People have to move with the times brispie and be mindful of what is going on in the world. Teachers always think they are better than everyone else though so I'm not surprised they want better pensions. That's where we might differ brispie. I think it should be exactly the same for us 'down the pub' as it is for the PM. Isn't that what most of us moan about? One rule for one, another for another? Wouldn't you wait for the outcome of the investigations before ditching your mate brispie? I'm sure they will pick up jobs. Will be some teaching ones coming free soon. There's a difference between wanting a bigger pension and wanting to keep your existing pension though

@botzarelli
At the risk of appearing sycophantic, I was not aware of your blog and have bookmarked it and passed it on.
I am not sure if I would have courage to comment as my viewpoint from a legal perspective is limited to a textbook knowledge of Gary Slapper and A level Criminal Law, Sociology and British Govt and Politics (teacher known left wing activist, so hardly impartial education)... however, I like reading blogs from an informed (albeit personal in bits) perspective.
Cheers

Glad you enjoyed it. There are quite a few interesting lawyerish blogs around that are accessible to non-specialist readers - I recommend David Allen Green's Jack of Kent blog and Charon QC.

I know we're now on the verge of a constitional upheaval, but I don't know what everybody's getting so worked up about. It's only like a speed bump.

constitional? Not even a speed bump - more like chippings.

No I'm not. I'm trying to tell you the rules have changed.
Shame you're not there on Saturday. We could do some work on your analogies

Too early to say.
Much like the aftermath of the banking crisis, basic fundamentals and behaviour will always stay in place.

Too early to say. Much like the aftermath of the banking crisis, basic fundamentals and behaviour will always stay in place. It's happened already. I listened to the select committee interview of three policemen yesterday about the phone hacing inquiry and leaving aside the fact that it was chaired by Keith vaz, it was all remarkable from the exuses given by the coppers for why they ignored sacks of evidence before laying it all on two people to the open mockery their answers were given. Andy Hayman, who was unbelievably in charge of counter-terrorism and the initial investigation is clearly as bent as a nine bob note and can't act either.

Much like the excuses given by bankers, politicians that were fiddling expenses etc
Bankers still seemed to be wedged up and they have been in front of the committees.
Handful of politians convicted.
It's just noise. Lets see how many go to prison in 2 years when all of this will be finished.

Well that's the first thing that's changed. BskyB isn't going to be owned by newscorp. And the way that Newscorp and its shares are going it may no longer exist very soon. This could be the end of Murdoch if not internationally then certainly in this country.

You reckon?
I reckon the NOTW brand will get sold to a Russian Oligarch and after everyone's been decontaminated by the Leveson Inquiry (and a few hacks and execs, possibly not just from NI get sent down) NI will have a clear ride at BSkyB.
In the meantime, it still has 39% which gives it pretty much de facto control anyway and the falling share price allows a bargain buy-back for Rupert. Fast forward a couple of years and think of the end of Trading Places when the real crop report is published but with the Dukes winning.

Elt
I still think it remains to be seen.
The average man on the street won't notice other than he won't be reading NOTW on a Sunday.
I'm sure he'll still be down the pub or at home with his feet up watching Sky Sports.
Just seems like media hysteria to stick the knife in on a rival at the moment.

It doesn't remain to be seen because it's already happened. All that remains to be seen is how this will alter the way this country functions because it has transformed the links between police, the head of state, media, the government and those members of the public that give a fuck.
You're right about the proles though. But it's irrelevant what the proles think because there's no hope in them.
As for that bit of rubbish you spout about the media? A newspaper is hacking the phones of dead children, dead soldiers the royal family, the prime minister and however many thousand other people, paying corrupt police officers in a way that compromises national security and lying to the police that end up investigating them. But it's just a bit of fuss kicked up by rivals? Chinny.

A newspaper was hacking....
'All that remains to be seen is how this will alter the way this country functions because it has transformed the links between police, the head of state, media, the government and those members of the public that give a fuck.'
That what I'm saying you fucking idiot.
To be fair, politicians are sticking it in as well. Bit of point scoring, retribution maybe.

So were you saying it before or after you told us all none of it mattered and it was all just about NI's rivals having a dig?
Are you leaving your computer on and somebody else is using it?

I personally don't think it will make much a difference - certainly not to the likes of me. That is why I don't think it matters.
I personally don't care if it changes the landscape between politicians, media and the police. Clearly, you do, and you may well be right but like we both say...it remains to be seen. I fundamentally don't think patterns of behaviour will change.
Personally, I think the average man will get pissed off with the expense of the whole hacking enquiry given the financial mess Labour have put us in.
Would an analogy help?

Which merk is asking this? The one who believes this will change us at a constitutional level so will affect everybody's lives or the one who thinks so long as the price of Dairylea Dippers for the bairns doesn't go up and Babestation is still on air, we won't care?

You tell me how my life will change as a result of this constitutional change.
If I agree, I'll admit that I'm likely to be wrong. When it actually happens, then I'll admit I'm wrong.

This worse than Jeremy Fucking Kyle. Any moment now Elt is going to switch from faux-outrage and misrepresentation to leaning a bit too close to Merk and telling him he's a beautiful young girl who deserves a better life.
