Banner would be a nice touch at short notice ......we are doing our own fans tribute at the away game with Forest tomorrow night.....On the 11th Minute of the game we are singing Gary Speed's name for 11 minutes solid, a small token gesture but the best we could think of with the suddeness of all this....still numb this morning.

That will be a very fitting tribute, marsh. Good effort by all involved. It still feels totally unreal.

Am still numb with the news of this. A truly honest professional who made the most of what he had. To Marshleeds, thank you for the words about this board. Sometimes in life rivalry pales in to insignificance against the bigger picture. If the fans do produce a banner tonight I will be the proudest football fan on the planet. A Town fan AND a football fan.
RIP Gary, a true legend.

If someone can organise getting a banner made on such short notice and can PM me I would be more than happy to contribute towards the cost.

i still cannot believe it, gary speed was one of the best professionals to ever play sport never mind football. he was a true role model to everyone, never moaned, never cheated and more importantly was a very nice man who had no enemies, he had the world at his feet, yes football and rivalrys are a big thing, but if we cant all unite and show appreciation for a man who has tragically left us all after giving so much to the game then we never will.
R.I.P Gary speed
cant believe we will never see him again :/

This was the first thing I saw when logged onto facebook and waiting for my suitcase at manchester airport last night - I thought someone was joking until my boyfriend checked other websites.
RIP Gary, a young age too.
Nice to see that the players will be wearing black armbands tonight.

Is there only me that thinks suicide, especially when you have two young kids, is a very selfish thing to do. Yes things must have been bad but for him to do that and leave two lads a life without their dad is a bit shit. Easy to say when you've never suffered from depression and can think on a rational basis. Please don't make insensitive comments at a time like this. RIP Gary

Yes things must have been bad but for him to do that and leave two lads a life without their dad is a bit shit. I would say the opposite, really. To commit suicide, as it appears Speed did, and leave behind two kids and a wife, as well as everything else, must surely indicate how desperately ill he was? It's an irrational action, and not one I would ever expect anyone takes liglhtly. I suggest that we continue to show our respects, rather than cast aspersions. I for one thoguht he was a complete midfielder, and a good ambassador for the game. It says a lot that I cannot ever remember thinking ill of him, despite him making his name at Leeds. I wish him peace, and I hope his family can take some small measure of comfort from the overwhelmingly kind and respectful comments being made all over the web about him. RIP Speedo

No better time to be discussing it surely.
Speed's death is a tragedy and respects are being paid accordingly but lets not forget that the real victims here are his wife, kids, family & friends.

Experience "The Thud" Stan Collymore discusses in the piece copied earlier in this thread then you'd realise how inappropriate your comments are. The victims INCLUDE Gary. RIP Gary

There is right & wrong no matter how ill you may find yourself.

Nobody knows the depths of his despair so how can anyone pass judgment? They are all vicitms and sadly nobody was able to intervene and help which is a tragedy. Hopefully this whole epidsode will help other people who are suffering in similar situations.

Unless you, i, or anyone has lived in someone elses shoes, who are we to judge - that is what's not right! Depression is an illness.

Have you ever suffered from Depression Thrice?? Depression is an illness of the mind. It causes you to cease to rationally think and makes you go to a place most people only see in their nightmares. It's like telling someone who is paralysed to get up and walk. It's impossible because the brain is unable to get the information to its recipient. Depression is the same, the chemical imbalance crosses wires and your body and mind start to shut down. I have suffered this before in my early 20's. It's not something id wish on my worst enemy.

Yep - i agree Hilly, you'd assume that the ones who make the rash comments about mental illness / depression are the ones who have never been affected by it.

Thrice. You really haven't a clue. I have come across depression a few times, and I know someone who has been affected by depression far worse than I can even imagine. Yes you are right the family are victims and as I said in a previous post my thoughts are with them, they are the ones who get hurt so badly. However the person suffering with addiction is also a victim and you cannot ever say they have been selfish without knowing their reasons. It is an illness and he is a victim of the illness, it has cost him a long and happy life with his family. For all we know it may have been the last thing he wanted to do but to him the alternatives may have been greater.
It's an illness and its sad that he didn't receive any help but it sounds like noone was aware not even his family.
Please thrice (and anyone else) think about it and maybe have a read up on illnesses before commenting with your ill-informed and sheltered opinions.

Too many people confuse Depression with fed up... It's a dark lonely place, made worse by the fact you feel soft because you can't get yourself out of it (or pull yourself together as is often said) and as Hilly says I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

I think it's a bit too early to be discussing the ins & outs of depression re this tragic happening - nobody as yet knows the reason he took his life.

I appreciate that depression is a disease and makes folk do the inexplicable but that does not make such actions acceptable in my opinion. If you lot want to accept or condone it then so be it but don’t expect me to agree with you. His death is a tragedy for those most close to him who will live with the pain of his death for much longer than you & I will care to remember it.
