Not the greatest of cup competitions but it's a good game to give players vital minutes. If I had a quid for every time Town have hosted Barnsley in the league and then in a cup a few days later, I'd have two quid... which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. Back in 1995/96 we played Barnsley in the League on the Saturday and won 3-1, then on the Tuesday we played them in the League Cup and won 2-1. Think Simon Collins scored an absolute screamer in the league game. (I may be misremembering some or all of this, if so I'm sure one of our resident statisticians will put me right,)

I'd play the team from yesterday as we then have a free week due to Orient been postponed.
Last time against Doncaster it took all momentum away.
Let's not risk that again.
Edit: strongest from those available.

Just looked and we played them at home in the League on Tue 12th Sept and won 3-0. Week later it was second round first leg of league cup and won 2-0. Fortnight later it was second leg at Oakwell and lost 4-0. I went to all three games for some reason. Can’t remember the goals!!!

Does Spencer serve his suspension in this game or next league game? It’s a shame, really, as it would be good to let this back three partnership settle in together.

Put a strong side out, there's no reason to be finishing bottom of this group,it would be embarrassing, and bad for morale

Aren't Spencer, Hodge and Marshall away on international duty? I'd go with Chapman Lonwijk Lees Pearson Headley Hogg Iorpenda Kane Turton Radulovic Ladapo Healey on the bench to get 15/20 mins to build up his fitness.

Next league game - i.e. he's available for Tuesday but not the Bristol Rovers one. Same situation as Ward after he got sent off Vs Rotherham.

I've gone for a Barnsley win, purely on the strength of a vague recollection of reading an article at the start of this season saying they had some really talented youngsters breaking through at the moment.
The side picked for the Doncaster game revealed how seriously we're taking this competition, so I'd say finishing bottom of the group is highly likely.
Personally I'd be playing fringe players (i.e. those currently not starting, but with a decent shout of getting picked in league games this season) as opposed to kids who are miles off - but it's not a hill I'm willing to die on.

I’d agree with playing a strongish 11. At the least, let’s play 3 centre backs at centre back. Ruffles and Turton in a back 3 was awful in this cup previously.

Surprised neither of these two are making the bench, thought they’d have a role to play this year. I know we get less subs in this league and Duffs system might not favour them but I think Turton is one of our better players.

Must admit I expected to see a lot more of Ruffels, Turton and Ayina this season.
I was particularly surprised that Ayina wasn't even on the bench for the Doncaster game. Thought he'd have turned out to be a decent option for us.

I had high hopes for all three French lads TBH. One now playing alongside Isaac Mbenza at Charleroi, one in UAE and the other having had a couple of spells on loan in Scotland.

Think I've worked out where I'd gone wrong, that same season later on we played Leicester and Wolves in the same week, both games I thought we'd struggle in as we were newly promoted and those two were tipped for promotion. We beat Leicester 3-1 and Wolves 2-1. That first season after the Bristol Rovers play-off win was one of my favourites in my younger days, before the Premier League adventure and subsequent shit-show disillusioned me!

He misses the game against Belarus because of it We should be forced to undo our postponement given we don’t have sufficient players away on international duty to call off the game.

Not the greatest of cup competitions but it's a good game to give players vital minutes. I don’t care if it’s The A cup - The B cup - The C cup - The D cup - The Double D cup / The JPT cup / or The BSM cup... I don’t want Town making Tits of themselves in it ! I wanna bloody win it - Because we never have yet... And because Seeing HTAFC at Wembley is on my bucket list ! 😬
