Its so sad as its come as a massive shock to everyone. When someone who is troubled in public such as Amy Winehouse dies its really sad but is "lessened" slightly as most would have been expecting it considering her past. NO ONE other than Gary Speed by the sounds of it knew of his inner demons and I was absolutely stunned and saddened when I heard the news earlier. So so sorry for his wife and 2 little kids. I hope the media leave them be to try to recover whats left of their lives.
RIP Gary Speed - Football Legend

Absolutely numb, what a tragedy. He was a true role model. One of my hero's growing up. Great player, great man. Cant get my head around it. The football world has lost a truly great guy. RIP Gary Speed. Thoughts are with his family and friends. Tragic news. x

Endorse all earlier commments.................but what a particularly disturbing way to take your own life, hanged in your own home. Exceptionally difficult for his family to handle that............

Only just got in and shocked by the news.
One of the best headers of a ball I've seen in my years of addiction to the game.

Hard to grasp that after appearing to be in pretty good form yesterday lunchtime.
Quite surprised at how sad this makes me feel - he seemed to be a gilded individual with everything to live for...
Condolences to his family

He paid his respects but then stupidly passed on some hearsay which was jumped on and exacerbated by the mob. He has apologised & explained himself. Give the kid a break.

Incredibly Sad News....
Poor wife and kids...... from the outside, perfect family, very popular ex football, never really wound anyone up, never really made any enemies, very passionate Welshman who was then managing his nations team and recently, doing a pretty good job in turning them around and starting to get results.
I cant imagine what would drive a man to this. Such a waste of a life with so much more to give.
RIP Gary Speed
Was gob smacked when say it on Facebook early, had to check the proper news as I just couldn't believe such a story was true

Can't remember a time when I have ever been as affected at the passing of a sportsperson. Possibly Bobby Reason but due to his illness it was expected. Got me deep in thought now about depression and that you never know who has it. This will probably serve as catalyst to me to ensure all loved ones are looked after and that I will make the effort to be there when needed. Gutted
