Jesus, how many times is Wimpy mentioned on this thread? I’m starting to think the problem isn’t the council but, simply, people. You need to stop reminiscing and get with the times. Who wants a bloody Wimpy. If you want a real burger go to Pax. If you want chips go to the local chippy. We need nice eating places, not crappy 80’s throwbacks. Oh s**t I've just quoted you and upped the Wimpy count.

I've just been out into Shrewsbury. The place is absolutely thriving. Lovely town, lots of decent shops, bars, restaurants, architecture. It even has a Wimpy! I openly laughed as I walked past. It looks brand new. I know Shrewsbury doesn't have the competition that Huddersfield does, but as Kevin Costner once said 'if you build it, he will come'. 'He', in this case, being 'they'! Didn’t James Earl Jones say that? And the main baseball player was ray liotta? Correction; as Kevin Coster once heard

If you never had the WIMPY. Round sausage you won’t understand Sorry to disappoint you Nick but round sausages are the norm, it's called a Cumberland sausage, they're not exclusive to Wimpy.

I'm not sure you can compare Oxford, York or Shrewsbury with Huddersfield in all honesty, different demographic, different places, they're not industrial working class places. You’re absolutely right, although i think seeing and living in these places has turned the needle to the right on my ‘what I like and find normal’ barometer.

Wimpy has been on Cloth Hall street as long as I can remember. 1966? Before Burger King it was Burns Tavern, prior to that I think it was the New Inn. PS. As Wimpy only closed a few months ago I hardly think the arrival of Macdonald's was the cause.

If you never had the WIMPY. Round sausage you won’t understand Agreed. You can’t beat the Wimpy. In this age of everything changing it’s great to have some constants in life. Wimpy and Merrie England - always been there and it’s brilliant.

Incorrect, Cumberland sausages aren’t round, they are spiral. Benders in a bun are an actual circle. If you’ve not had a bender in your bun you wouldn’t understand, Nick is right.

That would mean Huddersfield had two Wimpy bars at once, the one on Cloth Hall street has been there over 50 years to my knowledge. I remember calling in to the New Inn pub on that corner in 1966 when the world cup was on. The pub opposite on Cross Church street, the Sun Inn later became The Minstrel. PS. This is not to say you're wrong Ar just I don't remember it.

Which is circular in shape!! I’ll concede a Cumberland sausage could be considered vaguely circular, but it’s definitely not a circle or ring like a Wimpey bender is.

At one time, we did have two Wimpys. I believe the one up Cloth Hall Street was a franchise and the one opposite where Kingsgate now is was not. Not long after McDonalds opened in town, Burger King took over the building opposite Kingsgate. We were quite late getting a McDonalds compared to other places. I remember Wakefield having one years before Huddersfield.

From what relatives me told it was shoe shop before that which I have a vague recollection of going there. I am assuming it was a pub before the shoe shop ?

Between pages 1 and 9, am I to assume that Huddersfield is to become one great-big-fucking-Wimpy?
This thread is a metaphor for town planning in Kirklees.

Trail all the way to Lindley to pay an arm and a leg for a poncey burger. No ta They’re not the best anyway, them modern tasteless pâtés. Im sure they’re cut with saw dust...similar to a big tasty from mcdonalds. I only really eat in Huddersfield when I’m working, I’d recommend jerk house on Manchester road cracking food.

Does anyone know what's happening with the driving range ? I walked to the stadium yesterday, what was the golf equipment shop was all closed up and there looked to a pile of scrap materials piled up outside. The Chamber of Commerce office was also closed with shutters down etc.
Personally I always thought that land could be put to better use than as a driving range. I do recall reading that there were plans to build a hotel in that area, but later saw revised plans where that had been moved ?

Has work started on HD1 yet? Don't be daft it took 10 years to get Kingsgate of the ground. Anyway the burning question is, are you a wimp or a mac?
