It's a reserve league. So players of any age can play in the matches. However, town play mainly their U19's

Lost 3-2 in the end, ah well. Obiero and Elliott (who's been scoring a fair bit lately) scored for town. Ex town youth Cedwyn Scott scored twice for them

Poor result to be fair. The lads would have been looking and wanting to win that.
Strange team selection also. Looks like Diarra was at Right Back, Luke Daley at Centre Back and Jaheim Hedley on the wing.

Whilst I am a fan of the new structure of the Academy and what they are trying to achieve, I do feel that the one thing it not doing is building a winning mentality and creating winners.
I don't think they've quite got the balance right between developing individuals ready for the first team and developing winners and footballers with the winning mentality.

Will take time, but its vital to bring at least 1 or 2 through soon if we cant afford to bring much ready made quality in. Really tough for the young lads to come into a struggling team also.....ideally if we can get safe over easter or just after then an opportunity to blood one or two? Assuming there are a couple knocking on the door of course!

JoBurgon might take some solace from the fact that Southampton's academy has been notably poor at producing winning youth teams, but has, he will know, an exemplary record in producing top-notch individal players who have graced their first team and, alas, ultimately those of other clubs.

Guess at 17s and 19s is it more about player development hence why you see players moved around positions to learn game awareness etc and there’s less emphasis on results. The B team however do seem to be doing quite well and I’d guess that more results based as players will be wanting to push to feature at first team level so a winner mentality is more important.

I know what you're saying & I agree with moving players around to get experience in different positions etc. but I just think winning a tournament, any tournament, is great for development, bonding etc. so if you get so close to a final, I think we'd be better off going to win it. When we lost the semi final last week, didn't we have Diarra playing full back or something?

When we lost the semi final last week, didn't we have Diarra playing full back or something? Thing is, the idea of the tournaments and cups is to win them. That's the idea. However, because so many of the matches are seen as development matches and the results not really important, I'm not sure we're building enough of the wining mentality into enough of the kids. As for playing Diarra at right back and Luke Daley at Centre Back, as well as Austerfield and Camarra in a midfield 3 for the northern final, god knows what Worthington was thinking......

Today's B team line-up. Maybe we're trying to covert Aarons into a left back now?

Probably just trying to get some minutes into his legs before being in the matchday squad on Saturday
I recon he'll be subbed off at some point between 30mins - half time

He looked decent in one pre season game I watched. Hopefully he'll be one that can push on next season. Particularly, I suppose, if we're in League One.

He has all the attributes both on and off the pitch to make it to the very very top. If there was one kid I had to put my house on making it, it would be him. I know he's only 17, but I'll go as far as to say the lad will play at Championship / Premier League level and probably international as well. It'll be really interesting to see what they do with him next season. Out on loan or stay at the club playing B team games and training with the first team every day.....for me he'd massively benefit from a loan spell, playing against experienced professionals in games that really matter.

Kit Elliott with the hat-trick for the B team. He's been scoring a lot lately I've noticed. I wonder if he could jump above Phillips in the pecking order?

He's doing well is Kit at the moment. There's some good competition in the Academy amongst the strikers.
Phillips Elliot Obiero Harratt
Then Connor Falls in the U17s.
If 2 or 3 of them could come through and establish themselves in the first team over the next 4-5 years that'd be pretty good. Goalscorers are the hardest to find and the most expensive to buy. If we can produce a few ourselves that would be a massive bonus
Looks like it's been a really good performance following it on Twitter
