Hi all
Following on from yesterday's announcement I have been in contact about the club about possibly running regular comedy nights at H Town under my Gag N Bone Man Comedy brand. I am meeting with them on Monday to discuss in more detail, so will be getting a nice sneak peek at the place.
For me, the attraction of running comedy there is that I don't currently have a regular Huddersfield venue, and I bloody love Town so it makes sense.
If I do run events there it will probably take one of three formats - all would have a host (MC) and professional opening and middle acts, and then:
1. A high profile well known TV name closing the show (the same format I run at Dewsbury Town Hall, where we have the likes of Clinton Baptiste, Alan Davies and Dylan Moran). These would be quarterly, priced at £20 a ticket, with a limited number priced at £15 for Town ST holders
2. A less well known act closing the show - they will be acts who have TV credits and regularly tour the UK - for example Justin Moorhouse, Nick Helm etc. These would be every other month, priced at £15 a ticket, with a limited number priced at £10 for Town ST holders
3. A line up of experienced pro level comedians you may have never heard of but who will most likely have TV credits and industry awards, for example Mick Ferry, Nina Gilligan, Hayley Ellis etc. These would be every other month, priced at £10 a ticket, with a limited number priced at £8 for Town ST holders
Which, if any, would you be likely to come to?

This would be great.
My personal opinion would be an high profile name quarterly as its easier to attend with less events.. You could possibly do a mix and match of your options though? Lesser known comedians running up to a more known comedian quarterly.
Not to hijack your thread also but I'd love to see "A Night with X player/manager" nights too. Something similar to the heritage project interviews but in there infront of fans would be brilliant.

I think it's a great idea & I hope it goes well, just from living the other side of Bradford, the ones I would attend would be very limited so I haven't voted.

Mix and match and see what does best would be my suggestion.
The last winner of the BBC new comedy award Frankie Monroe is from Huddersfield

Sounds good 👌
Option 1 might be an easier sell for such a large venue, given the LBT sort of locally cover the 2 & 3 approaches with their monthly Comedy Cellar (at £14...indicating your proposed pricing is the ballpark)...not sure on capacity of LBT cellar, maybe 150 or so, so can't really generate the revenues to support those higher profile headliners.

Why limit it to comedy? Make it the next Batley Variety Club (or the next Phoenix Club with that Brian Potter lad from Blackpool).

Can't believe those two are listed that way around. I'd never heard of Clinton til I saw your ad on Fakebook, but I thought Nick Helm was well famous. If you ever got Natalie Cuomo or Matt Rife to appear (unlikely I know) I'd be there like a shot. I've voted the third one, mainly because I like discovering newer acts, but all three choices have their merits.

Conversely, I’ve never heard of Nick Helm and seen Clinton twice. I think I’ve seen Nick Helm mainly in Mock The Week and other comedy panel shows I saw Clinton on the second floor of a Manchester pub, so your original point probably stands! Talked to him afterwards (he is completely unrecognisable outside his character’s wig, clothing etc) - cracking chap.

Wish you the best. Must be postive that they are happy to talk before it’s even open. I don’t want acts that have been around the block over and over again. I didn’t realise you were a comedian but really good luck. You can tell them that if you get the gig I’ll be there!! Once again good luck.

A high profile name would be great but from my experiences of going to comedy gigs held in the Lakes, local ones are just as good.
Presume it is the type of humour you enjoy. I sometimes find unheard comedians funnier than the big names.

I think a nice mix of all options Like most i like discovering new artists whether in comedy, music etc I do though also like names you see on TV especially in intimate venues.

I agree, a name will sell tickets but I went to one at Holmbridge comedy club recently to see three I've never heard of and I was amazed how good all three were! Funnier than many I've seen on telly which surprised me, I guess catching a break for TV work possibly isn't as simple as just being very funny! Good luck with it, sounds a great idea!

Good idea and good luck Graeme. Just to satisfy all of DATM you might need to schedule "An Evening With Jim Davidson". Have seen Simon Brodkin several times in smaller venues. Would go down a treat imo.

Would go down a treat imo. A triumvirate of Jim Davidson, Chubby Brown and a hologram of Bernard Manning. TBF I actually liked Jim Davidson and Chubby Brown, JD because of the charity squaddie events he always used to do and Chubby because we used to go with gran and granddad to watch him at Blackpool - memories like that are valuable once the grandparents have gone. Bernard Manning was funny when he stayed away from racial "jokes".

Good idea. Make sure you don’t let the Club take over control, it’ll be Nick Hancock on every month.

Great idea.
Local up and coming comedians, with a big name closing the night would be great.
You've a captive audience as Town fans will want to attend as it's at H-Town, Could do it monthly I recon
Daniel Kitson is a Huddersfield lad (Barnsley fan I think though)
