Thought we were pretty hopeless in the second-half yesterday and don’t get why so many people on here and in the ground yesterday are giving it the big licks. Say nowt, win it, then shout your mouth off as Mr Clough once said. I’ll take any kind of win and be grateful for it. Bet you're fun at parties. I'm going 6-0 then make a few subs at half time and possibly a more conservative second half.

Who the hell has voted for a loss? Someone with a long memory. The two 5-1 tonkings in the same season home and away?

This is the first time we've been in the same division as Shrewsbury since the promotion season under Warnock, we beat them at home that season 2-1, think Lee Duxbury scored the winner. My memory is they were terribly defensive and time wasting, the norm these days, and Town won it in the last minute.

Someone with a long memory. The two 5-1 tonkings in the same season home and away? I remember losing 0 3 in the FA cup as well. They were higher division than us. They always seemed to be a good cup side back then. Chic Bates is a name that springs to mind

Did you think we were good in second half yesterday?

I’ll be there along with our six-year old grandson for his first ever Town game. Shrewsbury’s centre halves Toto Nsiala and Aaron Pierre need to be targeted. They’re both very slow and Pierre is built like a brick outhouse with the turning circle of a Brontosaurus. He was good a few years ago at Wycombe but he totally flopped with Sutton and AFCW. Just run at the pair of them, they won’t be able to cope. Marshall should start - he’ll score, no doubt in my mind. Just seen the highlights of their game v Peterborough. My god, you are not wrong about Shrewsbury’s central defenders. I’m sure Duff will be making sure we adapt our game accordingly.

They let one in each. 14k crowd (sorry if it pisses some people off to actually quote a proper attendance) which was very good in that era considering there was only a smallish away support. Towns average was 11,000 finishing 4th in the league, best 28901 v Barnsley, worst 6 something v Fulham. Run of the mill matches c 8000.

There is lots to improve on from Saturday and we cannot afford to be complacent. I am confident we will win comfortably but doubt it will be 4 or 5. However, I could get used to winning 1 or 2 nil every week. UTT

Crowd figures were probably made up then as well, only they were understated rather than overstated - lots of cash at the turnstiles to be taxed! Probably the biggest under estimate in my lifetime was the 27,000 they said attended the final game of 69/70 against Watford. There were 35,000 to 40,000 there, I swear down.

May 2004, Mansfield Town, the ground was full, the kick-off was delayed due to the amount of people trying to get in. The crowd? 18,633. I remember the sound of laughter when that figure was announced.

This is the most confident I've felt in a Town win since Peterborough at home in the playoffs in '92.

That was my 1st game & I thought the whole Town was there that night, I was in the same spot for Bolton cup game (74) & on the terrace for Barnsley......All felt same/similar to the 40k+ crowds given in division one.

I don't want to sound too complacent but this is a game we really need to win if we are serious about promotion this season, Stevenage were no push overs and they had a few very good chances in the 2nd half. I am expecting a win against Shrewsbury though, 7-1 would be nice, I have not seen them score 7 since Port Vale at home, many years ago.

I can understand why people will be cautious because of the really poor last few years, however, I honestly feel we've turned a corner. Of course it helps dropping a league (there is still a large gap between the bottom half of the Championship & the bottom half of L1) but the seeds were being sewn in the pre-season games, where, from the very 1st game you could see a new style of play. We clearly have a manager who knows how he wants to play, the recruitment team, so far, have recruited players to fit that system & the confidence has been lifted massively.
I fully expected us to be challenging top 6 this season & I'm even more confident having seen how the season has started. At some stage this season, we will hammer someone, it may be Saturday, it may not but I believe we'll hit someone for 5 or 6 pretty soon.
