Lossl made another top top save I wasn't a Danny Ward knocker but Lossl exudes a confidence i never felt with Danny. Very impressed with our keeper. A different league to Ward, quite literally. Even with the exact same chances against us in the last two games, I suspect we'd have conceded 2-3, instead of 0, if Ward was in goal. Zanka had a dodgy ten mins at the end of the first half.

Beginning to wonder if we have yet to see our best forward line of attack How would a Mounie/Depoitre strike force work ,and surely wont be long before it is tried and tested by Wagner The team seem to be spoilt for choice for players at the moment as nobody in our squad looks out of place in the Premier league Dream times made possible by top quality signings We don't play two up front

Anyone know anything about the lack of Depoitre? Would love to see him make an appearance

Assumed Depoitre must have picked up a knock, very odd to have Lolley instead of him on the bench.
Schindler with an absolute masterclass, he'd walk in to Arsenal or Liverpool defence.
Great save from Lössl.
Some brilliant tackles from Löwe.
A different performance to vs Palace, but good to see we can grind results out too. If we keep up this 3 point per game average, I think we will have a good chance of staying up.

For me you were too negative & looked a better side later on when you tried to push on. It's getting desperate already mate. Said most of it already on the prediction thread - downatthemac.proboards.com/post/2202214 but amazing how much a bit of optimism can dwindle in just a couple of months. Ashley comes out and does that unnecessary Sky interview about not being able to compete with the Man City's. No Newcastle in their right minds think we can and should be able to do this. The top 6 are well gone and with Everton's new investors, they will be in the same bracket soon, but I'd like to think we could at least try and compete with a lot of the others. It's plain to see we are crying out for a top striker. 5 teams who finished in the bottom half last season have managed to do it - Palace £28, Leicester £25, West Ham £16-20m, Watford £18m, Burnley £15m, yet here we are spending £5m on Stoke's leftovers to go with the other modest signings. I know those 5 received the TV money last season so we are a bit behind them, but we have spent a net of £25m this summer which is the lowest of the 3 promoted clubs, and I see Town have spent over £40m and without wanting to sound arrogant or disrespectful, I'd have expected to have at least matched that and fair play for you and Brighton for going for it more and showing a bit of ambition, rather than us who are gambling on having a squad just about good enough to finish 16th, 17th and praying that there are 3 or 4 other clubs worse than us. I thought at the start of the season we could maybe finish 15th or 16th and that we could possibly finish above 3 of Burnley, Swansea, Brighton and Town, but even at this early stage, being 6 points behind you isn't ideal and will already take a lot of catching up. If you look back to last season, we exchanged wins in our games, and while we ended up pulling clear and our GD was obviously superior, there wasn't too much difference between the sides - you have since bought 10 players, of which 5 will come straight in and improve your XI, we've brought in 1, or 2 at a push who will improve us. Such a contrast to a few months ago when £70m+ kitty was being branded about by the likes of Sky and links with Fernandinho etc, when in reality we have ended up with the likes of Manquillo, Atsu and Joselu. We had the chance to push on with a manager 99% of fans love and are delighted with, but he'll be gone by Xmas and we'll be back to square one and with the likes of Villa, Wolves, Boro etc in the league below, if we do drop again, minus Rafa, we will likely be there for years and years. Anyway, enough of my rants. Congrats on the win today and that's a cracking start, 6 points from 2 games and 2 clean sheets ; if you weren't a direct rival I'd be loving it

All our success stems from our organisation and how well drilled every player is in our system. After all our success you'd have us throw that out the window and take a punt on 2 up front? Why? Trust Wagner, he's done well for us so far!

Being a Town fan now is as good as I have ever known it BUT today was evidence for me just how hard it will be in this league. Playing against a Newcastle team who have barely improved since we last played them in March, we lacked creativity for the mist part and had two spells where we really invited Newcastle onto us - other sides will punish us in those spells. It was two fairly poor sides from what I saw. It made me think - I know Wagner likes to do his transfer business early but we need another midfielder in there who is top drawer and cover at right back - could we make a crazy bid for Cairney at Fulham or is he out of our price range?

As much as I like Danny Ward and he will always be a hero but Lössl looks the real deal from these two games. Reminds me of Neuer. His distribution is phenomenal.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but I thought the number 23 for Newcastle was very impressive. Broke up play well, had a great touch and a nice pass on him. Think he's on loan from Dortmund, one for Wagner to keep an eye on

I agree that was not a great performance but the good teams that survive pick up points when they are off their best. Newcastle aren't miles off. They were the best team last year and gave spurs a hard time until shelvy impolded. Shelvy and Mooy have been regarded as similar functionally for town and the toon. But hes not in the same league. (watch his interview on Sky workout where the brains are!)
A good start for us was crucial, we have bought 8/9 new faces in it will take time. The fixtures computer was very kind. None of the big boys until 6 or 7 games in and 2 months to grow mesh. Thus avoiding a deflating humiliation.
We have a better owner, a better manager for the circumstances, a better squad (not individuals but the group), we are more attractive club due to the owner/manager and we have a little momentum.
OH and 6 very valuable points.
PS
I will be happy with 1 next week.

It was very strange today for me. Could not make the game and watched it in an English bar in Krakow. It was clear i was the only person watching who was supporting Town. I wanted to shout to the assembled "thats my seat", "thats my team" and "i know that guy" when the camera panned on Frankie, Andy Booth and Peter Jackson. Anyway, all is well that ends well...i was jigging around like a drunken Irishman at a wake.

Its a great feeling to be joint top and have the world watching. Lossl..what a save. Similar to Palace. Loewe...probably his best game for Town. I am worried though about Tommy Smith and Kachunga...wondering if they are good enough for this level.

Hopefully we continue to get away with them

Was he not the player Souness slated for not getting stuck in on Mooy and turning his back He was. However, I think that's a bit more of a sign of disorganisation and unfamiliarity with the team and system. That's the main thing that DW does brilliantly. Everyone knows his role in a well defined system and DW has bought to improve the system. Think Rafa just buys random quite good players depending on how much he has to spend and tries to shoehorn them in to whatever method he chooses for n the day.

Brilliant goal by Mooy. Shout out for the defence though - Zanka not as composed but Lowe/Smith excellent while Schindler was colossal. Lossl looks to be a top keeper as well. Thought Smith was poor again today and made a stupid lunge which would have been a straight red if he had connected. Needs to regain his composure. Agree. A really wild challenge which would have seen him sent off if he'd connected. Hope Wagner gave him a roasting for it. Let's hope Smith gets back to his old self ASAP, and/or we get hold of an alternative quality right back. This looks our vulnerable spot at the moment.

A championship game in appearance today, some sloppy play but I think Newcastle played a lot more aggressive than other teams will in this league and we got drawn into it.
The ref I thought was good for the most part in the first half he let play go on and didn't reach for the card too easily, but he over reffereed the match and produced pointless cards throughout the second half, missed diving and general rough play.
Schindler was absolutely class.
Lowe was impeccable
Smith had a great game
Zanka defensively was good but he played some poor long ball passes in the first half and gave away the ball cheaply a few times
All midfield was quality.
Ince - looks quality and very capable, I expected him to be the star player but he is surrounded by great players, he's a small fish in this team and he did a great job of pressing and pushing up, however many times he took one touch too many and lost an opportunity, I suspect this is a confidence thing. If he gets his head on it then he had at least two good opportunitys today. Will be interesting to see how he deals with not being the star player.
Mounie - quality, won most battles, kept both defenders busy, got his head to most things, looks a very good player, put himself about
Moot - what can I say. That performance had it all. I would even go so far to say that was one of the most complete performances I've ever seen of a town player. He won most challenges, passed well (82% pass success), directed and controlled the game, THAT GOAL, he wanted the ball constantly, he chased and harried all game, he was everywhere, he was defending then attacking, he slid in as last man and blocked chances more than once.
My only issue was that a few of the players didn't chase or close down as much as I expected, one or two were guilty of watching mooy doing a lot of the hard work.
Mooy = Magician.

Great display by the Cowshed Loyal at the start of the game - a 'tip of the hat' to their efforts and planning and hoping to see many more over the season.
And as usual, sang, led and drove the stadium singing all game.

I thought we played pretty well today but there were times where Newcastle looked threatening which you have to expect at this level.
I thought we defended well, just wish we had managed to get another goal when we were on top.
Referee started well and faded. I think it was Gayle that threw himself down in the penalty area, ref told him "No way" (I could lip read that bit) but he did not book him. It was clear "simulation" which I would call cheating so he should have been booked. Also think he gave two soft cards, one on Mounie and one on the Newcastle defender marking him.
Obviously delighted with the result. Dream start so far, hope we can get at least a point next week and keep working towards our initial goal.
