Between pages 1 and 9, am I to assume that Huddersfield is to become one great-big-fucking-Wimpy? This thread is a metaphor for town planning in Kirklees. Calm down. By the time Kirklees sorts it's shit out Wimpy will have reopened and closed again! Plenty time to discuss all manner of topics!

Wonder if the bogs are still under the square across from NatWest? I often wonder that or whether they just poured a load of concrete in and sealed it up.

Wonder if the bogs are still under the square across from NatWest? Saw some workmen digging there a few weeks back and wondered if they’d plunge to a urine soaked death,

It’s now part of a secret underground transport network that will be used in the event of civil disobedience / war. The main access point is by the train station down these stairs that nobody notices...

Wonder if the bogs are still under the square across from NatWest? I was wondering the same thing the other week. We used to go to that bog turned bar in halifax, think it was called WC's (surprise, surprise). It was very popular in its day, and the beer didn't tasre of piss..

How do the council expect the town centre plans to have traction when this shite scheme is taking investment away from it. Wouldn't it be better to let the football club buy the ground and its environs and make a sporting/entertainment facility with fan parks etc and have these shops and chain restaurants in town which they say they are committed to upgrading.

That would mean Huddersfield had two Wimpy bars at once, the one on Cloth Hall street has been there over 50 years to my knowledge. I remember calling in to the New Inn pub on that corner in 1966 when the world cup was on. The pub opposite on Cross Church street, the Sun Inn later became The Minstrel. PS. This is not to say you're wrong Ar just I don't remember it. There was definitely a Wimpy opposite Kingsgate (where Burger King) used to be. I remember going as a kid. At one time, we did have two Wimpys. I believe the one up Cloth Hall Street was a franchise and the one opposite where Kingsgate now is was not. Not long after McDonalds opened in town, Burger King took over the building opposite Kingsgate. We were quite late getting a McDonalds compared to other places. I remember Wakefield having one years before Huddersfield. Yes definitely had 2 wimpys in the mid to late 80's, the cloth Hall street one with the plates and cutlery and the fast food trays and wrappers at the one that became Burger King and is now apparently a Sports shop! And NT must have photoshopped those steps surely

More surprised that they're building a 140 bedroom Hotel for a town that seems to sell itself short to the wider business community. Not to mention that if they are aiming for the business traveller (which is arguably the bread & butter for a Hotel co. in a town like ours), then they would have been much better building it on the site of the old Sports C, but no doubt the land is more expensive etc. Given the location, I'd be very surprised if this comes off.

A lot of negative comments on here and all over social media from people of Huddersfield - who from what I see only ever post negative comments on any sort of business/development news. It's almost as if people want the place to remain exactly as it is and get left even further behind.
It's a huge international hotel brand coming to build a massive hotel in our town which barely has any hotels. It's getting built near a stadium on a plot of land that is basically a dump full of mud currently. This can only be a positive and hopefully might kick start some further traction with other developers thinking of investing in the Town.
One view might be that Huddersfield is between Bradford, Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield so it can't compete for business with those cities. Why not reverse that outlook and think of Huddersfield as the perfect place for business for the massive number of people that live in those cities within easy commutable distance?
Just needs the right level of investment which hopefully looks to have started with this and the plans recently announced by the council who finally look to have woken up.

I’m proud of our Town. Current facilities are terrible and any new development should be applauded.
