Dear all
I have read some of the comments and had a couple of lengthy conversations with Marcus.
Firstly I have arranged to meet with Marcus tomorrow and discuss this in greater detail.
In the meantime I wanted to come on here and defend our case.
Firstly this is in no way a case of a 'corporate' conspiracy. As Marcus will vouch for us, the Club have been looking for a venue for the past 6 months that could hold over 500 to 1000 supporters. We have investigated all avenues including marquees on the pitch etc. However each time we have hit a brick wall with the costs. I remain open that if someone can help us find a venue that can attract the numbers that can help us get the costs down that can make it more affordable then I will gladly and openly listen and if needs be revisit or move the awards ceremony. Again I would hope Marcus can vouch for the desire expressed by the Club to try and achieve this.
We have looked at our costs and sadly based on the numbers it is hard for us to do anything on the price. The team have equally looked at other venues that can hold similar numbers in the hope we can get the costs down. Again on each occasion we have hit a brick wall due to either the venue being too small or in some cases already booked.
As for the Hargreaves award. Then I can only apologise. There is no agenda here. The Club felt that it was doing the right thing by making it the ultimate accolade and continuing the growing relationship that has been established between HTSA and the Club. We felt that by making this award the top award then it kept the tradition going. I am more than happy to take this out of the ceremony if the family or HTSA wish. Equally as I have explained to Marcus this evening I am happy to help with an HTSA ceremony as per previous years - either before the event at the stadium or as explained in an earlier meeting to hold something specific purely for the HTSA. I will naturally discuss this in greater detail with Marcus tomorrow. One suggestion is to hand over the trophy during the last game, in so doing any impact on the evening will be lost, but the supporters at the ground will of course know before the ceremony. Furthermore if that by gaining sponsorship to this award offends then I am happy to stop this
As for the financial aspect, then we have to generate revenue for the club. As we all know there has been considerable investment into the club and we have to aim for financial stability. So we as an off the field team have a duty to look at all avenues. Again I felt I was acting in the interest of the Club (in association with HTSA) on this one. This financial impact is all the more greater with the continuing recession.
Finally, as I would hope that anyone who has any dealing with myself will realise that what I am trying to do is for the benefit of the club taking into consideration our supporters. Naturally along the way there are to be some disagreements, but at the end of it, I want us to become a stronger organisation and one that all of us can be proud of.
Sean

thanks for coming on and giving a good response Sean, i feel the club have made couple of big mistakes IE the trophy and not consulting the family involved but can understand what about the revenue streams etc etc
i think a HTSA in conjunction with DATM awards would be the way to go for the ordinary fans who travel the length and breath of the country and thats just for home games!

I feel strongly re going down the Datm route for some sort of awards as afterall we are the root and branch supporters that have our fingers well and trully on the pulse of the club that means so so much to us.... lets get something sorted. I really believe that Datm is one of the most informed and relevant fans forums in the whole of football !!!

Agree - feel as if we have upset the family - certainly not intended to do this. In fact we wanted the opposite. We want it to be THE award for years to come and in doing this ceremony I had hoped that this would go some way to securing that.
As for HTSA/DATM awards- happy to discuss with Mids tomorrow

Agreed, thanks for coming on Sean and quelling peoples tempers a little before it escalated into a full blown lynch mob. Hopefully something can be worked out. Surely no one minds if the club wants to do a corporate awards do and generate some revenue as long as the common fan isnt forgotten as we're the ones who are the lifeblood of the club. Personally I'd be happy with a tenner in, chilli/pie and peas, as many datm'ers as possible, a few awards and a belting night all round!

Mr J, you are a credit to this club! And i mean that with all sincerity. Not half an hour ago i posted saying I am sure if you realised the extent of the feeling, then you would do something about it. I didn't expect you to do something about it so soon!
Seems like the idea of a DATM/HTSA awards is gathering pace. I'd like to think that these awards would be especially appreciated by the recipients, considering they would come from 110% dedicated fans.

That way it doesn't matter how many people turn up we can just tell everyone there was 12'500 in attendance!

I'm married to a senior employee at Briar Court Hotel and could try to negotiate a room for cheap... and i hope SMJ may be able to lean on them too, as i know he has contacts with the owners ;-)

Just had a look at the Cedar Court hotel(Ainley Top). They have a room that takes 400 and for the night you are looking at £675. I dunno how suitable this would be but its not an arm and a leg when you share the cost between a few hundred supporters is it?

I have had a meeting with the c and B manager and could possibly get you the room for free.
Alternatively as mentioned I am sure I can have a chat with Briar Court

So impressed with the response here, Sean, thank you for taking the time at such a late hour to explain your side of this. I'm sure we can all get something sorted here. I love the idea of a cheaper DATM pie-n-mash type affair - would certainly make it more do-able for myself and the old man, belvoirterrier, to come and join in with Keep up the good work, Sean - this is just a blip in my opinion. Yourself and Dean have given us all something to be proud of and look forward to in the future at this club so don't worry

Cheers Sean, much appreciated. Maybe i'm being silly but surely the award was presented last year, and I don't recall such a fuss being made. Is there really any reason for change?

Naturally along the way there are to be some disagreements, but at the end of it, I want us to become a stronger organisation and one that all of us can be proud of. Sean As I posted on the other topic... It's an emotional topic and I'm sure all sides could have said and done some things differently. Hopefully some of the 'glitches' can be ironed out and a successful Awards Event can be run. There is also now the scope to see if something can be done for the 'ordinary fan' who feels they cannot afford £57.50 to attend the Awards Event. We all want the club to be successful and to make money and be viable. It's sometimes a rocky path but it needs everyone to stick with it and support in whatever way each individul can. HTFC has come a long way under Dean and Sean, and I'm sure it will continue to do improve further....hopefully in tandem with HTSA and all Town supporters. I have played my part (along with Dean & Sean) in helping the partnership between the club and its' fans, through HTSA, to prosper over the past months and I can confirm that there has been a lot of dialogue on this particular subject. If the desired event had been held on the pitch, at an affordable price for all, then that would have been ideal. Unfortunately that wasn't to be. Hopefully tomorrow, in the cold light of day, our meeting will result in many positives....and both the 'corporate' and 'ordinary' fan can be catered for in one form or another. If only Huddersfield had a venue big enough to cater for 1000 people....or if Huddersfield's weather could be relied upon to be fine on a Saturday evening in April

Good point
The awards represent an opportunity for the Club to generate income. We had hoped that we could get big numbers in so that the cost per head was around the £20 - £25 mark, but sadly just can't do that.
As discussed in meetings with HTSA we want to run a ceremony that can attract revenue to the club. Our roads have led us to the stadium for circa 350 people. But as always I am happy to help with a HTSA/DATM event with proceeds going to the supporters. I do think there is room for both. From our perspective due to all the planning we need to crack on and get things in place. Including sponsorships etc

I dont think theres any need for any proceeds to be made from a datm/htsa do. Costs should cover a room/a bit of food/ some awards and a dj. Keep the entry prices as low as possible so as many can attend as possible. If any profit is made it can either go to the club or behind the bar ;D
