Think I'd go with the same team but swap VLP in for Kachunga, his ability to get past players will be vital if Newcastle just stick 10 men behind the ball.
Can't wait for this one, should have the anticipation and atmosphere of a play-off game but with not nearly as much riding on it.

We need Ince in his preferred position on the right and VLP providing on the left today. VLP's assists in the preseason shows he's in form. DW doesn't usually start the same 11 so I can see this being the change or Williams in for Billing, or both.

The build up to this game seems to have gone on forever, I'm already worn out with the excitement of it all although I'm half expecting a very cagey game tbh. Newcastle will sit deep and try and sting us on the break , as many have said, so it's vital we get a first goal (or four)...Since we last met Town have improved the team with the new players but I'm not sure Newcastle are that much better than our previous meeting...Gayle is the obvious danger for us. Hope our fans are up for this , from all 4 sides because Newcastle will have a big and noisy backing.

Fantastic opportunity to make it two wins from two. Shelley out, haven't massively strengthened from last year, manager obviously pissed off. JSS will be pumping. Got to take advantage!

Sorry but Kachunga is just about my first name down on the team sheet I think maybe VLP and Kachunga to start with Ince on the bench ready to come on when either start to tire. Kachungas defensive work is vital, we'll need him against Ritchie imo. I wouldn't be surprised to see Williams start for Billing. Sent from my SM-G920F using proboards

Have your boys to win 2-0 as somebody has said you couldn't have hand picked a better home game to start with especially minus Shelvey.

Really excited for this one, hope we stuff them.
With Shelvey out I think Palmer will run riot behind Mounie.
Let's go Town!!

I don't see it myself He's left sided, the other two aren't. He's been superb pre season and was great last season, his ability to drive us up the pitch can't be matched and he gets up and down very well. Can't wait to see how his end product looks when he has a Mounie or Depoitre to aim at. I could see Ince playing the number ten but he always seems more at home on the right. As a displaced Town fan some 3500 miles from where I deeply wish to be at 13.30 BST this afternoon.
I just ask that Town, including coaching staff, players and most importantly fans give it your all this afternoon.
I would normally ask that you do us proud too but my Town pride-o-meter has been at capacity for quite some time and shows no sign of dipping even slightly.

Interesting to see that some of their fans are predicting a Town win. Hope their players have the same mindset.

Could be a bit of a battle - really hope we get an early goal so Toon have to come out a bit more and we can expoit the spaces. Williams in for Billing possible?

We often struggled a lot against teams last year that sat back and couldn't break them down despite domination of possession. However, now we have the big man to aim for in the box we are much more of a threat for even if they sit back. I'm sure Benitez is aware of this as he's no mug and a very good tactician.
If we perform, I can't see anything other than 3 points with a few of their key players out. But football is a funny ol' game. Come on town, 6 from a possible 6 would be top drawer. UTT.

Yes, could be a cagey one, especially if Benitez goes for a high backline and Newcastle stifle us in the middle rather than use a "Catenaccio" and play the waiting game. We'll see of course, but as a game for the neutral, global audience, it'll undoubtedly be better if we can get ourselves into a two-goal lead, and then see what Newcastle can do about it Don't know about Newcastle being noisy with it being an early kick-off, think we should be much noisier with the extra few hours of kip. UTT

Both of our central midfielders have a long range shot in 'em too, assuming Billing plays. Another challenge to them sitting back.

The thing that excites me today , apart from it being our first home prem game obviously, is that we have the chance to establish a six point gap to some of our rivals .. which will be some start if we can pull it off .. much more difficult to cut back a defecit at the bottom than it is at the top

That said, I think we're miles apart from where they were.
