuff late in life, work and children kind of got in the way of my musical development, so I am playing catchup  I am a recent convert to the likes of Decapitated, Ahab, and many others, so all suggestions are very welcome. Get thisen to the Friggin In The Riggin thread, loads of band videos in there from all genres, me and utttrooper Richard1986 shedds monkbar and a few others** post regularly in there. ** sorry if I missed any Friggin regulars out |
