So their recruitment group, on the instruction of the BBC, just choose to spend the vast majority of their recruitment advertising in the left wing media then? If you target your audience, you are selectively trying to recruit people from that particular audience. In this case a devout left wing media source. Have a look down this list and see if you can find one obvious publication which stands out with a vastly higher spend... I'll make it easier, by highlighting the ONLY one where spending is in 5 figure sums, in fact it's almost into 6 figures. www.asiansinmedia.org £3,300.00 www.bapla.org.uk £100.00 www.bluelinecareer.co.uk £150.00 www.careerbuilder.co.uk £239.00 www.creativematch.co.uk £299.00 www.designweek.co.uk £1,485.00 www.executive-i.com £50.00 www.guardian.co.uk £94,360.00 www.holdthefrontpage.co.uk £2,250.00 www.internalcommsjobs.co.uk £1,300.00 www.jobs-cymraeg.co.uk £50.00 www.jobswales.co.uk £3,000.00 www.nijobs.com £1,725.00 www.nmajobs.co.uk £850.00 www.parttimejobsnet.co.uk £500.00 www.prweekjobs.co.uk £5,250.00 www.research-live.com £2,950.00 www.safleswyddi.co.uk £175.00 www.secsinthecity.co.uk £6,625.00 www.supplychainonline.co.uk £2,350.00 www.thebci.org £50.00 www.theitjobboard.com £1,100.00 www.usabilitynews.co.uk £665.00 Y Cymro £784.80 Yorkshire Evening Post (Leeds) £3,900.00 Or maybe that's because it's by far the most circulated publication out of the options you've laid down? These aren't options laid down, this is the complete list of the BBC's online recruitment advertising from a 2009 FOI request.(obviously the last 2 should not be in the paste as they're not online, but that's kind of irrelevant). I used this part of the figures as the BBC has seriously stepped down it's newspaper advertising in favour of online recruitment ads as from 2009. If you want to check, here is the FOI request. downloads.bbc.co.uk/foi/classes/disclosure_logs/rfi20110092_spend_on_recruitment_advertising.pdfThere is no denying that the BBC are deliberately targeting their recruitment at a left wing audience. Nearly all media is biased one way or the other, I just don't like the idea that a nationally funded organisation is so far slanted to the left.

I agree with your comment except the bold bit. Theres been some pretty lame and tenuous excuses on DATM lately for not renewing your season card, but some perceived support of a local politician has to be the lamest. I vote tory, but if the club were aligned with labour, the idea Id stop supporting the club as a result is frankly laughable. Laugh away, Captain! As you rightly say, there have been some 'lame and tenuous excuses' for not renewing season cards and, if folk won't do it simply because they might have to move seats for a couple of games a year, then I'm quite sure that if their football club, whoever that may be, were to align themselves to a political party directly opposed to their own core beliefs ( which I do NOT believe is happening in this instance!), then you would find SOME supporters who would be less inclined to dance to that football club's tune when asked to do so. This might not be your view but, as we know, not everyone always shares your views. Anyway, as you and I both know, this isn't happening, is it? This is just a cheap gimmick by a politician wanting votes. Just to be clear- Im not laughing at your opinion that some people might not renew for this reason ( you're probably right sadly) - Im laughing at those people who'd be so lame as to do that!

He is photoed at the town ground in his hudds town tracksuit with the caption " town legend " This is the guy who they modelled the mascot for for all the kids.. If he was speaking as Andy booth, honley resident , then fine.. Why shouldn't he have an opinion ? But it's not is it ? It's a football club getting involved in politics... It's so wrong it's off the Richter scale of wrongness I've no truck with any of the fu***** so as I say it's not the fact that it's a Tory he's backing.. It's the principle

Whoever you vote for, the government always gets in.
I couldn't care less who Boothy or Dean vote for though but have enjoyed the thread so far.
I think it's already been explained to you that the reason the BBC advertise in The Guardian heavily is because it is the ONLY broadsheet with a dedicated media jobs section. It is where everyone who wants jobs in the media turns no matter what their political persuasion. Many of these people only buy the Guardian on Monday for the section. It used to be the case that every job advertised in The Guardian was also advertised in The Telegraph. Until The Telegraph disbanded it's media job section. Would it surprise you to find out that one of the other major advertisers with The Guardian is (drum roll) - The Sun (and many other papers do too and Sky and ITV). The BBC advertise jobs where people who are looking for those jobs are most likely to look. Any other strategy would be a waste of license payers' money and we wouldn't want the Daily Mail screaming about that would we?

Nothing to do with it being the paper of choice at the BBC then? Nope. Just like The Times is not necessarily the paper of choice for teachers but it is where they all look for jobs in the TES

It's the principle There's the rub... he can say what he likes as Andy Booth, but, as HTFC Club Ambassador he HAS to remain impartial for the sake of ALL its fans of WHATEVER political persuasion. Again, I think its just the politician being naughty and choosing to use a photo of Andy at the ground wearing a club because he KNOWS what effect it might have. Have a photo taken in your own back garden with him and use his quote, by all means. If I were the club I would be having a word with the politician.
So just because things were done decades ago means we should forget? A bad and a good example below of why we shouldn't forget the origins of things... The Nazis. The NHS. For clarity - I do listen & I do make my own mind up & I agree there are many that don't. I just try and work out what will have the best net effect across the short & longer terms and that will impact my kids future as well as mine, plus the more positive benefit to society in general. I don't see any long term benefit in moving towards a society where everything has to be paid for to privatised industries & shareholders. Where things have a lack of regulatory control that would see regular price hikes for consumers. All set against the fact we have nothing to make money from, other than the financial & services industries that try to make money and drive growth by what often are nothing more than gigantic confidence tricks... Labour are not perfect but they do tend to have more ethical folk amongst them than the Tories...
Neither party is ethical and you did not mention anything specific Thatcher did that was so terrible successive Labor governments reversed. My point is not about either party but the blinkered attitude of many voters. Blaming Thatcher for today's woes is like me blaming James Callaghan or someone else that was in office before I was old enough to vote or maybe before I was born. The reason politicians get away with being so useless is because there are so many safe seats They don't have to perform to get re-elected because so many voters pay no attention to what is going on, or are so loyal to a party they look the other way. If you keep voting in the same representatives you should not expect a different outcome. It's the same here in the USA. There are people in Congress who have been there for 20 years and never sponsored legislation or did anything useful, like Corinne Brown. They get re-elected regardless because they are in a safe district. Districts are only safe because voters vote the same party regardless.

Oh dear you've had a shocker Marcus I knew I should never have mentioned Peter Sissons, damn! The BBC should be constantly questioned on bias, from left and right (and they are, though more vociferously from the right) - its the way we know that it is under constant scrutiny. Will they eradicate bias? Virtually impossible - but they can keep things more or less balanced. The fear is going down the road America has taken once Reagan repealed their impartiality laws and something Murdoch in particular would absolutely love to see happen here. Apart from Downton Abbey (which I've never even glimpsed), the Americans I talk to when over there rarely use their domestic media for news (other than a couple of comedy shows, believe it or not) and turn to the BBC and Al-Jazeera for what they perceive to be factual, balanced reporting. Even PBS is not seen as particularly trustworthy any more. Fox, CNN and MSNBC are hopelessly partisan while the other traditional stations are insipid and mainly interested in celebrity.

boothy used to play for town and dean hoyle owns town.. neither represent me, I represent myself. I support htfc on the football pitch and I don't care which political party the owner or an ex player wish to be seen with or what it means by way of their personal political leanings, if it actually does.. We all support charities and contribute as much as we can to certain ones, we have no idea of the political leanings of the directors or trustees, is that worse or better? some would suggest they must all be tories, they clearly wont be..
dean hoyle runs the business that is htfc, he has the right if he chooses to affirm his political choices and broadcast them as he wishes(if that's what he has done) , boothy is the same he has the right of silence over how he votes or to tell all and sundry...(again if that is what he has done)..
there will be loads of businessmen and famous people getting their names and photos in the media supporting one or other of the political parties before may.. whats the difference?
please don't tell me its because we are supporters etc etc, we are paying customers like any other business and their staff and customers will see who their bosses/owners support..
clearly dean isn't profiteering at town to give money to the filthy rich tory elite..or to bolster the coffers of the politics of greed..

Hull City owner Allem has poured money into the club as well as a lot to Labour.
Which would you prefer- - - him or Dean? Labour or Conservatives?
I make that four permutations.

I don't prefer either. also I believe that people either vote of they don't and as the bollox beforehand does not alter my opinions, I don't think it alters too many others. I am not one of those that believes I am too clever and wise to be influenced, but others will be?

"Andy Booth is a blue, is a blue, Andy Booth is a blue, he hates reds and greens and yellows and other inconsequential others that nobody hears from other than the 12 months ahead of an election local or national..." I'm not sure the last bit scans all that well, but it could be a new terrace hit...

When Labour were last in power, the personal tax free allowance was around, 6.5k. Now it's 10.6k, but of course you have to work to gain from that. So I do vote Tory, because apart from that they are, as many have said all the bloody same. It's nothing whatever to do with being posh, snobby or whatever. My Dad still living in Hudds at Waterloo, was a Bus Driver and voted Tory. Not because he was a right wing racist or whatever, just couldn't stand giving the money he earned in Taxes to folk who simply didn't deserve it. Politics of envy, as he always used to say, wanting to share all our money out so nicely, except of course they don't. Of course once upon a time, there was a decent chance of working your way to the top 10% earners, now there's no chance for just about anybody. Still Dean managed it. As a side note, whilst retired, I've done the papers for the local shop for over 6 years now. That is "paperboy" and I pay tax on it. NEVER in that time, in over £200 every year in Christmas tips has one penny come from the posh socialists who read The Guardian. I deliver 4 of them, about the same as the Times and Telegraph who have a 50% tip success rate. In other words, again to quote my Dad, Do as I say, not as I do, at least as far as rich socialists are concerned. ( They don't live in hovels) Working class folk, can and do think for themselves, and voting Labour simply because you're working class is stupid. I expect I'm gonna get shot down by a few on this one, but hey ho, like all good Yorkshire folk, I'll listen to what tha says, then do what I was gonna do anyway.
