It’s difficult to know who to believe in this scenario. It comes over as we agreed a fee of 750k and before any paperwork was completed Brum offered 775k which Charlton then accepted. Whether Brum really want him or don’t want him to go to a rival we will never know.

Charlton look to be signing two new strikers in Godden and Ahamde.(Think i’ve butchered that second name, the lad from ipswich!!) Maybe this opens the door for May to leave? Ali Al Hamadi??? If he is available I'd rather have him than May TBH. Hell of a signing for this level. EDIT: And also wildly unrealistic. Just realised you meant Gassan Ahadme. In that case I'd rather have May.

If we've lost out as always, then it's due to bloody haggling too long, or in other words pissing about. Seems like as always, Town get beaten, and Charlton themselves are looking as if they'll sign some decent players. Anyone who thinks we'll walk this league, or even be in the mix, could be so, so wrong, though I'd love to be proved wrong on all the above.

So are you saying we should have asked Charlton how much they wanted, they say 1.5M. We say ok the money is in the post!! We pay what we feel is right, but as I said earlier it seems a fee was agreed before Brum came along.

Not in the least, and doubling the price is rather egging it a bit. I'm saying I'm old enough to remember just, the times when we had the like of Law and Wilson, and wouldn't stump up peanuts for minor at the time Scottish players like St John and Yeats. Even so, we still had enough pull to get the next tier down like Dobson, spot and entice players like Leighton from lower league Barnsley and make a fist of things, even if we could have had so much better. Now we're backing off third tier strikers, no guarantee they'll be better, and seem intent on just plodding along. Occasionally we get lucky when a manager doesn't want someone and their potential hasn't been spotted like with Rhodes back in league one days, but it's a rarity. When we do have money we spunk it on shite like in our premier league days. I agree, one can't just meet the asking price, but surely get back in there quicker, and get the deal done, if you really want him. I seriously hope all the Birmingham stuff is just shit, but I wouldn't put even the smallest bet on it.

Birmingham have come in after that, and the implication is that they've been in the wings waiting all along. It wouldn't have mattered if it was the first offer or the fifteenth. They were always going to come in and attempt to gazump us, which is a pretty shitty tactic, but not one you can blame Town for.

I reckon it shows that Birmingham fear is as strong competition, so they will try to scupper our deals.

C'mon lads & lasses, it's not rocket science, Brum & us are shopping in the same shops, probably the only 2 in this division that can pay the money & be an attractive club for that level of merchandise can come to.
It's exactly why we shouldn't be hearing about potential targets until they were done & dusted. Why automatically blame Town when everyone was happy we'd had a bid accepted? Things like this happen all the time in football, remember when Parkinson agreed to manage us then pulled out on the morning of the press conference.
You win some, you lose some, we don't know how this is going to play out but some on here know for certain it's all our club's fault. Get a grip.

I’m actually buoyed by the fact that we’re shopping at the same stalls. And I hope Duffs connections are what get us over the line. 20 goal a season strikers don’t come easily and without competition. Why we need to start flapping and chucking shit at the club at this moment in time in baffling. Some folk need a reality check.

I’ve read his book and I think all it said was that at one point he’d heard Lee Clark was interested in him. As far as I remember we had a good look but were put off by his reputation and the fact he’d already been in trouble with the police.

It was Lee Clark (of all people) that said he had an attitude problem and at the time he did. No taking away from his talent though of course.

I will be disappointed if we lose May for £25k. If we have been pushing this for a while, which it sounds like we have, how do we suddenly get pipped without the chance to increase our offer? Is this just more internet BS?

Imagine what they're like with things that really matter 🤣 I don't understand the assumption that we've haggled and fucked about too much, more likely that Birmingham told Charlton they were keen a good while ago. We've put a bid in and Charlton have just asked Birmingham to beat it or match it. We were never going to be the only club keen on this lad.

Is this just more internet BS? It's more than £25k. If both teams are offering 3year deals, you could be looking at close to a £1 million over that period if they're paying £5k a week more
